20.01.2022 SEPAI APPLICATION - two birds, one stone! Using our stance to not only create a stable platform for ourselves, but to simultaneously destabilise our opponent (t...wo birds, one stone). At the end of the day, karate teaches us to use our body. There are so many applications for this technique in Sepai kata. But this is definitely my favourite. Why? Because I know it works. Ive used in countless times in kumite against an unwilling opponent. Attacking the groin on the way through may help. And even if you dont hit the groin, with the thigh coming so close, it still draws a flinch response. In grappling kumite, this works best when you have your hips close to your opponents. Often in grappling both will distance their hips and feet from the opponent (creating an A frame). This technique will not work in such a case. If you have a different application for this technique wed love to see it. Post it in the comments below. We all learn together right? . Youre in the spirit of karate-do

18.01.2022 Life has thrown us a temporary curve ball, but that doesn't mean our health, fitness, self-defence skills or enjoyment of karate has to end. During this peculi...ar period, GKR Karate is bringing the dojo to you. Online classes for all grades and ages, covering all facets of training; and all classes are designed with limited space in mind. There is no reason why your skills and fitness can't continue to improve right now. It just requires a tiny bit of self-discipline on your part to get the ball rolling. And the beauty of self-discipline, is its only difficult for a few minutes, because after this, motivation to keep going kicks in.
17.01.2022 I could not agree more with this statement.
17.01.2022 Looking forward to sparing on the Matts
15.01.2022 Happy Mother's Day to all the karate Mum's out there. Whether you are training for yourself or there to support the kids we appreciate your efforts! Have a wond...erful day :) PS/ If you aren't training yet and you want to join in with your kids then text Sensei Jason today on 0407083304 and he will give you a Free Mothers Day Membership ;)
14.01.2022 Shihan Anthony Ryan made this video not to impress you, but to impress upon you the benefits of Home Training. You do not need a proper dojo and you do not need... much space, and one of the best things is that you are your own sensei! So you can work on what you want, and for however long you want to. 10minutes, 20minutes, 30minutes, 2hours... its your choice. Even 10minutes is going to generate progress. On this particular day, he chose to work on his Neko Ashi Dachi (Cat Stance) techniques that occur at the end of kata. Either the pivoting steps at the end of Kururunfa or Shisoshin, or the retreating steps at the end of Seisan and Hangetsu. What could you choose to work on this week? HT- GKR Karate Videos

10.01.2022 Hi Eltham Cobras the spot light on our dojo is attached have fun
10.01.2022 Attention to all Australian students and instructors: Id like to update you all on a recent decision weve made about our tournament schedule for the remainder... of 2020. Given the ongoing health concerns and the likely hesitation many people may have to travel as a result of the Coronavirus situation, we have decided not to hold a GKR Karate Australian Titles in 2020. As you know, it has been a tradition of GKRs for the last 20+ years to hold a National tournament at the end of each year, but the probable lack of interstate entries would have greatly diminished its national status. What we will do instead is push our State Titles back to November (instead of September) and these will become the major end-of-year event on the GKR competition calendar in 2020. This will give all regions the chance to hold some local tournaments in September/October in the lead up to the November State Champs. Your Regional Instructor will keep you updated regarding this in the coming weeks. Thank you for your understanding.

05.01.2022 One major downfall in many karate-ka is their ability to remain soft in their transitions, and to develop effective weight distribution. This video discusses why its important and drills on the times in Bassai-dai where we need effective body shifting (H/T - GKR Karate Videos)
05.01.2022 This was an awesome seminar with a great group of people. Great to meet everyone and make some new friends. In the seminar we covered: - Saving the hips - Kick...shift - Hip relaxation for speed and power - Breathing for performance kata - Timing and contrast for kata Big thank you to everyone who came along. Massive thank you to Sensei Jason. Huge thank you to Gary Hegedus for his camera work and for putting this video together.
04.01.2022 Saifa beginning to end as a flow drill. Performed slowly to showcase the kata. This would be altered to make it more realistic.
04.01.2022 Well, I wasn't going to post this but here it is anyway. The kata has a logical progression and progresses fluidly to take into account an aggressor's reactions... to a changing environment. Here are a couple of examples from Kururunfa kata. It's all very well and good to work with a static attack initially but the inherent intelligence of the kata will stay hidden without constant thought as to how the aggressor will react to your movement (and not just how you are going to respond to their's).
