25.01.2022 This morning was too good not to get out and enjoy the morning after the rain earlier this week. We grabbed the bikes and headed south along the bike track which almost on our door step. Look at the gems that are virtually one step or two steps off the best bike track in the world. Lucky us. OK one of us may have been a tad late to start work today but it was worth it. Oh the excitement There were 2, NOW now there are 3 all in Queensland and we miss them dearly Clair Broadrick All plans off this year. Stay safe and stay smart at home......... Like all we have temporarily closed, bunkering down with board games, cooking, reading and gardening. Looking back Easter 2019 at Glen Ayr and the fun and delightful squeals of finding eggs throughout the garden and then to... discover them them under the shredded paper rabbit !!!! .Ooh the excitement of an Easter Egg hunt. 14.01.2022 Today was one of our prouder days, giving back to the wonderful community we live in. In January this year we here at Glen Ayr Coastal Retreat Thirroul decided to give 10% of all new bookings between January and June to a bushfire related charity. It now seems a very long time ago and our world has changed considerably, but we helplessly watched in fear and absolute worry as our friends and family scattered across our country were being evacuated, loosing homes, livestock a...nd businesses. It was a fear not experienced before. Our dear friends and former next door neighbours Alice and Warren who now reside in the beautiful hills west of Moruya were evacuated 4 times, they called themselves Climate Change Refugees. We initially thought send the donation down that way. Warren who is also a volunteer fire- fighter with the Mogenduera RFS worked tirelessly from November through to February. He said that our own local RFS service Bulli worked side by side with their crews during the firestorms in January. So this morning Jarrah and I dropped past to say hello and pass on our thanks and a donation. Due to lockdowns and the world as we knew it changed in March we closed our doors and our donation was only a small percentage of what we hoped. We are ever grateful for the wonderful and community minded women and men who stand on the frontlines. We respect and thank you. Donna, Andrew and Jarrah Glen Ayr Coastal Retreat Thirroul. And yes what a surprise my old primary school mate Tone Lac was there to hand the cash over to. 10.01.2022 Like everywhere, we are in a bone dry drought. It breaks my heart to watch our garden wilt and wither. Day by day the grass browns around our massive Cedar tree but we know water is needed elsewhere. We will do our very best to keep the place spick and span but sadly our gardens are feeling this drought. Pumping water into the grass does not make sense for the sake of creating ‘lush’. Water is precious and we can bring the grass back when rain finally comes. While the grass may be receding our hospitality and Christmas cheer will brighten your stay. There are a few openings remaining in January. Contact us to book in.

04.01.2022 Our house popped on Lost Wollongong today asking where it was. Their great-great-great grandmother Mary Locke Langley was the host of the boarding house. Happy to say it still survives and thrives when many are disappearing in the area. This house started life as a boarding house for the railway workers in the 1880s -90s, then for holiday makers (like the ones in this photo) until our family bought it in the 1940’s and raised 8 children. We have been hosting visitors for... 7 years in the garden guest room. We are open for business again and look forward hosting you. To think it has survived 2 pandemics. 02.01.2022 We put out fresh water this morning in our 3 bird baths plus filled a few buckets around the garden. The magpies flew in straight away, They are thirsty and hungry. This little act helps a lot, where you can put our water. Sending out the biggest cheers to our fire fighters, volunteers, food deliverers near and far.
