25.01.2022 What an awesome weekend of karate its been for the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo! Saturday morning we ran through the Kihon grading formats and Kata from Taigyoku Shodan to Seiunchin. To finish off the class and with the Kancho Sullivan seminar on Sunday it was the perfect opportunity to have a go at running through one of Kanchos own katas, Sho-Kan-Te. We had a student move through to their next grade level. Young Chloe who has also trained at the Tapping Tigers and Heathridge D...ojos was graded to her 9th kyu white belt yellow tip! Congratulations Chloe! The grading on Sunday saw 6 Wanneroo Warriors move through to their next grade level. Dad and son Murray and Alex graded through to their 8th kyu yellow belt. Congratulations Alex and Murray! Seane, Rheanna and Kylah who all also train at the Tapping Tigers Dojo graded through to their 8th kyu yellow belt, 7th kyu orange belt and 6th kyu green belt respectively. Congratulations Seane, Rheanna and Kylah! Andrew also trains with Sensei Julia and Sensei David at the Heathridge Dojo as well as Sensei Garth at the Beldon Bats Dojo graded to his 6th kyu green belt! Congratulations Andrew! 23.01.2022 Saturday morning we had a great class down at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. Following on from our focus on stances since the reopening of classes, we worked on Ashi Sabaki (Footwork) with a more Kumite or combat style approach. Ashi Sabaki has been a big focus of Sensei Julias and it was great to recap and reinforce the different footwork. ... We worked on the footwork transitions first before adding various striking and blocking techniques. We finished off by looking at how we could use 3 different stances, Neko Ashi Dachi (Cat Stance), Sanchin Dachi and Shiko Dachi (Sumo Stance) against the same attack in a self defence situation. We acknowledged and wished two students a Happy Birthday. Twins Alfred and Austin celebrate their 7th birthday on Sunday so as per Wanneroo Warriors tradition they both got to wear the Birthday Black Belt. Happy Birthday Alfred and Austin! We also said farewell to Sempai Matt and thanked him for his service at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. He has been with us for the last 6 weeks on a temporary basis assisting with the transition between Sensei Garth stepping down from his role and Sempai Rohan being appointed. Sempai Matt is returning to being a public student so he can focus on his own training and train with his son Quinn. Hes originally a Morley Magpie but we hope he can come back to the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo once in awhile to say hello and train with us. We again thank you Matt and wish you all the best with your training in the future See all you Warriors next week at the dojo!
23.01.2022 It was a fantastic turnout for what was a great class Saturday morning at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. With 29 on the floor, we worked up a sweat by smashing through Kihon grading formats before breaking out the kick shields to work on Mae Geri Front Kick and Mawashi Geri Round Kick. We finished off by running through Kata up to Empi. We welcomed Lachlan and his dad Troy to the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo for a free trial class. They did a great job following along and really enj...oyed the class. We hope to see them again soon. Congratulations Lachlan and Troy! We also welcomed Makaylas sister Chloe to the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. Shes recently started her karate journey and has already trained at the Tapping and Heathridge Dojos. Its fantastic to see her training with her sister. It was also awesome to have Sensei Warrick come and train with us. A special mention and thanks goes out to Sempai Malissa for her help working with some of the younger students with the kick shields Have a great week and well see all you Warriors at the dojo!
23.01.2022 Happy New Year Wanneroo Warriors! I trust you’ve all had a good break and are ready to get back into training and smash those goals for 2021 A reminder that classes recommence as of tonight at 5:45pm with Sensei Andrew. ... We also have a slight change to our timetable with regards to the Saturday morning class. I did mention it towards the end of last year that the class start time will change to 10:00am and run through to 11:30am. It’s official now so lock it in! Sensei Andrew, Sempai Rohan and myself are pumped for what’s going to be an awesome year of training in front of us and we can’t wait to see all you Warriors back in the dojo! I’ll see some of you tonight Sensei Dave
23.01.2022 It was yet another awesome training session Saturday morning down at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. We spent the entire session working on our fundamental Kumite techniques. We warmed up in line by practicing our lunge punches, reverse punches and front kicks before working on various blocking and countering combinations. We then partnered up and used these same attacking techniques and block and counter combinations to work on distance, targeting, control and reaction timing.... The whole time though having a focus on guards up and being in a low stance. We welcomed Caiden to the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo for the first time on a Saturday morning. He trains mainly at the Dianella and Darch Dojos as well as training on the State Team and was a regular member of the Kata & Kumite class. It was great to have him onboard and we hope to see him train with us again. We were also looking at a student to move through to their next grade level. Vincent has such a positive attitude, is very polite and respectful as well as having some very good karate at such a young age. It was a pleasure to award Vincent his 7th kyu-ho yellow belt orange tip. Congratulations Vincent! See all you Warriors at the dojo!

