25.01.2022 Today marks one year since Ash Barty became world number one for the first-time. Congratulations, Ash! #Tennis

25.01.2022 OK - we didnt actually have snow at tennis this morning but with a "feels like" temp below zero, it certainly felt cold. We had a few die-hard regulars turn up for social tennis decked out in beanies and gloves so it just goes to show how keen the Tuesday Crew are. Still lots of fun so if you are free on Tuesday mornings, call in and have a go - you will be very welcome.

24.01.2022 See below for tournament arrangements. Canteen will be operating. Looking forward to a great weekend of tennis.

23.01.2022 Just a quick reminder that subs are due now for the 2020/21 year. Tennis has been a bit interrupted this year but coaching and social tennis has started back with hopefully a return to comps in the spring. Joining the club includes insurance with Tennis Australia, and entitles you to discounted playing rates for comps/court hire and the opportunity to play in the club championships. More information on membership at the club website: http://gleninnestennis.com.au/membership/

21.01.2022 Coach profile today is on Greg O'Meara from Glen Innes Tennis Club. Greg has taken on the Glen Innes Tennis Club and is striving to grow junior tennis program a...nd assist the Glen Innes Tennis Club in increasing their overall participation. Glen Innes Tennis club has recently resurfaced some of their tennis courts and is currently undergoing a replacement of all fencing for the facility. With Greg's help Glen Innes Tennis Club will once again be a major player the tennis club in the North West. - Favourite player - Past and Present; Male: Roger Federer and Bjorn Borg Female: Petra Kvitova and Steffi Graf - Favourite tennis stroke: one handed topspin backhand - 2020 goals once tennis is back up and running: To build up junior player numbers in Glen Innes and continue to instill a love for tennis in all junior players so that they make the very healthy life choice to become life long tennis players. - Most memorable tennis moment: Too many to mention, tennis has provided me with many wonderful moments over a 60 year period of involvement in our sport. Friendships forged over that time have enriched my life significantly. - What you love about north west tennis: Being fairly new to the area I have limited experience with North West Tennis. I love the climate in Glen Innes which allows year round tennis without the excessive perspiration during summer in more humid climates. Something we didn’t know about you: I worked as a primary school teacher for 37 years. - Additional comments: Learning tennis is a long journey, it’s a complicated game. It’s important to not get too carried away with results and stay the journey. A life long love of playing tennis is very beneficial for both your mental and physical well being. 15.01.2022 GIDTA regret to advise that Greg O’Meara has resigned as our club coach. We would like to acknowledge the valuable input Greg has had with the building up of our junior players over the past three years. The club are hoping to offer the hot shots program for our younger players as well as coaching for our developing junior players in term 4.

15.01.2022 This is great news for all of our members and non members. However, the courts will remain closed until the club has complied with the guidelines and recommendations set out by Tennis NSW. We are all looking forward to see you all again very soon. We will post updates on our Facebook page and website

14.01.2022 Great morning of doubles tennis for the Far Northern championship today. All players have enjoyed some great tennis this weekend. If you missed entering this year definitely mark it in your calendar for next year.

14.01.2022 TENNIS COACHING CANCELLED TODAY. Miserable conditions today with a freezing cold wind. Feels like a katabatic Antarctic wind out there. Stay warm everyone. Regards Greg

13.01.2022 Unfortunately tennis is cancelled today due to the wet weather. The courts have had little sunshine to dry out and with a 25kmh wind predicted it’s probably sensible not to expose children to these conditions. Also the wet weather destroys the tennis balls. Hopefully we have better luck next week. Regards Greg and Karen.

