14.01.2022 LIFE ISN'T FAIR: LESSONS FROM ROBBIE FARAH By Des Yaninen NRL Legend Robbie Farah played for the West Tigers club for 13 years. He won them a grand final in 20...05 against Thurston's Cowboys and was the top Player in the whole NRL in his position, winning the Dally M award for Hooker of the year for several years. He served as Captain of the Club for 7 years and led the team to many victories. He developed and mentored younger players. He was loyal, refusing lucrative multi million dollar contracts to remain with the Tigers. Despite his sacrifice and contribution to that Club, he had a fallout with his coach and was dumped to the reserve grade this year, regardless of being NSW's best Hooker and playing Origin in 2016. Last Sunday he was officially farewelled from the club. After the ceremony, he climbed up the score board and sat there all by himself, reflecting on his life. He had been used and dumped by the organization he had worked so hard for. He was a victim of the system. LESSON 1: PEOPLE WILL USE YOU Many of us work so hard at our jobs, giving it our all, but at the end of the day, we too may be unceremoniously dumped like Robbie was. Life isn't fair. Most people around you are just concerned about themselves, and will dump you once they have gotten what they want from you. LESSON 2: PRIORITIZE RELATIONSHIPS Learn to prioritize your relationships. Put your family first. They will never abandon you. Stay loyal to the people who have remained loyal to you through your struggle. And when things are going well, never look down on those in lesser positions than you. You may need them one day. LESSON 3: HAVE A PLAN B Finally, unlike other NRL Stars who are uneducated and unqualified, Robbie is probably the smartest. He is the only player with a Bachelor's degree in Economics and will easily secure a high paying white collar job if he chooses to after footy, or establish a million dollar business and grow it better than other failed ex NRL player businessmen. He is qualified.
