12.01.2022 How's this for a happy snap of Zoomers? Admittedly, the timer is looking a tad serious... that's because Toastmasters take timing seriously. That's how we get through all the agenda items, without waffle, and finish as scheduled. Everyone contributed to an enjoyable night of speaking, aptly themed 'Spring' by Toastmaster Trent. Grammarian Aileen counted the umms and ahhs and challenged all to use 'blossom'. This 'word of the day' blossomed throughout the meeting, as every...one slipped it into their speaking opportunities. Table Topics Master Inez showed mastery of the Zoom platform, and wisely reminded folk to unmute before starting their impromptu 1-2 minute tale. We learnt Miranda would prefer to tend roses and chickens, or make cheese, than Spring clean. Not sure if she gained bonus points for the blossoms on her blouse or the rose blooms she earlier added to her Zoom background. Centre of pic is a relaxed and happy Chris Doring who presented his first speech. Chris's chosen Pathway is Strategic Relationships. His Icebreaker speech packed a lot into the 4-6 minute timeframe. Colleen's evaluation included much praise, particularly for his charming reference to the Philippines as the Pearl of the Seas. Speaking of language, we learnt Chris is fluent in 3! Geoff and Miranda both demonstrated use of the 'top and tail' device in their stories. Early in his speech, Geoff turned his head away from the camera. He looked around and behind him, showing his physical response to being asked a question. "Who? Me?" This same gesture was used towards the end of the speech when he posed another question. This finished his speech, and story, off very adeptly. General evaluation comments referenced the calibre of speakers, opportunity to learn and improve, being inspired to emulate others and it how was good to be mindful of umms and ahhs. Regarding meetings overall, comments included 'it's always a pleasure'. The meeting content was noted as light-hearted while also credited with helping us all learn and all grow together. Next meeting 23 September 7-8.30pm. You are welcome.

11.01.2022 Table Topics question, on Zoom. Lotus position, demo?

10.01.2022 Yet another awesome Club meeting done and dusted. Excellent effort by our Toastmaster of the evening. Trent's theme of 'Spring' was suitably embellished with excellent tales, from historic times and today. Loved these, and so much more. You never know what you will learn at Toastmasters. If you're seeking more from life, and for your own personal or professional path, plan to turn up, speak up and enjoy the growth and development that follows the Toastmasters experience.... It's 'nothing too serious' at our Club, but damn effective at creating great communicators and leaders. In the interim, it's Spring. Blossom, bloom and challenge yourself to live a little more brightly and/or adventurously. Trent shared these Spring tales with us tonight. Toastmasters is an international organisation so it was appropriate to hear of how others celebrate the changing of the season. https://www.smithsonianmag.com//holi-festival-colors-mean/ https://en.m.wikipedia.org//Cooper%27s_Hill_Cheese-Rolling Seriously, you never know what you will discover at a Toastmasters meeting. You will be so busy learning from seeing others in action, and having a go yourself, that you won't have time to umm or ahh. Guests always welcome at Toastmasters. Find a club today.

10.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Apologies for an agenda not being sent out but rest assure there is still a meeting on this week! If there are any volunteers who would like to participate by doing some roles please let me know. See you all Wednesday night 7pm at Shed 19, Gladstone. Yours in Toastmasters, ... 08.01.2022 Valuable lessons - about living life and presenting online. Recommended viewing. Note staging, props, and varying positions in front of camera. Also offering great examples of good storytelling using tools like 'top and tail' and 'repetition'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9edim8P4TnY

07.01.2022 A member of our Club visited numerous folk today sharing news of an event this Sunday. 17 sites were attended. More than 20 people were spoken to. Question is .... will more than 20 people show up this Sunday? Who knows? Opportunity is knocking.... Why should a real conversation event become nothing more than a Facebook event? Will the Facebook community Like, comment or otherwise indicate interest? Will the actual in-person real community respond to the invitation, or call for action? As at 30 September, not even 8 individuals were found locally to support the cause. Pity. The strategy and atmosphere provided by this Cub has been observed to create and provide positive outcomes - often - in recent years. The event this Sunday is about real live conversation, and keeping a very good thing going to inspire and encourage others. Taking a risk this Sunday, fully intending to fall forward. Channelling attitude speaker Darren La Croix. He is quoted to have outspoken 25,000 speakers, from 14 countries, to have been awarded the title of World Champion. 'Ouch'. Maybe. Maybe not. World champion speakers are often inspiring, and certainly never dull or boring. May we all strive to be so positively determined. https://m.youtube.com/watch?noapp=1&v=FUDCzbmLV-0