19.01.2022 It was a great morning of karate yesterday at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. We welcomed young Carter to the dojo for a free trial class. He, Arlo and Vincent got to work with Sempai Rohan on the basic Kihon techniques before testing them out on the kick shields. Sensei David took the rest of the class through the grading formats to assess potential candidates for Sunday’s grading. ... We then had students up on the floor on groups performing Kata in preparation for the Kata tournament next weekend. We were in for a treat at the end by having the black belts up performing their 2 grade Kata full focus own timing. It was a fantastic display of Kata and great for the students to be able to watch. After we bowed out Carter was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for an awesome first class! He was quite impressive and seemed to really enjoy the training. We hope to see him again soon. Congratulations Carter! Good luck to the Wanneroo Warriors who are attempting their next grade level. See all you Warriors next week!
18.01.2022 It was a great class Monday night with Sensei Andrew at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. After a quick warmup we ran through some Kihon with the white and yellow belts working in Heiko Dachi whilst the higher grades moved through in Zenkutsu Dachi with a particular focus on the Haito and Shuto strikes. We then split into Kata groups with Sensei Andrew working with the white belts on First Kata Taigyoku Shodan while Sensei Dave took the yellow belts and above through various kata... starting from Saifa. We also welcomed two new students to the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. Ruby and Carter did a great job following along with the other students and they were both awarded Certificates of Achievement for An Awesome First Class! Congratulations Ruby and Carter! Also Warriors a reminder that classes run as normal over the Easter long weekend so we hope to see as many of you as possible on Saturday morning and Monday night. Have a great Easter everyone! Stay safe and don’t eat too many Easter Eggs!
17.01.2022 Friday is ZOOM night with Sensei David and Sempai Mark Check out the guys who trained last week
17.01.2022 Welcome back Wanneroo Warriors! How good is it to be back training in the dojo?!!! Whilst the GKR Online Dojo and live Zoom classes are a great innovation and have helped many of us keep our training up during this period, theres nothing like training in the dojo with our fellow karate-ka. ... For the first few weeks back on Saturday mornings well be focusing on stances. After all, they are the foundation on which all our other techniques are built. Last week we focused Heiko Dachi and Zenkutsu Dachi. After a warm up we dusted off the cobwebs by running through the white and yellow belt grading format in Heiko Dachi. We then worked on explosive transitions from Heiko Dachi forwards and back into Zenkutsu Dachi adding various techniques for different offensive and defensive applications. Turning our focus to Kata, we identified sequences in Taigyoku Shodan, Nidan, Saifa and Bassai Dai that incorporate Zenkutsu Dachi and we drilled them. We finished off with Kata from Taigyoku Shodan to Bassai Dai. We welcomed a few new faces to the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. Josh trains with Sensei Garth at the Beldon Bats Dojo and Sempai Matt and Quinn hail from the Morley Magpies Dojo. Great to have them onboard with us. Unfortunately we also had to farewell one of our own. It was announced that Sensei Garth was stepping down from his role of Sempai at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. He has been Sempai for over 2 years and in that time he has developed a fantastic rapport with the students. His passion for karate is infectious and his ability to inspire and motivate students is awesome. He always has excellent pieces of information to offer, whether it be technical feedback or something of a more philosophical nature. He shows the highest level of respect to everyone, whether they be a beginner or an experienced karate-ka. I am extremely honoured and privileged to have had someone with the skill, knowledge and character of Sensei Garth as Sempai. But it wont be the last we see of Sensei Garth. From time to time hell rock up to train with us and he also runs a great class on Wednesday nights down at the Beldon Bats Dojo. Thank you Sensei Garth for your time, dedication and commitment to the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. Rei
16.01.2022 It was another great training session yesterday morning at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. With the Darch Dojo unavailable due to the election, we had Sensei Mohamed, Sempai Chelsea and some of the Darch crew join us to have 30 on the floor. After a quick warmup we ran through the white & yellow belt grading format before running the orange & green, blue & red and brown belt grading formats simultaneously. ... We finished off with Kata with kyu grades working from Taigyoku Shodan to Seiunchin and black belts starting at Sanseru and working through to Kururunfa. We were also looking at 2 students to move through to their next grade level. Oscar and Jessica have been training at the Monday night class with Sensei Andrew as well as Saturday mornings. At the end of class they were awarded their 9th white belt yellow tip. Congratulations Oscar and Jessica! See all you Warriors at the Dojo!
