24.01.2022 After several weeks of hard training, we decided to have a bit of fun in the dojo last night: warm-ups and games to start on the netball courts, then more games in the hall to finish off. And yes basics, line drills and kicks in between! A good sweat session prior to the heat today! And lots of fun!

23.01.2022 Thanks to all of our participants at our Self Defence seminars on the weekend. For something I hope we never have to use in real life we sure had a lot of fun in the process and covered some great content. Not that hope is a plan. It’s better to be prepared and never have to use it than to not be prepared and not know what to do if attacked. It was such a great progression between the 3 sessions. First up we had the kids and families safety awareness and self defence where w...e focused on awareness, body language, escaping techniques and communication. Next was the women’s only self defence where we focused on setting boundaries, attacking the vulnerable areas of the body, a few escape techniques and spirit training. Our last session of the day was about ground defence. This focused on getting up from the ground in different positions, defending while on the ground and getting back to your feet and avoiding getting taken to the ground. We finished with some gruelling spirit training at the end, after all spirit (aka attitude, aka effort) is the most important element in self defence, in training and in life! 20.01.2022 This is the first principle in Funakoshi’s book, The 20 guiding principles of Karate-Do. Rei is a sense of respect and esteem that starts with the self and is t...ransferred to others. Funakoshi states if a martial artist lacks this respectful heart (Rei) then they are only practising contemptible violence. It is for this reason that we must never lose our sense of respect and esteem for ourselves and our training partners. On a much deeper level it is a connection to the oneness, knowing that we are all connected. We are all ‘the one’ or part of the one. We influence our environment and those around us with our energy just like we are influenced by the energy of our environment and those around us. This is why we start with Rei and must maintain it throughout our practise and indeed, beyond the dojo. Yoga practitioners call this Namaste. It is when we honour ourselves and honour others by recognising that thread, that part of us that exists within us all.. whatever you choose to call it. See more

03.01.2022 Feeling awesome after a huge August grading in Sydneys Region 1! Part 1 saw so many amazing students push past their nerves and get their first belt and step t...owards a Black belt one day. Part 2 was a smaller group, but the focus super intense and energy levels were awesome. Some very special students achieving their Brown belt after never giving up after multiple years on Red. We also had 7 students under the watchful eyes of some serious looking sensei Not to forget, even though no pics to share we also kicked off the 5.5 hours in the Dojo with a Black belt class with some fantastic preparation before next week’s Black belt class focused on mindset and technic Lastly a very special thanks to all the Region 1 team of Sensei’s that answered my call to help out. The huge squad resulted in the day running as smooth as silk and all the students got plenty of attention, praise and focus. Without sounding too corny many hands made for light work.
