22.01.2022 Rio and Missy going extremely well under saddle. Rio had her first short ride whilst out and has taken on the basics like a breeze. From here she'll work on refining her ques and lots of desensitisation to things that she might come across when her owner rides her out on the trail. Missy continues to prove herself as an ultimate all-rounder and a pleasure to ride.... And a Thanks to our wonderful little Drover who has to put up with helping train these youngsters when taken out on the trail

21.01.2022 How quickly time has gone by since our last post. Been a crazy busy 3 weeks. Will have to slowly introduce all the new arrivals. In the mean time here's the three boys that stayed with us over the past few weeks. All here to be brought back into work after having time off. All now back home with their owners and going well.

21.01.2022 Quiz, here with us to be trained to saddle. This big boy had his first ride today. Keeping it short and sweet to make it a nice experience. Did a small amount of flexing and let him walk freely doing a couple of circles. Before asking him to stand and relax. Once he's relaxed, immediately dismount and release his girth to take all pressure of off him. This let's him know he's done well

20.01.2022 More work happening here today. Digging out the dam, levelling the arena in and putting in a swimmer for the horses to exercise in

18.01.2022 What a great weekend at the Easter Ride at Stirling's Crossing. It was a pleasure to sponsor Best Managed Horse on the 320km marathon ride. It started with 8 riders. Congratulations to the 4 riders that completed the course Emzy Dimech and Leigh Rich and juniors Georgie and Elli also to Renee Kelso whom choose not to elevate and completed 240km. Dr Harry Wever said "they all managed their horses correctly to the conditions and finished with fitter horses". A big congratulations from us at GJ Horsemanship goes to Emzy Dimech & Yarramine Regal! Easter at Stirling’s 320km Marathon Winners and getting Best Managed Horse.

18.01.2022 A lesson with Missy refining her direction changes. Encouraging her to lower and turn on her hind quarters. Whilst having one big step or motion in her front quarters to change direction. Then bought her back to a walk until calm, for her that was instantly, so did a circle each way. Asked her to face up and stand before inviting her to come into me

17.01.2022 One of the horses we are currently training to saddle. Did a fantastic job getting about in the forestry behind our property. On the weekends it gets very busy with motorbikes. To which she didnt blink an eye at. Staying calm and focusing on what I was asking of her. Solid foundation, makes great horses!

17.01.2022 A couple of weeks into training to saddle and going well

17.01.2022 Goodness some people are crafty and this really does give a great visual aid

16.01.2022 Rio going incredibly well under saddle. Working on her balance and fine tuning her leg aids by doing flat work on our to be turfed arena

15.01.2022 Who doesn't love a full feed shed!?

14.01.2022 Rio's first lunging lesson, understood what I was asking very quickly. I like to ensure all the horses I train are able to be lunged at a walk before teaching them the ques for faster paces. Teaching this encourages them to be calm, focused and is the foundation for transitions when ridden. And if for some reason whilst being lunged they get a bit excited or flighty in a trot or canter I can always bring them back to a walk to regain their focus. Rio clearly has no issues with taking it slow

14.01.2022 So much fuss about saddle fitting and rightfully so, but have you stopped to think about how the pressure points of your girth affect for horse. Look forward to seeing the video with the science

13.01.2022 Hi All, Hope everyone one had a great Christmas and New Year's. GJ Horsemanship would like to introduce Arait. Our first client horse of 2021. There are some vacant spots on the calendar how ever filling up fast.

12.01.2022 Took the youngsters out for a trail ride over the weekend. Very lucky to have access to forestry from our back gate *The young boss is becoming very bossy

11.01.2022 This lovely big girl arrived over the weekend to be introduced to working under saddle. Am enjoying working with her

09.01.2022 Thanks Leisa for the great review. We are glad to see Duke come along as well as he did and continue to do so with you

09.01.2022 This afternoon we are marking out paddacks to divide and concor the weeds! We'll have approximately 15 individual horse paddocks for our own horses as well as clients horses staying with us. This will hopefully make it easier to manage the property allowing us to rotate often

01.01.2022 Been busy with these two boys. We had Rio go home 2 weeks ago and we are so pleased that her owner then decided to send Basil to us. Basil has been working on his groundwork and today took the saddle for the first time to get a feel. We have also been working with Chance. We've been doing lots of work on the ground with him to prepare him for a rug, which he wore like a champ. Today was also his first ride out in the forestry. He did so well!
