23.01.2022 With autumn finally here the seasons have transitioned from hot, sunny days, into the serenity of a cool, calm autumn. But what does this mean for our health and our bodies? There is a noticeable briskness in the air, a change in sunlight, and that familiar feeling of introspection that comes with the shift from summer to autumn. With this change in the weather Ive begun to see more patients with Lung System issues such as colds, flu and allergies, and others seeking treatm...ent to assist them through a letting go process often presenting as stress and anxiety. The Lungs in Chinese medicine open out into the nose; the sinus and bronchial air passages. The Lungs are connected to the surface of the body and are the first line of defence for the immune system. Low immunity? Constantly catching colds or flus? Dry, dull, rough or itchy skin? These symptoms could be a sign of weak Lung Qi (pronounced chi). Dealing with Attachment: An indication of good Lung Qi is having a good relationship with attachment. The art of letting go. Just like the breath. Learning to let go is an essential part of being a human being and while it can be distressing it is completely necessary for our gut health and vitality. Hoarding possessions clogs up the Lung Qi. Equally loosing possessions constantly can be an indication of weak Lung Qi as people find it hard to attach to anything or anybody. Want to improve your Lung Qi? Sounds simple but breathing deeply helps the lungs. If the Lung Qi is stagnant (feelings of frustration, anger, irritability), it will be difficult to get a full breath. Standing up and twisting from side to side, with arms floppy helps to get deeper breath. Spices, onions, garlic, chilli and warm, nourishing foods support the Lung Qi and help to break up phlegm and excess mucous. Support the immune system by moving with the seasonal change, slowing down and getting more sleep. As always if we can support you with an acupuncture session please do get in touch. https://glebepointacupuncture.com.au/online-bookings

09.01.2022 In Western Medicine the body is seen as a machine, you try to fix a broken part or take it out. In Chinese Medicine, the body is seen as a garden - if the leaves are wilting or turning brown, you examine the condition of the soil, see if the plant is getting enough water and sun, or if the roots are being impinged upon - you dont just paint the leaves green . - Between Heaven and Earth A Guide to Chinese Medicine
09.01.2022 Whats for dinner? How about QI SOUP? This soup never ceases to surprise me in how effective it is in boosting energy (qi), and making people feel more alive, m...otivated and energised. There are few things that make this soup soo good for you! To start, chicken when cooked for hours is great source of easy to digest protein, and according to Chinese Medical theory, chicken tonifies the blood. The broth that comes from cooking the bones of chicken for hours helps boosts immunity, promotes gut repair, and helps the digestive system to better absorb nutrients. In this soup, I also add in quite a bit of rice which makes it almost like a Congee. Congee and well cooked rice, in Chinese medicine, help support energy, and neutralise and strengthen digestive system (which is especially important in winter, as it can easily get a little flat, sluggish or lack luster). The onion, garlic and ginger all help warm the body, promote yang, and invigorate the digestive system. The root vegetables are great in combination with the chicken to support and stabilise blood sugar, reduce choccie cravings and stablise our energy! #winter #soup #traditionalfood #seasonalfood #immunehealth #guthealth #tcm #ancientwisdom #diettherapy #foodismedicine #theacupuncturistskitchen

07.01.2022 Amid these uncertain times many of us may be noticing a sense of underlying stress. Our physical body and emotions are intertwined. Acupuncture can help to rebalance our emotional and physical bodies creating calm, supporting immunity, and building resilience to stress and disease. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, each organ is connected with a certain emotion. When we feel out of balance on an emotional level, it may have certain effects on a corresponding organ system. TCM looks to not only treat the physical symptoms a patient may be experiencing but also the emotional aspects.

02.01.2022 Interesting Chinese Medicine perspective on how to help combat a virus....
01.01.2022 It takes an average of 3 years and 5 doctors for a person to get a proper diagnosis of an autoimmune disease. I just wish more people understood what an autoimmune disease is. It is not a cold or the flu, you will never get better, and no, not even a nap will help. Just eating a salad and hitting the gym wont slim your face or get the pounds off. Sleeping 10 hours doesnt leave you well rested, ever. Last minute changes in plans because that just got ran over feeling neve...r makes appointments, just walks in whenever you arent ready. Achy joints, muscles and bones, dry skin, breaking hair, mood swings, and depression are just the tip of the iceberg. You are also prone to having multiple autoimmune diseases. Some of you will take the time to read this entire post and react. Please, in honor of someone who is fighting Gastroparesis, Sjogrens, Scleroderma, Hashimoto Disease, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Sarcoidosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hepatitis, Raynaulds Syndrome, Diabetes, Celiac, Crohns, Ulcerative Colitis, Pemphigus, SPS, MS, PBC, Psoriatic Arthritis or CIDP. And I will add CFS Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Those of us who have experienced an autoimmune disease personally or as a carer know only too well of the devastating debilitation these cause.
