25.01.2022 SMOKE ALERT Heads up Sunshine Coast. Coastal communities between Bundaberg and the Sunshine Coast may be impacted by smoke due to the fire on Fraser Island. If you suffer from a respiratory condition, keep medications close by. Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.

24.01.2022 Saturday 12th December the RFBAQ handed over a Landcruiser fire truck to Fassio Road Rural Fire Brigade. In Queensland we have 1,400 RFB’s and of them less than... 600 of them have one or more trucks. This is the first of 8 Landcruisers that are being given to Rural Fire Brigades without a truck and all have been funded by donations. The vehicle has been designed by volunteer firefighters in Queensland specifically for volunteer firefighters in Queensland and was manufactured by a Queensland company, Quikcorp Fire Engineering. Each Landcruiser with the suspension upgrade and fit out costs $120,000. Fassio Road Rural Fire Brigade is a Primary Producer brigade in the Mareeba Shire. The brigade has 13 firefighters and a total of 28 members. Current equipment is 6 mop up units and a trailer. Fassio Road RFB area incorporates the Hann Tableland National Park, which adjoins a large fruit and small cropping area to the north west of Mareeba. The Brigade is active in supporting mitigation strategies with the associated landowners. Fassio Road is also highly active in supporting Paddy's Green and Biboohra RFB's as the closest neighbours, responding to fires and contributing to planned burns. The keys to the vehicle were handed over by the new local RFBAQ Rep, Barry Child and the long time local RFBAQ Rep who has just stood down John Thomson to the 1st Officer of Fassio Road RFB, Timothy Lovell. At the same handover ceremony the local Rural Fire Service Inspector Neil Parker awarded Max Hubner, 1st Officer of Paddy’s Green RFB his QFES Diligent and Ethical Service medal and the National Medal. (Max was pictured with his granddaughter Emily and Neil Parker) Inspector Parker also used this as an opportunity to sit under a tree and ask brigade members what additional equipment they needed. The RFBAQ are lobbying the Fire Service and Government to make fit for purpose Landcruiser fire trucks available to brigades in addition to the currently supplied Ford Ranger utes with mop up units.

16.01.2022 And now, for some Happy (Valley) news Urangan Point Primary School grade 3 students made these beautiful cards for the crews working hard at Happy Valley. They now take pride of place at Happy Valley Rural Fire Brigade HQ. Smiles all round

16.01.2022 There are some people you should call in an emergency, and others you definitely should not! You should always phone Triple Zero (000) immediately in an emerge...ncy. If you see smoke or fire, regardless of the size, do not assume someone else will alert QFES. Nearly all large fires were once little fires and we consider these an emergency act quickly as time is of the essence! Remember, do NOT phone your local Fire Warden, Rural Fire Service brigade or Fire & Rescue station. These firefighters may not be in the station and this delays any response to the incident. The number to ring is Triple Zero (000).

14.01.2022 Nick is a Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) firefighter. He is from Victoria, and is a Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Man. The Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people and their cult...ure is deeply rooted in the soul of Victoria and stretches across millennia. Nick’s connection to Country and Indigenous culture through platforms such as storytelling, dance, and song was removed at a fairly young age, however he holds the belief that the culture is alive and well through social media and strong ties with other Aboriginal Peoples. His connection with his culture may have been removed at a young age, but he feels a sense of peace when he is in Country; a deeply-held sense of being something greater than himself. This striking sense of peace is one reason Nick would like to see more people working hand in hand with Country, as opposed to trying to change it.

13.01.2022 Fire Brigades are currently very active. When you see red and blue flashing lights - slow down. When you see smoke over a road - slow down or find an alternat...e route. Last fire season a fire truck was hit by a car speeding through dense smoke. Help keep firefighters safe and don't be a clown; slow down!

13.01.2022 Happy International Volunteer Day! A BIG thank you to all our volunteers for everything you do for Queensland communities.

12.01.2022 WORLD TSUNAMI AWARENESS DAY Did you know For some Australian coastal areas, a major tsunami can impact the shoreline at ten metres above sea level and t...ravel inland for up to a kilometre Australia faces many risks, but luckily, tsunamis are rare events for us. However, with any risk, we must be prepared. We've even published the Tsunami Guide for Queensland, which reminds us that Queensland does not need to be close to the source to feel its impacts: https://bit.ly/34z6aQh The good news is, there are steps you can take to reduce risk to yourself and your family, whether you are home or holidaying near the coastline. Just like with bushfires and storms, you should: have an evacuation plan have emergency and evacuations kits ready to go check up on your insurance policies Our friends at the Queensland Reconstruction Authority have more information about how you can #GetReady https://bit.ly/2G5odUF Sumatra Tsunami 2004 (Bureau of Meteorology)

06.01.2022 Today marks the summer solstice the longest day of the year! Make the most of it by preparing your emergency for this storm season, just like this one

05.01.2022 Lachlan is a Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) Auxiliary Firefighter. He is a proud Aboriginal man, with his bloodline connecting him to Wiradjuri Country. Lachlan ...was born and raised on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), the land of the Quandamooka people. He considers Minjerribah his home, as it is where he has been embraced. He is passionate about caring for Country and is always upset seeing land or living things damaged or destroyed especially sacred sites of significance to Aboriginal people. He says that if all we do is destroy or take and not give back or allow time to heal, Mother Earth will eventually stop flowing, stop growing, stop breathing, stop feeding and then there won't be anything left. ‘If everyone were more conscious of this connection, people may understand that we only have one shot at taking care of the Earth we are connected to. Caring for Country should be the first thought for everything we do. If we take care of the land, the land will take care of us.’