13.01.2022 TENNIS COACHING TO RESTART ON 1ST JUNE With Covid 19 restrictions in place there will be strict procedures to follow for everybody’s safety. 1. No player is to attend if they are unwell, including having the flu or a cough. 2. The clubhouse will be off limits, except for toilet emergencies. 3. All players must use sanitiser on entering courts and when leaving. Coaches will provide the sanitiser.... 4. Players will not be allowed to touch the balls and ball collection tubes will be marked and designated to each student to only use that tube. That means no serving practice will be allowed for the moment. 5. Students will not be allowed to touch any surfaces inside the court area eg net post winders, gates. 6. Students will have to maintain correct social distancing at all times. 7. The gates will be left open so students don’t have to touch them on entry and departure from the courts. 8. Drink bottles cannot be shared. 9. Students are only to be at the courts for lessons, please limit socialising before or after lessons. 10. Most students have current Active Kids vouchers and those that don’t will need to have the correct money which will be deposited into a court side container and not given to either of the coaches. 11. Only 4 students will be allowed per court and they will need to stay in their designated quarter. ATTENTION: NEW FENCE UPDATE The new fence will be installed in the next few months and the courts will be closed for approximately 6 weeks. With that in mind and with the limited number of students currently allowed in lessons, I will be giving preferential treatment to long term, regular students who have good attendance records. This is a trial opening for coaching. If we find that students have difficulty following the safety guidelines we will cancel coaching until conditions return closer to normal. Saturday coaching will revert to 11-1pm during the winter months. Any enquiries please ring Greg on 0431286200 Regards Greg O’Meara and Karen Correy See more

09.01.2022 No tennis this week. Fencing has been completed but electricians are still working on power to the lights. So no social tennis on Tuesday or night comps through the week. Will post here and on the website when things are back to normal (hopefully next week).

08.01.2022 The cool and misty conditions didnt discourage our Tuesday regulars for the first day back after the Covid19 lockdown. Everyone was super keen and happy just to be back on court for social tennis. There are a few hygiene guidelines we have to follow but none of it is too complicated so if you are free on Tuesday mornings (9-12) and would like to have a hit, please come on down and join in.

06.01.2022 Work is progressing at a rapid pace on the new fencing at the tennis courts and it looks great.

06.01.2022 CLUB UPDATE....Thank you for your patience during this pandemic, our top priority has always been the health and safety of all of players and spectators. Tennis in Glen Innes will start back up from the 9th JUNE. At this stage we will just start with our Tuesday morning social tennis. We may open up another social tennis day in the next couple of weeks, we just want to trial with the Tuesdays social first. Our Saturday winter comp will be put on hold, as in the near future th...e new fencing will be installed, which means that the club will be closed again during installation. We ask that all players follow safe hygiene practices while in the tennis club facility, but the basic guidelines are: 1. If you are showing any cold or flu symptoms or not feeling well, you will not be permitted to enter the facility, please do not be offended if we ask you to leave 2. Players are only permitted on the courts and asked for them to wash their hands before, during and after play 3. The clubhouse will be closed during play, only opened for toilet breaks 4. The kitchen will be closed 6. Because of the closed kitchen, players are asked to bring their own water bottles, and not to be shared 6. Spectators are welcome, but must remain in their cars or obey the 1.5 metre rule. We ask that spectators stay outside the fence and not to enter the facility For more information about the regulations head to our website. 05.01.2022 A MESSAGE FROM YOUR COACHES. A big thank you to all those taking tennis lessons for observing Covid 19 safety protocols. We appreciate everybody’s willing cooperation during these difficult times. It’s not too onerous a duty to follow the safety protocols to do the best we can to minimise health risks for everyone concerned. Fortunately, tennis being an outside sport with in built social distancing due to court positioning is a relatively safe sport during this pandemic. Howe...ver, the tennis ball is still an unknown factor and I haven’t found any definitive proof one way or the other so I will be continuing with the no touching balls rule for the moment. I’d rather be over cautious than relax safety protocols and become complacent about the possible spread of this dangerous virus. Regards Greg O’Meara ph 0431286200 Karen Correy P.S Love this junior girl’s backhand volley. See more
