25.01.2022 Despite the fire event our region experienced The Paynesville Classic Boat Rally 2020 is happening and we’re turning this years event into a huge community cele...bration and fundraiser. Paynesville was completely untouched by fire and passage to Paynesville is totally fire free. Not just for boat enthusiasts, Rally 2020 features music, entertainment for kids, food stalls, vendors, cruises, demonstrations and our local Paynesville traders! Mark feb 29th & March 1st in your diary for a weekend of celebrations supporting East Gippsland. Oh, and if you know a musician, entertainer, stall holder, boating business, people who can give demonstrations or classes, we’re really ramping it up and would love to hear from them.
23.01.2022 Have your say, Transport Vic is conducting an online survey for waterway users of East Gippsland to suggest improvements for our water based facilities. This is... an opportunity for everybody to express concerns about all aspects of boating including safety, jetties, navigation and law enforcement. It only takes a few minutes to jump online and make a difference. https://getinvolved.transport.vic.gov.au//victorian-recrea

16.01.2022 Hello Members, please don't forget that the GLCBC AGM and Committee elections are on Tomorrow. Please follow the below link for time and details.
14.01.2022 We have had some very distressing reports of dolphins being repeatedly harassed by vessels and jetskis. Whilst we all love to enjoy our summers on the water, pl...ease respect the dolphins are wild animals and need to go about their feeding, resting and calving in an undisturbed state. In Victoria, please do not approach dolphins within 100m if you're on a powered OR unpowered vessel, and if you're on a jetski please do not approach within 300m. If you find it hard to read distances on the water here's a little helpful hint... if you're on a jetski and you cannot visualise approximately 100 jetskis in between you and the dolphins, you're too close...if you cant visualise four planes, you're too close! For more information on the approach regulations please visit https://marinemammal.org.au/approachdistance/ In Victoria, if you see a sick, injured or stranded dolphin please call the Whale and Dolphin Emergency Hotline on 1300 136 017 Please share widely to raise awareness.

09.01.2022 It seems like forever since our members stood around the BBQ, tongs in one hand and a glass of whatever in the other; chatting away around the BBQ with the aroma of onion sizzling away. Well, we can sort that out quick smart, it's time for a BBQ.

05.01.2022 https://glcbc.org.au/proddetail.php A birthday party for everyone who missed out last year, thanks to Covid Last year was long and hard thanks to Covid and soc...ial isolation. There are so many club members who had special birthdays last year and spent them quietly at home with their allowed five guests from one other single household, or remotely celebrating with loved ones via a zoom session. Our thinking, to correct this social injustice is too make good on all the missed out birthdays and have one great big catchup birthday party for all. The plan is for all of our members to meet at the Nicholson River jetty and Parkland facilities, sing happy birthday to each other and enjoy a piece of great big birthday cake. Cake, hats and baloons will be provided, Members are invited to bring some barbecue meat, nibbles and whatever takes your fancy to drink. Fun times will be had and we hope to see you all there for a belated happy birthday to our members. The Nicholson River parkland can be accessed easily by Car or Boat. When: Saturday 20th February 2021 @ 12:00 midday Where: Nicholson River Parkland (Princes Hwy & River intersection) Cost: $0 BYO Meat and Drinks Event Hosts: Grant Ottaway 0437 423 222 RSVP: NA Mustering: 10:00 AM at the Northern Yellow 5 Knot marker Paynesville Communications: VHF 72
05.01.2022 Australia Day 2021 on the Tambo River. Blessed with sensational weather, a whole bunch of GLCBC members visited the Parkland facilities at the Harry Clues Memor...ial Park on the Tambo River, Johnsonville to celebrate Australia Day 2021. Socialising around the beaut barbecue facilities, members enjoyed a wonderful barbecue lunch chatting amongst each other after a long separation due to Covid. Later in the day members participated in the GLCBC annual Thong Toss and this year was won by new member Jon Richardson who picked up a $100 gift voucher defeating the reigning champion Doug Gillickson from the previous year. To further add to our games themed day a second competition the jellybean count was won by foundation member Tony Dodson. The members and committee of the GLCBC would like to extend a huge thank you to the local community at Johnsonville for making us feel so welcome at their beautiful parkland and boating facilities on the Gippsland Lakes, we look forward to many visits in the future. https://glcbc.org.au/proddetail.php?prod=australia_day_2021

04.01.2022 Supporting the research into the Burrnan Dolphin illness Most Gippsland locals are aware of the sudden illness that has been affecting the health of our local B...urrnan dolphin population. Regretfully this condition has resulted in the deaths of a number of these beautiful creatures, and many more are suffering. The GLCBC has answered the call from the Marine Mammal Foundation for financial support, today the GLCBC has started a fundraiser calling on all GLCBC members to spare a few dollars to help donate towards this cause. What have we done? 1) Initial donation The committee of the GLCBC has started off with a $200.00 donation to the MMF, this initial contribution, along with any other funds raised is earmarked towards this specific cause (The research program directly into the local Gippsland Burrnan dolphins). This donation falls in line with our club charter to support local causes, either commercial, personal and environmental. 2) Fundraiser The committee of the GLCBC called for all GLCBC club members to spare a few dollars and help support this important cause. Members were able to donate at our AGM and committee elections that were held on the 12th of December. A donation bucket was available for any cash donations, furthermore, any members who were unable to attend on the day were able to email our [email protected] and make a donation via EFT into our club bank account. 3) IAE (Club supporter) matching donations dollar for dollar Local business and supporter of the GLCBC "IAE" has matched "dollar for dollar" all funds donated by GLCBC financial club members, plus matching the $200 upfront GLCBC committee donation. Total funds raised GLCBC initial donation $200.00 GLCBC members donations $80 IAE match dollar for dollar donation $280 Total funds raised to support the Burrnan dolphins $560.00

01.01.2022 GLCBC Member's photo competition As many members within our club are rather handy with a camera, we have decided to inspire and bring out the photographer in us... all. The GLCBC will be holding a photo competition and will be inviting all financial members of the GLCBC to join in for a bit of fun, and hopefully win an awesome prize of a $100 GLCBC merchandise voucher. This is how it works and here are the rules. 1) Each member can submit up-to 5 separate photographs. 01.01.2022 #FestivalUpdate The time has come for us to make the incredibly complex decision on the future of the Australian Wooden Boat Festival 2021. We have tried our b...est to explore all possible avenues, but at this time it is not viable to run a festival without seriously risking public safety. We are incredibly disappointed that we cannot give our boat owners and the general public an event to look forward to. Therefore we are announcing today the cancellation of our festival for February 2021 BUT look forward to 10-13 February 2023!