15.01.2022 This is our live online class timetable. Who will be training?
15.01.2022 Hey Warriors! On Sunday we held our last grading for the year which seen a whopping 61 students hit the floor! The atmosphere was fantastic, with great focus and intensity, excellent etiquette, high energy levels and a good standard of karate overall. It was great to see so many students on the floor considering the challenging year that it has been. It’s a testament to their commitment to training, their instructors and of Region 13 as a whole. ... The Wanneroo Warriors Dojo had a strong contingent on the floor with 11 students from the regular classes as well as 2 students from the Kata & Kumite class successfully moving through to their next grade levels. Congratulations to Lucas, Ava, Callum, Talia, Tricia and Josh who all graded to their 7th kyu orange belt! Congratulations also goes to Daniel, Zoe and Lucas who all achieved their 6th kyu green belt! Luke has shown an uncreased level of focus and determination as well as an improved standard of karate so it was extremely pleasing to see him rewarded with his 5th kyu blue belt. Congratulations Luke! Caiden and Sakura who have been regular members of the Kata & Kumite class were awarded the ranks of 4th kyu and 2nd kyu respectively. Fantastic achievements! And then there was John. John has trained for nearly 3 years and done well over 300 classes since grading to 2nd kyu. He worked extremely hard through the Kihon and Kata and pushed to the limit during 4 rounds of Kumite to thoroughly deserve being awarded the rank of 1st kyu. Massive congratulations John! Congratulations to all the Wanneroo Warriors for achieving their next grade levels. We’re extremely proud of you all and can’t wait to see you all back in the dojo where the journey continues

11.01.2022 It was an awesome fast paced, high energy class on Saturday morning at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo that got the blood pumping and everyone working up a sweat. We continued our focus on Ashi Sabaki (Footwork) by working on Kumite combinations in both offensive and defensive scenarios. We looked at what striking and kicking techniques and combinations of the two we could use with the various footwork that we worked on last week. ... 08.01.2022 We had a great class on Saturday morning down at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. We continued our focus from previous weeks on stances. We warmed up by running through grading formats before turning our attention to Kokutsu Dachi (Backwards Leaning Stance) while the yellow belts focused on Zenkutsu Dachi. We worked on how to transition and different ways of transitioning through the stance, sections of Kata where Kokutsu Dachi appears and finished off working on Kata Bassai Dai ...while the yellow belts worked on 1st and 2nd Kata. We welcomed Sempai Rohan to the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo and congratulated him for his promotion to the rank of Sempai. He will be a great addition to the instructor team and the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. Congratulations and welcome Sempai Rohan! We also acknowledged Sempai Mark for his promotion to the rank of Sensei. Apart from his role of Sempai at the Heathridge Dojo, he has been teaching at the Tapping Tigers Dojo for the past 6 weeks and has officially taken on the role of head instructor. 05.01.2022 Its been a great last couple of weeks down at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo, continuing with our focus on stances. Last week we started off warming up with the white and yellow belt grading format before turning our attention to Shiko Dachi (Sumo Stance). We worked on dropping into stance, transitioning through in stance and then adding various striking and blocking techniques. We identified parts of Kata Saifa and Seiunchin where we use Shiko Dachi and then drilled them. We th...en finished off with working on the patterns of Kata Saifa and Seiunchin. Yesterday we warmed up by moving on to the orange and green belt grading format before focusing on Kiba Dachi (Horse Riding Stance). We worked on variations on transitioning through stance and again adding appropriate striking and blocking techniques as well as Yoko Geri Side Kick. We drilled parts of Kata Bassai-Dai and Empi where we use this stance and finished off as a group working through the pattern of Kata Bassai-Dai. Last week we had a student move through to their next grade level. Murray has shown a real desire to learn and understand and has been working hard on his karate. It was pleasing to be able to award him with his 9th kyu white belt yellow tip. Congratulations Murray! Its also great to see Murray training with his son Alex and them enjoying their karate journey together. This week it was great to see Sourish and Shreya make their karate comeback at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. Weve missed them both and I look forward to working with them to achieve their next level. Great to have the Mondals back! See all you Warriors at the Dojo!
