24.01.2022 Veterans Cricket Australia (VCA) Newsletter: June 9, 2020. Nationals Update. Hello again to all Veterans Cricketers and Supporters.... The Nationals: Your VCA Board had a Teleconference Meeting this morning, where amongst other things, we discussed the current standing of the Veterans Cricket National Championships. The Tasmanian Veterans Cricket 70’s Organising Committee have made the difficult decision to put to the National 70’s Age Committee to recommend to the VCA Board that this years scheduled 70’s Nationals at Launceston be postponed to November 2021. We will monitor the Border Closures and National and State Health Authorities guidelines over the next few weeks in an effort to get some Interstate Tournament on the mainland for the 70’s Age Group before the end of the year. The 50’s and 60’s National Age Group Committees are still keeping our options open on the running of their National Championships for as long as possible. The final decision will also be dependent upon the opening of State borders and Health Authorities. We have to be conscious of the lead time needed for organisation of Championships, but once again we are keen to have Tournaments of some sort played. The Organisers of the 60’s Championships, scheduled for the Sunshine Coast in September, are considering a switch to a date in November/December if required. We will also provide whatever assistance we can to Veterans Women Cricket in their attempts to have their Tournament played in November. As soon as decisions are made on all our Nationals, you will be notified. Thank you for your patience. International Tours: There has been no Official decision on the 60’s World Cup, but with the doubt over the opening of International borders, a postponement until November 2021 seems inevitable. New Zealand are keen for matches in the first few months of 2021 and we will continue to promote those opportunities across the 3 Men’s Age Groups. The 50’s World Cup has been rescheduled for South Africa in March 2022. Andrew Knight and the National 50’s Age Committee are currently working on other International opportunities over the next 12 months. On behalf of Veterans Cricket Australia, keep well, and we look forward to getting back on the field asap. David Head, President. VCA Email: [email protected] www.veteranscricketaustralia.com.au

07.01.2022 REST IN PEACE Friday, 24th April 2020 This message to Yarra Valley Over 60's players Tom and Arthur Steele was sent by Yarra Valley Vice President, Bill Dobson, on Thursday, 23rd April 2020.... "Hello Tom and Arthur, On behalf of your team mates at Yarra Valley I would like to let both of you know we are thinking of you today after losing four of your police colleagues in the traffic tragedy yesterday. Your service in the job is appreciated by all of us." Tom Steele sent the following response to the Yarra Valley Club. "The thoughts and sentiments from members of our Yarra Valley Cricket Team are very much appreciated. My flag flies at half mast and will do so until tomorrow morning. Underneath the flag is the Gallipoli Rose, RSL Rose and the Angela Taylor Rose, (named after the Policewoman who was killed in the Russell Street bombing). It is the pinkish one in the photograph and it is very fitting it should stand tall and proud at the moment and in bloom. Once again Thank You. Kindest Regards, Tom". Also, Arthur Steele sent the following message: "Thanks Bill - such a tragic incident and we are all still coming to terms with it. Really appreciate the message from you and the team - Arthur"

05.01.2022 Yarra Valley Over 60's v Benalla After Match Speeches Sunday, 23rd February 2020 Lords Reserve, Mansfield

01.01.2022 HAPPY MOTHER"S DAY The Yarra Valley Veterans Cricket Club wishes all Mothers a Very Happy Mother's Day. You deserve nothing but the best, today and every day!

01.01.2022 MATCH REPORT: BENALLA V YARRA VALLEY Sunday, 23rd February 2020 This report was provided by Yarra Valley Captain Bill Dobson.... Yarra Valley played against Benalla on Sunday at the beautiful Mansfield ground. It was a good batting pitch and an extremely fast outfield, once it beat the field it would be 4 runs. We had 11 and Benalla had 13 players so the opposition Captain Trevor Saker offered us a player, sometimes the opponent will supply a player to the other team who is a battler who can’t bowl, can’t bat, and can’t field but not on this occasion. Trevor Saker offered to play with Yarra Valley, so we had Trevor Selby and Trevor Saker opening the bowling, a great opening attack that took early wickets. Benalla batted deep with most players getting runs, after 40 overs they scored 5/201. Yarra Valley lost Les Hutchings early but then Eric Glazner batted beautifully to make his 40 retired off 29 balls, Gary Semple also batted well to make 32. Trevor Selby made a few runs but couldn’t time the ball off the bat as well as he would have liked. Eric and Gary set up the game by making their runs quickly to try to chase down Benalla’s 200 plus, but the middle order crashed with only Johnny King making runs towards the end, Yarra Valley fell 29 runs short scoring 8/172. Man of the match awards: Eric Glazner of Yarra Valley and Peter Jacobsen of Benalla Photos: A few photos of the picturesque Lords Reserve Oval. Report from Bill Dobson, Captain for the day.
