25.01.2022 Thanks to all those who attended the official launch of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Gladstone Eisteddfod which was held today at the GECC. The committee would sincerely like to thank all our sponsors, without whom we would not have made 50 years. We’d also like to thank all the competitors, teachers, families, adjudicators and the Gladstone public for their support and commitment. Fifty years would not have been possible without those who have volunteered the...ir time and we cannot thank them enough. We are looking forward to a great year of celebration and many years more to showcase the amazing talent of the people of Gladstone and surrounds. 19.01.2022 It is with great sadness that today we announce the cancellation of the 50th Gladstone Eisteddfod and the 50th Gladstone Eisteddfod Showcase. This decision has not been made lightly. There are a lot of obstacles given the uncertainty of COVID19’s time frame of impact or how it would affect organising an event such as this. Our priority is to align with Government and Health Department restrictions to minimise the risk of COVID19 harm. We can not in good faith guarantee that h...olding this event would be zero-risk. All entrants will receive a refund (minus Stardom admin fees). We thank our sponsors and volunteers for the support they have provided us this year. With all that is going on in the world, our love of the performing arts is one to keep us all going. If you need any guidance as to how that works in today’s climate, please feel free to message us and we’ll try to help as best we can. See you all in 2021!

16.01.2022 THE FIRST MEETING: The first Eisteddfod held by the Gladstone Eisteddfod Association was held in October 1971. Planning for this inaugural event took place over twelve months. A public meeting to gauge interest in the event was held in the Board Room at the Gladstone Town Hall (now the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum) on 22 September, 1970, and was chaired by Mayor, William Golding, with the Town Clerk, Mr H Colbran acting as the secretary at this first meeting. Mor...e than 20 people went to this public meeting, including music teachers, ballet teachers and those interested in the arts. A working committee was formed with Mr John Breyley, president, and Mrs Margaret Randall, secretary. Mayor Golding pledged the support of the Town Council and the Harbour Board, and also said that the Observer would be willing to present a substantial trophy. See more

Playing duets with my sister Dianne. Sibling rivalry brought out the best in us both. Do you think performing in Eisteddfods is important? It brings out the best in you!! The hurdles you overcome, the many hours of practice you do, conquering your inner fears and doubts for that one moment on stage. It’s our version of the Olympic Games. What would you say to anyone that was thinking of performing in Eisteddfods? Just do it. You never know where this could lead you. What are your top tips for performing? Fight through the butterflies and believe in yourself. As they say - the world is your stage... The Gladstone Eisteddfod is currently open for entries. 10.01.2022 Where are they now? To celebrate 50 years of the Gladstone Eisteddfod we have reached out to past and present performers to share their memories. HANNAH WEBB Vocal Competitor from 1996-2008 Current Occupation: Community Engagement Officer... Currently living in: GLADSTONE What was your favourite section to compete in? Stage Show or Musical. I loved this section because you were able to express the character you were playing, try to do it with justice and perform differently to every other section. Do you remember any funny moments from the Eisteddfod? Hanging backstage. With everyone in our section. It was a yearly reunion. Everyone was constantly so supportive of everyone even though we were all competing against each other. Plus we were always ‘shhh’ by the lovely ladies back stage. How has the Gladstone Eisteddfod impacted you? Tremendously! Whenever I think about the Eisteddfod my hearts fills with happiness and I cannot wipe the smile off my face. I honestly believe that it helped shaped me to be the person I am today. What would you say to anyone that was thinking of performing in an Eisteddfod? Do it! Give it a go. You won’t regret it. Don’t think about it as a competition but as a learning experience where you get to meet amazing people and friends for life. What are you top tips for performing on stage? Always smile once at the mark to the audience and adjudicator. Breathe, relax, and go for it! Do you still participate in the performing arts? I’m the lead singer of local band RedThorn The Gladstone Eisteddfod is currently open for entries.
