20.01.2022 For Week 7 (18th February) we had a busy class with lots of different things happening. It was only 11 days until our first big Tournament of 2020, so all the students who were competing were busy working on their Kata. Those who weren’t competing this time, went through the basic techniques, looking for specific techniques used in a few chosen kata. We then had some fun going through the 5 basic blocks using them as strikes. We did them all using only one arm, start...ing with head level block, then stomach level block, downward block, sweeping block and inside hooking block. Each block was used as a strike onto focus mitts. Those students who had the mitts on first, had mitts on both hands and used alternate hands to block the strikes. This took a lot of concentration and coordination for both the attacker as well as the defender (who had to make sure they blocked each attack in the correct position). Then we swapped. Before the other class awards this week we had 2 gradings, Georgia and Nathan graded to their 9th Kyu yellow tips. Congratulations on your very first grading. You are both progressing well and are half way to your yellow belts. Next, Gordon received an award for his great effort in class this week. Well done Gordon. Other awards went to Amelia and Shianna, who both did a great job working on their team kata. Well done girls. The Sempai’s award this week went to Brooklyn, good job! Congratulations to Josh C for earning the Student of the Week award. Great effort by all the award winners.

20.01.2022 Week 8 (25th Feb 2020) This week’s class was a last minute check on all things ‘tournament’. We marked a ring on the floor and had a full-on tournament session. Meanwhile the other students were in kata groups in our wonderful big under cover area out the back working on kata and bunkai for their kata. We had rather a large group of award winners this week with 7 students grading, 2 new students as well as the normal awards. All rather exciting. First up we had 2 student...s grading to their 9th Kyu Yellow tip. They were Joshua and Sam. Congratulations toboth of you. Well done. Our next group of students all graded to their 7th Kyu ho, Orange tip. Big congratulations to Rhys, Jason, Tyler, Seth and Cris. Amazing work! Well done, all of you. It won’t be long before we have a lot more Orange belts in our class. I am really excited to see this happen. I would like to welcome our two brand new students Chelsea and William, who did an amazing first class and received awards for doing such a great job. Well done William and Chelsea on a fantastic first class. Our next award went to Kathleen for her great kata. Well done Kathleen you are improving all the time. We also had two special awards going to Jacob and Jai who also train at Gwandalan. They received an award for great karate in their first class at Wadalba. Lovely to have you in our class. The Sempai’s Award this week went to Rhys. Grading and Sempai’s award in one week. Well done Rhys! Finally, our Student of the Week award this week actually went to two students. Luke and Robbie did a great job in class themselves and helped out in class as well. Much appreciated, Luke and Robbie, thank you.

15.01.2022 There have not been many posts lately but it is now catch up time. :) This is a post from the class a few weeks ago (all before lock down of course). Week 6 (11th Feb) This week in class the main focus was Kata, but in particular Tournament Kata. We had students preparing for the tournament to do an individual kata and we had other preparing for the teams events in teams of three for both Team kata and Dojo Team kata, representing Wadalba dojo. I was thrilled that so many of... you put your hands up to compete and it was exciting to watch all the kata and teams come together and I couldn’t wait to see you all at the tournament on the day. So back to tonight’s class and our award winners: In the first class we had Eva who graded to her 9th Kyu. Congratulations Eva, well done. Then in the second class Alina graded to her 9th Kyu also. Congratulations Alina great effort, doing 2 classes. Our newest student Sam received an award for an awesome first class. Congratulations Sam, well done to you too. Our next award winner was Bailey who did really well in class, fantastic effort Bailey!! Other award winners were Joshua, well done on your great focus in class. Luke received the Sempai’s Award this week for his great work in class. Excellent effort Luke. Our final award, our Student of the Week Award this week went to Lacie for doing an amazing job with her kata and for helping others with their kata also. Thank you Lacie, awesome job!! Our Second class tonight was mostly breaking down some of the Bassai Dai moves and trying to get correct feet placement, getting stiffness out of moves, while keeping our strength and speed in the moves that needed it. I can see progress with this already. Great work to the higher grades on their efforts tonight also.
