24.01.2022 To all GKR students, please find a short video from our founder and Chief Instructor, Kancho Robert Sullivan.

21.01.2022 It’s one day late but from all of us at GKR Karate Sydney Region 1 - Happy Birthday Sensei Robert

21.01.2022 This is the first principle in Funakoshi’s book, The 20 guiding principles of Karate-Do. Rei is a sense of respect and esteem that starts with the self and is t...ransferred to others. Funakoshi states if a martial artist lacks this respectful heart (Rei) then they are only practising contemptible violence. It is for this reason that we must never lose our sense of respect and esteem for ourselves and our training partners. On a much deeper level it is a connection to the oneness, knowing that we are all connected. We are all ‘the one’ or part of the one. We influence our environment and those around us with our energy just like we are influenced by the energy of our environment and those around us. This is why we start with Rei and must maintain it throughout our practise and indeed, beyond the dojo. Yoga practitioners call this Namaste. It is when we honour ourselves and honour others by recognising that thread, that part of us that exists within us all.. whatever you choose to call it. See more

19.01.2022 Here are the details of our blue belt project class to be held later this month. Weve decided to make our blue belt project seminar a beach class. Please come ...along to this great class and show your support for our mental health awareness month and beyond blue. If you dont usually go to the beach or get up early or exercise in the morning and it feels like it would be uncomfortable for you, imagine how uncomfortable it might feel for someone suffering from a mental health issue to come forward and seek the support and help they need to overcome their condition. Remember to wear your special blue belt, if you dont have one yet weve still got a few left you can order from class or go to www.bluebeltproject.com See more

08.01.2022 Congratulations to all our students who graded on sunday. Special mention to Josephine Everett from Pymble Dojo for achieving the Karate Kid of the day award, H...amilton Seoung who at just 9 years of age achieved his red belt & Olivia Mestres for being our highest grade of the day achieving her 1st kyu and looking very sharp and strong throughout - looking forward to seeing you achieve your Black Belt. Remember to speak with your Sensei about setting a goal for your next grading to help you with your discipline, motivation and focus in each class. Whilst you do need to at least do the minimum amount of classes before your next grading, its not just the hours you put in to improve and get better, its what you put in the hours. Keep your awareness in the moment to improve your technique, listen to your Sensei and apply the instruction and feedback you get each class, push your limits to improve your speed and power and build your confidence by feeling good about doing your best and having the courage to overcome every challenge on your path. A black belt is just a white belt that didnt quit. You dont have to be a black belt to train like a black belt, you can adopt the black belt mindset and training habits now. Its your choice - choose to be awesome :) See more
