21.01.2022 Gladstone Area Water Board has made the following statement regarding an incident which occurred at Lake Awoonga on the evening of Thursday 3 September 2020: It is with great sadness that Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) has been advised of a marine incident at Lake Awoonga on the evening of 3 September 2020. This incident has resulted in the death of one man and injury to another man.... GAWB expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased man and wishes a quick recovery for the second person involved. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of both parties. GAWB has been assisting authorities throughout the emergency response and subsequent police investigation. Boynedale is a free, sustainable camp site popular for its natural beauty and views of Lake Awoonga. While Boynedale Bush Camp is free to use, we wish to remind all visitors of our ‘Conditions of Entry’ for anyone accessing the site. Importantly, a person must not:... Behave in a riotous, disorderly, indecent, offensive, threatening or insulting manner Cause nuisance or annoyance to other recreational users Destroy or damage any GAWB property Drive any vehicle off road and/or in unauthorised areas. The full list of conditions are available at the camp’s entry point. We want everyone to enjoy their time at Boynedale Bush Camp and create happy memories of their camping trip. Bushfire warning level: ADVICE Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises there is a grass fire in Wooderson, south of Calliope. You need to keep up to date and decide what actions you will take if the situation changes. Currently as at 2.10pm Tuesday 13 October, a grass fire is travelling from near the intersection of Marsh Road and Nellie Simpson Road towards Gladstone Monto Road, Wooderson. Gladstone Monto Road is closed to traffic near the Marsh Road intersection. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. Properties are not under direct threat at this time. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you believe you or your property is under threat. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO: Listen to your local radio station or visit the Rural Fire Service (RFS) website for regular updates. If you have a bushfire survival plan, refer to it now and be ready to follow it. The Lake Awoonga catchment a vast network of waterways that flow into Awoonga Dam - is an important natural resource that we all rely on for industry, irrigation, fishing, leisure, recreation and, of course, our drinking water.... This year, on World Environment Day, explore your local waterways ecosystems and think about one action you can take to help protect the quality of the water flowing through our waterways, for us and our animal friends. It's as simple as making sure your rubbish goes in the bin or disposing of hazardous chemicals correctly, and not down the drain. Remember, we all have a role to play in protecting our waterways.