05.01.2022 It was an awesome morning of karate and a fantastic turnout for the Easter long weekend yesterday down at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. After spending the last two weeks working on Kumite, this week we turned our focus to Kata. After a quick warmup we ran through Kata together as a group from Taigyoku Shodan to Empi with students staying on their grade Kata as we moved through. ... We then split up into Kata groups with students working on their grade Kata before then having the opportunity to learn the next Kata up. It was fantastic to see the students in their groups discussing, asking questions and working diligently on their Kata. A big thank you goes out to Sensei Warrick for his assistance with taking the Seiunchin group We also welcomed two students to the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo for a free trial class as part of the Bring a Friend promotion. Kerolos and Nofer formed a group with friends John and Joseph and Sempai Rohan and had a go at First and Second Kata. The boys enthusiasm and focus was really apparent and they were both awarded Certificates of Achievement for An Awesome First Class! Congratulations Kerolos and Nofer! But what made it a truly awesome morning of karate was the return of one of our students. Ken was involved in a major car accident about 6 months ago in which he suffered a broken neck, 7 fractured vertebrae, 2 broken ribs and a major head wound which required 28 staples in his skull. It was devastating to hear that he’d been involved in a such a life threatening accident. And whilst it’s been a long road to recovery, it’s been fantastic to have his son Daniel staying strong and training every week. It was truly a special moment to have Ken enter the dojo for the first time in 6 months and to see father and son training together again. You could definitely feel the love in the dojo. It really is awesome to have you back Ken! And being Easter at the end of class we handed out some Easter Eggs as a reward for all the students. Enjoy the rest of your Easter long weekend Warriors and we’ll see you either tomorrow at Sensei Andrew’s class or next Saturday morning Sensei Dave
04.01.2022 Sensei Garth will be live on ZOOM at 6 PM tonight. https://onlinedojo.gkrkarate.com/
02.01.2022 Hey Warriors! Saturday morning we had our last class of the year at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo. We started off the class by running through Kata from Taigyoku Shodan to Empi, with the lower grades staying at Saifa. Then as a group we all had a go at Gekisai Dai Ichi, the Goju version of the Kata that used to be in the GKR syllabus about 20 years ago. ... We broke out the kick shields, split up into groups and punished the bags (taking out our frustration with 2020) with front, round, side and back kicks. Partnering up we then had some fun with hips and shoulders before busting out the pool noodles and seeing all the karateka transform into Jedi masters! We finished off the last class of 2020 with a couple of games of dodgeball, much to the student’s delight. It was heaps of fun and it was great to see young Daniel win both games. Well done Daniel! Well it’s been an interesting year to say the least and whilst there’s been some challenges and setbacks to our training with the dojo closures there’s also been a whole lot of positives. We did lose some students along the way but the ones who made it through have come out stronger on the other side. We had some great accomplishments amongst the Wanneroo Warriors students, especially later in the year where their perseverance and hard work paid off. A special mention goes out to Cooper, Sourish and Shreya who all graded to their 3rd kyu brown belt at the October grading. They have all been training at the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo for a long time now and have come so far in their karate journeys. I’m extremely proud of them all for achieving this milestone. As we have done in previous years, we have also recognised a particular student for the outstanding year they have had. This year it gave me great pleasure to announce that the Wanneroo Warriors Student of the Year for 2020 is Eva Robin! Eva increased her training by getting down to the Wanneroo Warriors Dojo on Monday nights and through some more one on one training and personal feedback as well as hard work she graded to her 4th kyu red belt at the September grading. She also won Gold in the Region 13 Kata Tournament in October. But more important than all of this is her attitude and etiquette. She is always so willing to learn, takes on feedback and actively implements it. She is so polite, very respectful and demonstrates all the aspects of a true karateka. A very deserving winner of the 2020 Wanneroo Warriors Student of the Year. Congratulations Eva! It’s now time to relax and enjoy some time off BUT... set yourselves some goals for next year and try to do a little bit of training over the holidays, whether it be practising techniques that need improvement, running through some kata or even learning a new one. On behalf of myself, Sensei Julia, Sensei Andrew and Sempai Rohan I would like to wish all you Wanneroo Warriors and your families a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year! Sensei Dave
02.01.2022 It was fantastic having the Kata & Kumite class back in action on Sunday. The focus was predominantly on Kata refinement; however, it was good to spend a short time on Kumite drills as well. With the rules of distancing in play, it was a great opportunity to work on improving footwork and reaction timing. As always, stay focussed, keep training hard and see you next time!
02.01.2022 Thursday is ZOOM night with Sensei Julia and Sensei David Check out the guys who trained last week
