The day is marked with food and laughter as friends and relatives gather to partake in the spirit of the day. This year it starts from March 28 and continues till the evening of March 29.

21.01.2022 We really do appreciate the support that we get from families. Thank you to the wonderful parent who was able to build our new bird cage on Sunday. Now Bluey and Bingo have room to fly. Today the children drew the birds noticing their colours and markings.

20.01.2022 Have you ever thought to yourself, just what exactly IS colour? Well, luckily physicist and chemist Dr Kyra Schwarz with ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Sci...ence is here to help us learn all about light, rainbows and colour! The researchers at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science are working towards a renewable energy future by developing and uncovering the materials that will allow us to more efficiently convert light into electricity and electricity into light. Sounds pretty good to us!

20.01.2022 Could you explain physics to a 5-year-old? To celebrate the new season of Imagine This, out now, we set that challenge to our host, Dr Niraj Lal! How do you think he did? https://ab.co/3wA9BSM

20.01.2022 We don't stress about the mess! Because through their eyes and actions (children who are actively learning through play) this is an organised restaurant kitchen. The bark chips all plated up are the many varieties of chips....I chose BBQ! Pause and you will hear what children are saying and doing!

18.01.2022 Teddy Bear Rescue 2020. Glandore Kindergarten has run this program for a number of years now. The idea of reusing things sits well with our commitment to sustainability. All the bears (as well as one koala who really wants to be a bear) have been sourced from OpShops and places where they were no longer loved to the end of the earth and back. These bears have been alone on shelves, buried at the bottom of storage boxes and/ or lost in cupboards. After being washed and dri...ed they have been in quarantine for the past month. On Monday and Wednesday they were each chosen by one of the children. So they will stay with us at kindergarten for the next couple of weeks and then go home to their new homes. Each night (at kindy) they will be able to keep each other company. Your childs bear has a name. The teachers used words and terms from our recent Music Program - Musical Muscles as inspiration for the names. So Tempo, Strawberry, Turn- about, Loud and Quiet (to name just a few) are already alongside the children as they learn, do, explore and enjoy a diverse range of kindy experiences. Thanks again to everyone who frequented the Op shops collecting and quarantining in readiness for this weeks adoptions and commitment ceremonies. See more

18.01.2022 Night Kindy was a huge success. Good night and sleep tight everyone. For the children who were able to come it was an experience that will be remembered. The weather was perfectly mild with the moon and stars in view. Thank you to the staff and parents who stood on boundary duty. To each family we appreciated your patience as we managed the slow farewell process (as a staggered collection). This proved to be a calm and sensible way to safely farewell the children. So apart from those two bears who again got ideas from the book...I have a bear! - all went well. Thank you too E for the use of your star projector.

17.01.2022 Some interesting Bird Bill facts The top and bottom parts of a birds bill are called mandibles. The upper bill or mandible is also called the maxilla.... All birds have their nostrils at the basal end of the top mandible, except for the New Zealand Kiwi where they are at the tip. The edges of the bill are especially hard and sharp and are called tomia, singular tomium The part where the two mandibles meet at the hinge of the bill is called the Commissure No birds chew their food though they will use their bill to tear chunks off or to crush lumpy items before swallowing them. Birds bills continue to grow throughout the birds lives, this is necessary to replace the wearing that inevitably occurs at the tips. When birds open their mouths it is the lower jaw that does most of the moving, most birds can move the upper jaw to some extent though only in a few groups like the parrots is it anywhere near as flexible as the lower jaw. Puffins have an extra bone in their jaws which allows them to open their bill and to keep both mandibles parallel. This allows them to hold a whole row of fish without the ones near the tip falling out. Flamingos use their bills as a sieve and plate just like a baleen whales to extract small algal filaments from the water. The large bills of birds like Toucans are hollow and much lighter than they look. Birds bills are very sensitive, especially at the tips. Birds like Curlews can open the tips of their bills deep in the mud without getting a mouthful of mud. The bills of some fish-eating birds have serrations along the edge to help them hold slippery fish. These are not real teeth. The largest bill in the world belongs to the Australian Pelican, Pelicanus conspicillatus, 34-47 cm Although a number of birds have upwards or downwards curving bill and a few like Crossbills have the tips curved to cross over each other, only the New Zealand Plover (Anorhynchus frontalis) has a bill curved to one side only (always to the right). The Sword-billed Hummingbird (Ensifera ensifera) has a bill longer than the rest of its body. Skimmers (Anhingidae) have their lower mandibles larger than the top ones. They fly with the lower mandible in the water and use it to flip fish up into the air where they can catch them. The muscular response which snaps shut the bill of an Avocet, when it is sifting the soft mud at the edge of the tide for small shrimps, is one of the fastest ever recorded in the animal kingdom. The bill of the Red-headed Woodpecker (Melanerpes erythrocephalus) hits the bark of a tree at about 21 km/h or 13 mph. The birds brain experiences a deceleration of about 10G every time this happens. The Black Woodpecker, Dryocopus martius, strikes with its bill against a tree between 8 and 12 thousand times a day. 15.01.2022 Today most of the last batch of bears went with their rescue people to their new homes. Several bears also enjoyed a huge banquet style meal at kindy. The service at this venue was as good as the extensive menu. Tapestry and Jeffrey (our bears) may well be feeling a little lonely.

11.01.2022 Let them help. Yes, it will take twice as long to do the dishes if your four-year-old is helping but a little investment now goes a long way in the future. Te...aching your child how to do the dishes by doing them together, prepares him for when he can do them on his own. Plus, when your child is allowed to help you, he feels valued. Those good feelings make him feel more connected at home and with you. In fact, research shows that kids who help at home dont find this work at all stressful, and actually feel higher levels of happiness. 04.01.2022 Learning from one another is what we do. You will see here a variety of movements that were part of these adventurous jumpers repertoires today and yesterday. Cannonballs, scissors and twisters were the names of a few. Great heights were reached. Today the children reviewed the photo captures from yesterday in order to try new or familiar moves. Many vestibular systems had a work out. Thanks Rita for being the SAFETY OFFICER. Welcome Spring. It is good to feel the warmth and see the blossoms all around.

04.01.2022 - : ASMS impacted by Flinders Uni Sturt Campus health advice. Staff and students at the Australian Science & Mathematics School (ASMS) are to work/...study from home on Monday 30 November. This is to allow anyone who visited the nearby Sturt Campus of Flinders University at any time from 13 November to 28 November to isolate and seek a COVID-19 test in line with SA Health requirements. There is no indication that any member of ASMS has COVID-19 or is a close contact of a confirmed case. Because of this ASMS does not need to close for deep cleaning at this time. However, due to the use of the Pantry and Café on Sturt Campus it is expected that many staff will be getting tested and isolating awaiting the result. Therefore the school will not open as normal tomorrow Monday 30 November. Students can contact teachers online if they need support. The school community has been informed.

01.01.2022 Be wary of books and bears. Books can "Give bears ideas!"said E. So despite the story of I HAVE A BEAR being read to the children who in turn covered their own bears eyes and blocked their bears ears there has been some pretend trouble in the night. We had forgotten about our own kindy bears Tapestry and Jeffrey who saw and heard the whole story. They paid particular attention to the section in the story where the bear cut off all the dollies hair. So now we MUST and DO lock up the scissors at night...We will keep you posted about what else happens. We may have to have a bear rating system in our library. What will be suitable and what will not be suitable! PROGRAM and Diary Dates out this week.
