The lake is home to ancient mound springs and an important breeding and feeding ground for thou...sands of native and migratory birds who come from as far away as Siberia. The lake is part of the Ramsar-listed Paroo River wetlands which are fed by the Paroo River, the only remaining free-flowing river in the Murray Darling Basin.

07.01.2022 Glenhope Station White Cliffs, Outback NSW Unexpected detour but well worth it, White Cliffs is rich in red dirt and opal fossicking, its a small quaint litt...le town and the locals are so friendly, the pub does a good meal to. We based ourselves out at Glen Hope Station, 15km out of town, which was great as the town caravan park looked packed out almost every night and with two toddlers on board the more space the better Glen Hope was a short drive on a gravel track which we had no dramas getting in or out and they offer hot showers and toilets, rain water, fire pits and can you believe it power yep power for a small fee $20 a night for the whole family, they even top your firewood up every day so you really have to do nothing other than enjoy the insane sunsets and the silence. Rick and Honor who own the Station are fantastic people super relaxed and willing to have a chat about how the place is run, as its still a operating Sheep Station, they have two young kids who our kids fell in love with so it was endless play for everyone. We prefer Station Stays, low cost or free camping over caravan parks anyway we have found this great site called Outback Beds who provide a list of all Stations around Australia who are providing to travelers and what they have to offer. White Cliffs we actually managed to find opals, well Opal rock but it was a bloodily good find and made us all excited. Who honestly new Australia actually makes up 95% of the Opal industry in the world. Now experiencing how easy it really is to find Opal in places like this definitely a thrill for us Mr R was the one who found it so can and does take all the credit
