25.01.2022 Gisborne Festival Thank you to the Gisborne and the surrounding community for supporting our major community event, the Bendigo Bank Lions Gisborne Festival. It was great to see a large crowd of people attend the parade, the market and food stalls, the free activities for children and the carnival rides. They were also entertained with the music from two bands, the magnificent performance by the Bendigo Chinese Lions and the fireworks display.... A big thank you must go to the Gisborne and District Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank who was our naming rights sponsor, and the 10 gold sponsors and 24 silver sponsors who made this event possible. As you would appreciate, events such as this take significant planning-obtaining the 35 sponsors, the 30 entrants in the parade, necessary permits, the company responsible for closing the roads, the carnival ride amusements company, the 70 stall holders, the 10 free activities for children, the 2 bands, the fireworks company and the major attractions such as the monster truck and monster ball. Finally, a big thank you goes to my fellow Lions Club Members and Friends of Lions who helped delivery the Gisborne Festival, including the Lions Club Committee members who were responsible for planning the event and engaging all the participants. Russell A Walker OAM President Gisborne & District Lions Club

18.01.2022 LIONS GISBORNE FESTIVAL CANCELLED The Gisborne and District Lions Club which is responsible for organising and delivering the Lions Gisborne Festival has, after considering a range of scenarios, made the agonising decision to cancel this significant community event which was scheduled to be conducted on Friday 11 December 2020. Due to the range of restrictions currently imposed by the Government as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, only a limited number of the community woul...d have been able to attend a very restricted event on the oval at Gardiner Reserve. As the Lions Club’s mission for this important event is to produce an annual festival that bring the community together to have a fun-filled evening in an inclusive and safe environment, the Club felt that it would have been unfair to our community to hold an event which only enabled limited numbers to attend. The Lions Club is very appreciative of those that annually support this significant community event, including the large range of businesses as sponsors, participants in the parade, market and food stall holders, performers and those engaged to provide a range of activities for the event. The Lions Club looks forward to their support for the December 2021 Festival, hopefully after the end of the current health and economic crisis that is confronting our community.
