22.01.2022 Today, we released our latest Cost of Living update which shows that some households are likely to be better off during the Covid-19 crisis, and calls for peopl...e who have not been financially hit to donate to support their local SA charities. Those who lost jobs or working hours have been hit hard, but some households are likely to be better off. This includes those working extra hours, or households that are maintaining their incomes but have lower costs of living including less money spent on petrol and activities outside the home. Charities continue to help those hit hardest while also struggling with the impact of coronavirus. Many have lost the ability to continue their usual methods of fundraising. Others are finding their usual supporters are less able to provide financial support, due to issues with work and income. If your household has newly freed-up income to spare, think about sharing it with those who most need our help. Vital services in the community need your assistance more than ever, to continuing helping the most impacted members of our community. 21.01.2022 Mothers Day Kindness. This what it looks like when Big W staff patiently process dozens of gift cards for distribution to Domestic Violence shelters for the Mothers' Day Appeal. 21.01.2022 CareWorks has been made aware that a number of refugees who are in community detention are to be transferred into the community on Final Departure Bridging Visas. Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) In South Australia there will be 20 families (74 people) released with three weeks notice. The visa allows them to work but they get no assistance from the government other than access to Medicare. Clearly this will be a traumatic and stressful time for these people. Support for housing, food and employment opportunities will be of paramount importance. Go to givenow to make a donation and CareWorks will make sure it gets to where it is most needed. 16.01.2022 Each year for Mothers Day, CareWorks offers gifts of love to women who are escaping Domestic Violence situations and are living in shelters. We are offering this support again this year, but with a difference. Because of the infection controls across the community, CareWorks will not physically deliver donated goods. Instead we are calling for cash donations to purchase gift cards which will be delivered to mums who could really do with a bit of extra love. 14.01.2022 Do you have some fabrics that could be used by our sewing group? Our fabulous sewing group for refugee women makes clothing, quilts and soft furnishings. They can always use more fabric, and right now the supplies are very low. If you can help, let us know at the CareWorks office and we will work out how to get them to the group.
