25.01.2022 It's wednesday and you know what that means everyone - time to Gi up and giddy down to Putney dojo tonight. 6-7pm & 7.15-8.15pm. The secret to getting your black belt is just turning up every week - 50% of the formula is to just show up. The other half of the secret is to give 100% when you are there. Give it everything you've got. See you in a couple of hours champions :)

19.01.2022 Awesome classes at Putney last night working on our lunge/Reverse punch combination, working on different kinds of defences for kumite including escaping with footwork, blocking and covering up. We then unleashed on the kickshields with front kicks, stepping kicks and finished with some jumping kicks for fun and to develop leg strength and agility. Great to see our new 2nd class growing as well with double figures for the first time. Here’s a couple of photos of the guys from... last night playing charades. Can you guess what they’re trying to tell you in the 2 photos? By the way the weird faces in the 2nd photo are because we’re so used to putting up 1 finger to represent the region 1 Family we’re not used to putting up 2 fingers. 19.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there. We hope you’ve been able to spend some quality time with your families today. Since karate is something that Dad’...s can do with their kids to bond, keep fit and learn self defence, we’re going to give all our Dad’s in Region 1 the chance to get a FREE membership (normally $95). 05.01.2022 This is the first principle in Funakoshi’s book, The 20 guiding principles of Karate-Do. Rei is a sense of respect and esteem that starts with the self and is t...ransferred to others. Funakoshi states if a martial artist lacks this respectful heart (Rei) then they are only practising contemptible violence. It is for this reason that we must never lose our sense of respect and esteem for ourselves and our training partners. On a much deeper level it is a connection to the oneness, knowing that we are all connected. We are all ‘the one’ or part of the one. We influence our environment and those around us with our energy just like we are influenced by the energy of our environment and those around us. This is why we start with Rei and must maintain it throughout our practise and indeed, beyond the dojo. Yoga practitioners call this Namaste. It is when we honour ourselves and honour others by recognising that thread, that part of us that exists within us all.. whatever you choose to call it. See more
