25.01.2022 Time to improve your technique

25.01.2022 Mighty Effort Gladstone Gropers. The club raised $867 for Reach Out and the important work in youth suicide prevention. We also clocked up plenty of laps for a good cause during March'21. Back to training tonight after the Easter break to burn of all that chocolate.

24.01.2022 Gladstone Aquatic Centre - Easter Opening Hours There will be no official Gropers sessions Easter Thursday night (1st April) and Easter Sunday (4th April). The next official session after Easter will be Tuesday 6th April 2021. Happy and Safe Easter Gropers!

24.01.2022 You can't stop this champion

23.01.2022 Glorious morning in the water for the 14 swimmers that enjoyed an expanded wheel session.

23.01.2022 You’ll meet lots of new friends when you swim

22.01.2022 Laps for Life - Thank You We cannot thank you enough for your hard work, dedication and support in Laps for Life. Gropers have made a huge difference to the lives of young people in Australia who are living with mental health difficulties. You’re legends.... Together the Laps for Life community swam more than 78,553 km: that’s like swimming around the earth, TWICE!! Thanks to your support, we’ve raised an incredible $2,187,608.54. These funds will mean that ReachOut can continue to provide trusted self-help information, peer-support programs and referral tools that save lives by helping young people be well and stay well. 22.01.2022 We wish our members competing at the Hervey Bay meet on Saturday, all the best and so does the local community. The club members are known for their camaraderie and social functions after the event. Enjoy the day and evening! https://www.frasercoastchronicle.com.au//humpback/3326545/

21.01.2022 Don't forget the AGM will be held this Sunday after training. We need a good attendance to reach our quorum! October 2017

20.01.2022 Our Newest Member based in Bilo - Nathan Tumaru had a very successful time at the State's. Nathan reports "had a great time at State champs, a few good swims and picked up 2 bronze medals 2 silver and one gold. Hope to come (to Gladstone) & get a session in before it gets too cold!" Congrats Nathan and thanks for flying the Gropers flag at the Champs.

20.01.2022 The coaches always tell us this...

19.01.2022 Gropers in camera this morning. Some great models for our professional photo shoot to support our brand refresh as part of our COVID recovery package couresty of Rio Tinto and NFP House. Great roll up and good to see some returning members in Trudy and Rick at a very comfortable morning in the water. Although the kick program from Coach Don was one from the bottom draw!

18.01.2022 Refreshing Sunday morning in the pool Coach Rod kept us moving with a power session with fins. No swimming next Sunday - ANZAC Day public holiday.... Hope you are practising for Barefoot Bowls on Friday afternoon 14 May 2021. Look forward to seeing as many Members and Friends as possible.

18.01.2022 Should you try a Different Stroke? Reminders and tips, adapted from Scott Bay's USMA article: Dip Your Toe In All strokes have gone through changes over the years, as have starts and turns. The only sure way to know if change is for you is to try it. Know the RulesJust because someone is doing something new at your pool or you see it in a competition doesn’t mean it is legal. Make sure any change you make adheres to the current rules. Consult the MSA Swimming Rules at mas...tersswimming.org.au Start SlowlyWhen adjusting to a new technique, make sure you’re doing it right before you try doing it fast. Believe it or not, there was a time when no one dolphin kicked off the wall in free, back, or breast. These innovations have led to faster times overall, but the development of that skill takes time. Be PatientMaking a gain by changing sometimes requires you to take one step back to take two (or more) steps forward. Keep the goal in mind but always remember that seeking improvement is a process. The change may be good, but the transition is hard. Examine the ResultsSometimes this is as easy as comparing times but other times you may just be looking for ways to be more comfortable, enjoy swimming more, or swim longer. It isn’t always about the clock. Do What’s Best for You You may notice very competitive swimmers doing grab starts or flutter kicks instead of dolphin kicks off walls. Does this mean that if they change they will be faster? Maybe - or maybe not. If you try something and it isn’t working, there’s nothing wrong with sticking with what you know and what has worked, especially if it’s better for you. I spoke with one of our best swimmers about her breaststroke, which had been her least competitive stroke and which she said felt awful. But then she said that she really doesn’t swim it that often and would rather spend her time and energy working on something else rather than trying to fix it. It was a great revelation to me. She didn’t want to spend a whole bunch of time on something that isn’t important to her. Sometimes you must let go of the idea that you need to be amazing at everything. In Masters Swimming old dogs can learn new tricks, but only if they really want to. See more

07.01.2022 "Three good friends went for a swim. The one who was fat wished she was thin. The one who was curvy wished she was clever. The one who was clever wished she swa...m better. The really great swimmer wished she was witty. The one who was witty wished she was pretty. All three friends thought the other two were just fine. If only they could let their own bright light shine. So throw on your swimsuit if you're fat or you're thin. Enjoy fun and friendship .... love the skin that you're in! " What a marvellous poem!
