13.01.2022 Hi everyone. We are passing on this information sent to us from the council on the wasp issue at Dixon Field. Good Morning All, Following on from your concerns regarding the wasp issue at Dixon Field and surrounds, Council will be undertaking the following actions in an attempt to try and address some of the issues:... Appointment of a pest controller to undertake an inspection of Jacksons Creek from Gardiner Reserve through to the western end of Dixon Field (both sides of the creek) to identify and remove any active nests. This inspection will be undertaken during January and March as recommended by the pest controller. An initial inspection was undertaken late last week however no nests were identified. Engaging a contractor to remove the willows from the Dixon Field wetland in January/February 2020. We have been informed that the wasps use willows for both a food source and nests. Engaging contractors when new nests become active and locatable during the warmer months We are hopeful that the above actions may assist in reducing the numbers of wasps in the area, but we are not able to guarantee that they will address all of the issues. If, during your use of the reserve you are able to identify actual or potential nest sites, please let us know and we will arrange for the pest controller to get rid of the nest. We would also like to request that the clubs are vigilant in regards to cans of drink and food scraps that may be left around the pavilion as these types of rubbish do attract wasps. We will endeavour to keep you all updated with progress on this matter. Kind Regards, Hannah Basetti Acting Recreation Development Officer Macedon Ranges Shire Council
