21.01.2022 A special day with our first gradings held at the Full Time Dojo’s. One grading at Heathmont and 2 separate gradings held at Epping. Congratulations to all that graded today

21.01.2022 Happy 2021 everyone! To commemorate this momentous occasion we will be... yes - you guessed it, training some more! ... Tonight from 6pm we'll be looking at Tsuki (hand) techniques. Commonly known as punching but can be more accurately described as a set of thrusting techniques. In this session we will explore: - Correct technique, - Concepts of force, speed and snap (what you need to generate a more effective punch) - Practical partner and bag work using these thrusting techniques! See you there! Sensei's Vicki & Gary

11.01.2022 A reminder that we are training tonight at Heathmonth Dojo from 6pm sharp! Tonight's class focusses on Uke: Blocking Techniques Uke can mean many things such as: "to receive", "catch", "preparedness", "stop or parry a blow" or "sustain a hit"... Our Uke techniques can be used not only as blocks but as strikes, locks or thrusts to incapacitate an opponent. In tonight's class we will look at some of the applications for the blocks that we practise as part of our training using partner work, mitts, shields and bags. We look forward to seeing you at class Senseis Vicki & Gary

10.01.2022 Wow, what a year! We started the year with the excitement of our first full time dojo opening in Epping in March, we only had a week or two of training in before lockdown for the next 4 months. Classes then moved online along with a lot of promoting for the online dojo. (See clip ) https://youtu.be/nHEoYY0waKs... Maybe a few bloopers along the way https://youtu.be/ifNhX_xA7Bg https://youtu.be/fXzoDryAJLc During lockdown we also got to host the first karate isolation tournament https://youtu.be/QYg4WjYwsD4 (Please note this was made for a few laughs - we understand the significance of how hard COVID hit us all) We reopened for 2.5 weeks in June, only to back online again until November 9. The year finished with some silver lining with the opening of 4 more full time locations- Heathmont, Greensborough, Reservoir and Templestowe Lower. I want to thank the instructors for all their commitment this year. They stayed committed to their own training and did whatever they could to keep their students focused on continuing their training. The Sensei’s also went above and beyond in helping set up the full time venues. It could not have been done without them. Thank you also to Kancho and Shihan who fully supported the opening of our 5 full time dojo’s. Lastly thank you to all the students who stuck by us during the difficult year and also welcome to all the new members who joined the GKR family. To the students we lost this year, we hope you will find your way back to us especially in the new and improved dojo’s. Wishing everyone a wonderful celebration tonight and the best wishes for you all in 2021!

01.01.2022 Just because its holidays doesn't mean we can't train! Tonight and every Monday over the break we'll be training at our usual time slot of 6pm-7pm. Today it's all about kicks, covering correct technique, practical application through partner work kick shields and bags.... See you there Sensei Vicki
