24.01.2022 Bassai-dai Bunkai: this shows two of many options for this sequence in the kata. One is to use the double hammer fist as a tool to wrap up the opponent’s arms, ...while the latter we use the punch to slide behind the opponent’s back. With both options, we use the back foot mawate (footwork known as Tenkan) to take the opponent to ground. This is the general rule for a back foot mawate in kata. See more

24.01.2022 The Online Dojo has proven so popular that many of our student's family members have started training at home with them. Congratulations to all those who have s...tarted their karate journey! We now have a category just for you - Karate for Beginners. We already have a number of videos in this category, with more coming soon... Some of these videos explain some basic concepts in karate, such as why we Shout (Kiai), why we bow, or even wear our funny white pyjamas. Beginner techniques tutorials (which will grow each week) And finally, classes designed for beginners. We will be adding to these regularly. For those experienced students, perhaps this section will also offer greater insight into your training. If you haven't already signed up, get started with a free 3 day trial at http://onlinedojo.gkrkarate.com

17.01.2022 Good afternoon Doonside Dragons! This is an update as to what is happening for our Doonside Team of instructors and where you can come and train with us from this week forward. We are still currently finalising permanent placement for us Doonside instructors for this year into a new dojo but for the mean time, we are happy to announce you will be able to find our whole team at Quakers Hill High School on WEDNESDAYS. This is just a 10 minute drive from Doonside.... For the mean time, we have partnered up and are merging with the pre-existing classes at Quakers Hill and Sensei Kerith to be able to continue to provide you with excellent, experience and supportive training. This means you will still have access to Sensei Grant, Sensei Jo, Sensei Jason, Sempai Rachel and Sempai Daniel but also have the bonus of Sensei Kerith (who most of you will know as the happy face that signs you in at gradings and our 2IC of region 2) and her team. As with our own classes, the classes below cater for all belt grades, experience and supportive needs and you will still have your normal Sensei to continue to support, encourage, teach and grade you. We would love to see all of our Doonside Dragons come over and show how amazing you all are! We have lots of space! Listed below are the class times for Wednesdays and details of where to find Quakers Hill High School. There is also some information where you will also find a couple of our Senseis on Mondays. Train in 1-2 or all 3 classes if you'd like to. Due to the return of covid restrictions, you will need to use our sign up booking system again by clicking the link below and follow the rules of isolation if you may have been exposed or are feeling unwell. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/gkrkarateregion2 As always, please try your best to arrive early to sign in, hydrate, sanitise, put your Gi on and ask any questions you may have, prior to training starting. If you know of anyone who trains with us, who may not see this post, please forward it to them. We understand this is a big change for everyone but we truly appreciate all the effort, understanding, feedback and support for us Senseis we have been receiving. Its very humbling and means a lot.
