10.01.2022 Bexsero Vaccines Now Available - BEXSERO is a meningococcal group B vaccine. BEXSERO is given to individuals from 2 months of age and older to help protect against disease caused by bacteria called Neisseria meningitidis group B.... Meningococcal disease is a rare but potentially devastating infection that can progress rapidly causing serious disability. It is caused by a bacterial infection of the blood and/or membranes that line the spinal cord and brain. It can progress rapidly, beginning with symptoms such as fever and irritability that are easily mistaken for a common cold. The distinctive meningococcal rash is an advanced symptom of blood infection, which may or may not occur. Meningococcal B is the most common strain in NSW. The B-strain of meningococcal disease has caused the most cases of the infection in New South Wales this year but a vaccine for the illness still isn't eligible under the Immunisation Schedule. NSW Health has revealed 15 of the 21 cases to date this year were meningococcal B. It comes after NSW Health issued a warning this week encouraging the public to be aware of symptoms. Patients will need a pre-vaccination phone consultation which can be booked online, and the doctor will organise a separate appointment time to attend the clinic for the vaccination. This is to ensure all patients are screened before attending the clinic to ensure patient and staff safety. Visit our website on: https://www.glebemedicalcentre.com.au/ Phone consultations can be booked via the tab below. *https://bit.ly/2KPsN8n*
