25.01.2022 Who’s guilty of googling their health problems .... As tempting as it may be to rely on Dr Google when you have a dental question or problem, there is nothing more informative and reassuring then getting the answers from your dentist. The dentists at @gisbornefamilydental take their time to carefully diagnose your problem and discuss with you the management options. We love making our patients feel empowered about their oral health and ready to make the best decisions for themselves . . . . Follow the link in our bio to book online if you or a family member requires a dental appointment

24.01.2022 We can’t believe THREE years ago we opened our doors for the very first time. We cannot thank the Gisborne community enough for welcoming us with open arms and entrusting is with their oral health . Thank you to all our staff members for believing in our vision, working hard every day and for being a pleasure to be around . Have a great week everyone!!!

22.01.2022 How gorgeous is Jaxon’s smile! We adore seeing Jaxon every 6 months and he loves to remind Dr Emma how important it is to have clean teeth and also how we shouldn’t have sweets before bed to avoid getting holes . Did you know decay in baby teeth spread faster than adult teeth? That is one of the reasons it is important for children (and adults) to see their dentist every 6 months - so we can pick up on any issues early to avoid bigger problems happening down the track. Thanks Jaxon and your wonderful mother for letting us feature you today - we had so much fun catching up with you both . . . . If you have a child who is due for their dental check up, do call us or book online using the link in our bio

22.01.2022 Dentists have a sweet tooth as well but this recipe that Dr Emma tried out is refined sugar free and DELICIOUS! See recipe below! Because there are still natural sugars in it, we have to be mindful to have a glass of tap water when treating ourselves and keep up our oral hygiene regime so our teeth stay happy and healthy . If you have a go making these bliss balls, please do send us a photo! Sending love to all our patients and remember to book online for examination, fi...llings and emergency dental care! . . . Chocolate Brownie Bliss Balls 1 cup walnuts 1 cup almond meal 1/4 cup cacao or cocoa powder 12 pitted dates 1 tbsp honey A pinch of salt Blend all ingredients together in a food processor until it becomes a sticky crumb. Then press into ball shapes (makes about 16). Place in the fridge to set! See more

20.01.2022 Here’s an idea from Dr Rachel for those looking for a fun, creative activity to do with their kids: . . Easy cooked play dough recipe ... I love making my own play dough because I like knowing there are absolutely no nasties should some of it end up in someone’s mouth, or on sensitive skin. It’s also really fun (for both adults and kids!) to mix and choose our own colours. Play dough is a fantastic tool for sensory and imaginative play, and great for developing fine motor skills. I usually use @BakePlaySmile’s recipe (thermomix version) but here is the conventional method: 110g salt 250g water 1tbs cream of tartar 250g plain flour 1tbs oil Food colouring Mix flour, water, cream of tartar and salt in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened. Once cooled, place the dough onto a floured surface, add oil and knead well. Divide the dough into equal portions and add food colouring. Knead until dough colour is uniform. Store in ziplock bags in the fridge for up to three months. . . . Follow @gisbornefamilydental and be sure to book online if you or a family member requires a dental appointment

10.01.2022 To our wonderful patients - in line with rising community transmission of Covid-19 and the Australian Dental Association’s recommendations, we will be returning to Level 2 restrictions on Friday 7th August. This means, for the time being, we will not be able to perform procedures that produce a lot of aerosols to reduce risk to staff and patients. This includes heavier cleans and surgical extractions. We are still here for your dental examinations, relief of pain and fillings... for most decayed or broken teeth (with extra precautions taken to minimise risk of aerosols). Rest assured, we will continue to go above and beyond with infection control and risk reduction measures. If you have an existing appointment that needs to be rescheduled due to level 2 restrictions, a team member will be in contact with you soon. You are most welcome to call us or message us on social media if you have any questions! Take care everyone See more

03.01.2022 What was your answer (comment below before you read further!) . . . . .... ANSWER: True and False Just when you thought dentists had said no to almost every type of beverage on the planet, here they go making you question drinking water now! Read on to understand why . . . Plain tap water is fantastic for our teeth! However, carbonated water such as sparkling water or soda water is actually acidic (from all those bubbles) and it can cause a condition called dental erosion. When you add lemon juice to water, it also makes the drink acidic. So what is dental erosion? Erosion is the permanent loss of tooth structure due to chemical breakdown by acids. Once erosion starts, our teeth become shorter, more sensitive, weaker and more prone to decay. Sometimes we have to treat the condition with fillings and potentially more complex treatment like Root Canal Treatment or extracting the tooth in severe cases. Since prevention is key, we encourage everyone to stick to plain tap water! It is also important to see your dentist every 6 months so we can pick up the earliest signs of erosion and help you avoid irreversible, costly damage. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to message us or book yourself in for an examination.
