24.01.2022 Attention to all Australian students and instructors: I’d like to update you all on a recent decision we’ve made about our tournament schedule for the remainder... of 2020. Given the ongoing health concerns and the likely hesitation many people may have to travel as a result of the Coronavirus situation, we have decided not to hold a GKR Karate Australian Titles in 2020. As you know, it has been a tradition of GKR’s for the last 20+ years to hold a National tournament at the end of each year, but the probable lack of interstate entries would have greatly diminished its ‘national’ status. What we will do instead is push our State Titles back to November (instead of September) and these will become the major end-of-year event on the GKR competition calendar in 2020. This will give all regions the chance to hold some local tournaments in September/October in the lead up to the November State Champs. Your Regional Instructor will keep you updated regarding this in the coming weeks. Thank you for your understanding.

24.01.2022 HUTT FAMILY FUNDRAISING A few months ago, one of our Region 18 GKR Karate families was struck with some difficult times ahead as they lost their house in a ...fire. Upon hearing this news, our Region came together in their time of need. From lolly guessing, to raffles that traveled the state, to a family fundraiser day at Mount Field National Park. We did it all and came together to help support one of our own. Together we as a Region last night were proud to present Toby Hutt with a cheque of $1734. Thank you to each and every one of you who came together and showed the true heart of our club and we wish all the best to the Hutt family as they rebuild their new home. RAFFLE WINNERS LOLLY GUESS - Caleb Bitz MALE HAMPER - John Ashenhurst FEMALE HAMPER - Gail Williams MAJOR HAMPER - Drew CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR WINNERS.

22.01.2022 Struggling to set goals in 2021? Perhaps you’ve successfully set goals before, but were unable to stick to them? Maybe you’ve never set goals within your karat...e journey and just don’t know how to? Let’s talk goal setting! What is goal setting? Goal setting can look very different to each individual karate-ka, depending on the lifestyle, values and what they truly define as success. It’s important to remember that there is no right or wrong. Your goals are unique to you and don’t need to look like anyone else’s. The standard goal setting process comes down to identifying something you genuinely want to achieve and establishing measurable objectives/timeframes to help you get there. Learning how to set goals will not only improve your karate, it will also help add mental clarity to your days. When you learn to set goals in one area of your life, it becomes easier to take those skills and adopt them into every other avenue of which you are passionate about. Goal setting tips 1. Brainstorming. Take five minutes out of your day to think about all the things you’d like to achieve, create, do, and grow out to be. Write as many things down as fast as you can, don’t overthink, you only have five minutes! 2. Refine your goals. You have to be specific, to be terrific. Start to refine your above brainstormed goals. Pick a top three that really means the most to you. Set deadlines of which you’d like to achieve them by. Deadlines are imperative when setting goals, this will assist in holding you accountable to consistency in training habits, dietary disciplines etc. 3. Affirm why you will achieve your listed goals. Go over what you’ve written, ask yourself, why does this excite me? Write a paragraph for your top three desired goals explaining why you will absolutely achieve this by the designated deadline. 4. Evaluate your goals. Are your goals now specific? Realistic? Measurable and Achievable? 5. Keep your goals visible. Where your focus goes, energy flows. It’s crucial to always be thinking of your goals. Tape them on the fridge or even a mirror you often use. 6. Regularly review your goals. Have a set plan to review your goals. This helps you track your progress as well as your classes, foods etc. Life happens! It’s important to stay flexible and make changes if and when necessary. 7. Share your goals. Don’t make silent agreements with yourself. Find a training partner, a friend, your Sensei, even a family member and share your list of goals with them. Sharing your list will make you more accountable and give you a partner to work with if faced with roadblocks or obstacles. The right Sensei, family member or friend can help you transform obstacles into opportunities. 8. Visualise accomplishing your goals. Visualisation is the most important ingredient to accomplishing any goal. When you visualise your goals on a daily basis, do so as if you have already achieved them. This will assist in aligning you with your purpose, values and actions. You have to believe in yourself and all your capabiltiies. If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if I may not have done it just yet Happy Goal Setting Region 18, continue to keep training hard and welcome back to the dojo

09.01.2022 Don't miss your chance to join the Okinawan Karate Masters at GKR Karate’s Okinawa Online Experience 2020! As you may know, GKR Karate organises trips to Okinaw...a every two years. Being the birthplace of karate, multiple seminars with various masters of various traditional karate styles are organised. The aim of this, beyond the cultural experience, is to expose our students to countless principles, techniques and applications. This year we had over 100 excited students, ready to join five Karate Masters at Naha's Budokan in August. With the unforeseen and unprecedented lockdowns caused by COVID-19, the 2020 trip has been postponed until further notice. As disappointing as this is, it also presents a unique opportunity! With the arrival of Zoom and live online classes, for the first time in history, students will be able to gain the rich experience of Okinawa Karate without the need to invest considerable time and money required for international travel. We have organised a number of ONLINE seminars on Sunday 21 June, with 100% of money from sales going directly to the Okinawan Masters. Okinawa is a beautiful island which relies heavily on tourism for income. This is GKR's way of helping to minimise the financial burden that has been caused by the lockdowns, and also provides all of our students with the opportunity to learn from the Master's wealth of experience and knowledge. Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to train with the Masters! Secure your spot by registering at https://onlinedojo.gkrkarate.com/gkr-okinawa-experience-2020

Our live Zoom classes will be phased out from the same date. Whilst we are all incredibly excited to be returning, it is absolutely imperative that we continue to follow the Government and GKR guidelines and maintain social distancing and strict hygiene practices within our dojos. This includes ensuring hand hygiene practices are followed, no contact with others in the dojo, a limit on the numbers of people in one room, social distancing of at least 2m between people, wiping of used surfaces and no people watching classes. Possibly the most important is that no person is to attend a dojo if they are unwell. Unwell includes, but is not restricted to, the following symptoms: - coughing - sneezing - sore throat - raised temperature - runny nose - blocked nose Over the next two weeks we will share with all students, and their parents, these expectations in more detail. 01.01.2022 TASMANIAN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP What a phenomenal day we had in Lauderdale on Saturday at our State Championships. The energy was high, the pre bout nerves were ...fluttering and the excitement was felt by all in the arena. As the rounds went on it was easy to see that all competitors were there with purpose and had all brought their A game. The standards were high, providing tough decisions to be made by our judges on the day. To say your instructors were proud would be an understatement. The overall sportsmanship was outstanding. The support, compassion and genuine excitement shown by spectators, officials and competitors exceeded expectations. Thank you to all parents, partners, siblings, friends and families for your support leading up to and on the day. Thank you to all our volunteers in the tuck shop and stock shop, your time and effort is always appreciated. To all our officials, runners, admin and first aid, without the impeccable teamwork and efficiency of you all, the day would not have been the success it was. Lastly to our competitors. Although we had an unprecedented preparation, your resiliency, mental fortitude and overall karate mindset allowed us to have this event and on behalf of Region 18 we thank each and everyone of you.
