24.01.2022 It's R U OK? Day, a reminder that every day is a day to start a conversation that could change a life. Today we're calling on Australians to learn what to say a...fter R U OK? so they can keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. There's more to say after R U OK? Learn what to say when listening with an open mind Learn what to say when encouraging action Learn what to say when checking in Learn how to continue a conversation that could change a life. When we know what to say next we can help someone open up and find pathways to support long before they're in crisis. Learn what to say next and help us move closer to our vision of a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide. Head to www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask

24.01.2022 #WaybackWednesday - Rokeby Fire Station, 1986. In the days when firefighters wore blueys into fires and on snow days!

23.01.2022 Police performed a dog-gone paw-some rescue in the dark last night when Doggo Ace got stuck in a ruff spot on the side of a cliff in Blackmans Bay! Doggo Ace... got stuck in a ruff spot after he took a wrong turn and slipped down a cliff, landing on a small ledge and feeling a little embarrassed. Our search and rescue officers went to Ace's aid and performed a dog-gone paw-some rescue to bring Ace safely back to his owner Michael. Ace eagerly thanked all involved with a tail wagging and lots of licking. ...No animals or humans were injured in the making of this adventure.

22.01.2022 A man evacuated his burning shack unharmed early this morning after he was woken by the sound of a smoke alarm activating. TFS volunteer crews from Great Lake, ...Deloraine, Bothwell and Brady’s Lake brigades were called to the fire on Jillett Road at Brandum just before 2am to find the shack fully engulfed. The fire started in the loungeroom when a wall behind the wood heater caught fire, destroying the 2-bedroom shack and a nearby ute. The owned changed the battery in his smoke alarm this week after remembering that daylight savings is the time of year recommended by fire services to change your smoke alarm batteries. The loungeroom was well alight when the occupant woke up. Given how quickly fire can move through a house, just seconds later could have meant the difference between life and death, or serious injury, said Regional Fire Investigator, Station Officer Adam Doran said. This incident is an example of the importance of having working smoke alarms installed in any room where you sleep. You can’t smell smoke when you are asleep, so you are relying on your other senses, such as your hearing, to alert you to a fire. Often smoke alarms in shacks can be forgotten and it’s important to ensure they are properly maintained. If you’re at your shack during these school holidays, pack some batteries before you go and replace them as soon as you get there. Even better, install smoke alarms with a 10-year lithium battery and make sure they are cleaned and tested regularly, Mr Doran said.

16.01.2022 Tasmania’s newest remote area firefighters are being put through their paces learning how to work safely in and around aircraft. The first cohort of 30 volunte...ers that were selected through a recent Expressions of Interest process are now training to enhance the State’s specialist remote area firefighting capability. The training will be completed during the spring months, with the volunteers adding to the existing personnel in the TFS, PWS and Sustainable Timber Tasmania before the summer season. Remote area firefighters access difficult terrain by helicopter or on foot, and use special light weight pumps or hand tools to protect our iconic natural assets or to fight bushfires before they spread and impact our cities, towns and critical infrastructure.

15.01.2022 We are honoured and grateful to have hosted Mitch McPherson at our fire station last night, where he gave an empowering speech raising awareness about mental he...alth and suicide, and sharing that it’s OK to not be OK. Members from our brigade, along with members from Orielton Volunteer FIRE Brigade and Dodges Ferry Fire Brigade were in attendance. Mitch spoke about his personal experiences being affected by suicide, about how he founded his organisation SPEAK UP Stay ChatTY, and some of the important work they do throughout Tasmania. Thank you Mitch for taking the time to tell us your story!

12.01.2022 What can we say? The #LachlanRATS are truly humbled for being one of a number of national recipients in the national News-Limited grant round. Earlier this year... #LachlanBrigade was greatly appreciative of amazing support by our local community through a concert as well as a fund-raising event at Sandown Village Nursing Home in Sandy Bay. The announcement late yesterday of funding to assist with improvement of the station was truly humbling. The thanks of the Brigade go to: Tasmania Fire Service - the Chief Chris, Acting Southern Regional Chief Dale and our hardworking District Officer in Pete. Craig Farrell - Local Member who assisted #YourBrigade in the process. The Mercury Newspaper - who are Tassie's paper and representative of News Ltd. Brigade members who worked on the grant process. TFS acting south regional chief Dale Rayner told The Mercury the station would assist in community safety during bushfire season. Any fire that comes towards the northern suburbs of Hobart from the Derwent Valley poses a risk to that area if they become large and out of control, he said. Lachlan Brigade play a very valuable role in that respect as they are able to respond to fires in their local community, keeping them small and out of the rugged terrain at the back of the Wellington Ranges. And let's thank Bill, Victor and Dave for being our models for The Mercury shoot. #ProudtobeaRAT #YourBrigade #OurValley #OurCommunity #OurPeople #TFSVolunteers

04.01.2022 Tasmania Fire Service has declared an end to the fire permit statewide from 2am tomorrow (Wednesday 31 March). This means that anyone in Tasmania intending to l...ight a private fuel reduction burn will no longer require a fire permit to do so. Even though permits are no longer required, landowners who plan to light burns on their property should: be mindful of the weather be prepared with an adequate water supply have access to firefighting equipment be physically capable consult with the owners of neighbouring properties, particularly those with vulnerable crops such as vineyards. This update brings the south in line with the north-west and north which has permit periods revoked in the past few weeks. At all times burning on private property is governed by local council by-laws which must be adhered to and environmental laws that govern smoke emissions. Property owners planning to burn on their land should visit fire.tas.gov.au for further information. Call 1800 000 699 to register their burn to prevent an unnecessary visit from a local brigade.
