25.01.2022 Hi all, Unfortunately, due to the restrictions put in place by the PM yesterday evening, all Australian GKR Karate classes have been suspended until further notice, effective immediately. Please see the link below to Kancho's official statement. During this period of closure, GKR plans to launch a platform that will deliver high quality training materials and regular online tuition. We will keep you updated on the progress of this launch in the coming days.... I hope that you all stay safe and healthy during this time. I will let you know when classes resume, and look forward to seeing you all back at class when it does. Until then, stay safe. Sensei Cameron

24.01.2022 Congratulations to Fletcher for achieving his first grade of yellow belt! Keep it up champion, a black belt is just a white belt that didn't quit :)

24.01.2022 Here are the details of our blue belt project class to be held later this month. We've decided to make our blue belt project seminar a beach class. Please come ...along to this great class and show your support for our mental health awareness month and beyond blue. If you don't usually go to the beach or get up early or exercise in the morning and it feels like it would be uncomfortable for you, imagine how uncomfortable it might feel for someone suffering from a mental health issue to come forward and seek the support and help they need to overcome their condition. Remember to wear your special blue belt, if you don't have one yet we've still got a few left you can order from class or go to www.bluebeltproject.com See more

23.01.2022 Go-Kan-Ryu Karate (GKR) is a traditional Japanese style of karate. GKR was founded by Robert Sullivan in Adelaide, South Australia. Robert first began training in the art of karate in 1964, and spent time training and teaching in both Japan and the USA before establishing GKR in 1984. GKR Karate is taught in a non-contact environment and promotes both character and physical development. GKR is a club for all ages and promotes self-defence, fitness, coordination, discipline, c...onfidence and stress relief. People of all walks of life can train together and learn the art of karate in a safe, fun and encouraging environment. If you would like to know more about GKR, from class times, to prices or anything else, you can contact the Senior Instructor for Sydney on 0404 092 747, email at [email protected], or via the regions primary Facebook page GKR Karate Region 1 Australia

12.01.2022 This is the first principle in Funakoshi’s book, The 20 guiding principles of Karate-Do. Rei is a sense of respect and esteem that starts with the self and is t...ransferred to others. Funakoshi states if a martial artist lacks this respectful heart (Rei) then they are only practising contemptible violence. It is for this reason that we must never lose our sense of respect and esteem for ourselves and our training partners. On a much deeper level it is a connection to the oneness, knowing that we are all connected. We are all ‘the one’ or part of the one. We influence our environment and those around us with our energy just like we are influenced by the energy of our environment and those around us. This is why we start with Rei and must maintain it throughout our practise and indeed, beyond the dojo. Yoga practitioners call this Namaste. It is when we honour ourselves and honour others by recognising that thread, that part of us that exists within us all.. whatever you choose to call it. See more

05.01.2022 A special message from Shihan Stacey Karetsian to start 2017..... "Happy New Year to all of our students, families and friends. We trust you have had a wonderfu...l Christmas and enjoyed the festivities at this time of year. I would like to take this opportunity to wish for you the most amazing year in 2017. There is always so much written about the start of a new year - the New Years resolutions, all the great changes to be made, all the bad habits to be broken... it is all set out with the best intentions, yet, we are human after all, and there's always 'stuff' that's both within and out of our control that gets in the way of our great plans... and so the result of all this? I'd say for many of us, we don't stick to these plans, we quit, we fail. Well that's what it feels like right? Fact is there is no such thing as failure. Yet, because we believe it to be a form of failure we start to internalize it all. We put ourselves down. We tell ourselves that we're not good enough, we convince ourselves that we're not deserving or worthy... this is not a healthy way to live. Of all the amazing virtues that karate instills in us, some of the more appropriate that come to mind now are values such as being considerate, caring, kind. This is not just referring to the way we treat others. We need to be kind to ourselves too. So when we wish for internal or personal change, especially at this time of year when new goals and ideals are being formed, we need to give ourselves some flexibility, and appreciate that we are not perfect and nor are our plans. We can wish for more and continue to work on ourselves, and we must also give ourselves some slack when things may not go as planned. The big danger is that we might have tried to do something great for ourselves once, and we failed, so we don't want to try again. We naturally do not want to feel the pain that comes with the feeling of failure, so in order to protect ourselves we insist that we don't put ourselves in a position where this may happen again. This is not healthy. The fear of this failure lives inside our heads. We have to see it for what it really is, understand it, and control it. If there's one thing to wish for you this coming year, it's to give yourself more kindness, allow yourself to try, to fall, to get up again and keep going, because the only way for us to continue to grow and build on our skills and life experiences is to never be fooled into thinking that we are not good enough. We can try, we might fail, but we won't give in to thinking that everything worthwhile pursuing has to be achieved in one single shot. If we knew that we could never fail as long as we made progress, and never gave into our fears, we'd be great... nothing ventured, nothing gained. Have an awesome 2017. Fill your cup full of life, love, happiness and joy. Take risks, step out of your comfort zone, enjoy your journey. Stay at the top of your game, strive for constant improvement, become the best version of you... and remember, when you fall, or get side swiped by life, and you feel like you're not moving forward or getting ahead, tell yourself it's ok. It's actually exactly as it should be. We learn from our mistakes, in the Dojo and in life, and as long as we're in there taking a swing at it, it's going to turn out great in the end! Wishing you an amazing 2017, Shihan Stacey Karetsian"
