20.01.2022 Last summer's bush fires taught us some terrifying lessons about the importance of being prepared and having a plan. Learn from the experience of others this bush fire season.

17.01.2022 Please help us to welcome the most recent addition to our brigade. Our COVID crew completed their final assessment over the last weekend, their training has taken slightly longer than usual due to the current restrictions. We are very glad to have them join our dedicated and resilient team adapting to a very modified training method. Pictured below are our newest members: Stuart, Paul, Michael, Albany, Lachlan, Benjamin and Ossie. ... Congratulations everyone.

15.01.2022 Great to be at Glenbrook/Lapstone Rural Fire Brigade tonight for their monthly meeting. It was an honour to present 4 Life Memberships and 48 NSW Bush Fire Emer...gency, Premier’s Citations to well deserving Members who along with so many Emergency Services and supporting agencies worked tirelessly to protect communities locally and across NSW during 2019-2020. Congratulations to Captain Chris and the crew from Glenbrook-Lapstone RFB. RFS Blue Mountains District NSW RFS Greater Sydney Area Command #nswrfs #capable #engaged

15.01.2022 Please be advised that there will be smoke in the Lower Blue Mountains this week and potentially into the weekend. There are multiple hazard reduction or prescription burns taking place in the Blue Mountains including the one below in Springwood and in the Upper Mountains near Medlow Bath.

15.01.2022 We would like to congratulate the 12 members who passed their Basic Firefighter assessment this morning from Blaxland, Mt Riverview and Glenbrook/ Lapstone. All were deemed competent and ready to serve and protect our communities as firefighters. As the 2020-21 fire season is only weeks away, this is a great addition to our team. You may recognise our two newly qualified members, Brendan and Gina. ... Brendan and Gina have been our local pharmacists for over 20 years. Brendan has ridden hundreds of kilometres for charity, serviced our community for over 25years professionally, Gina has supported him the entire way and now they have found the time to volunteer with us. Brendan has told us that he found the training and assessment quite professional. He is also looking forward to the community service. Congratulations and we look forward to working with you all!

13.01.2022 Yesterday our latest intake of new members all passed their Basic Firefighter (BF) assessment.

13.01.2022 Being a volunteer firefighter it is important to retrain and refresh our skills. Tonight we are conducting the theory component for our hydraulics training tomorrow morning. Mentorship is an important aspect of our training regime. We often utilise the resident knowledge to give context to our newer members. This can include fire history, tips and tricks, four wheel driving, navigation, hydraulic systems and more.

12.01.2022 PREPARING YOUR HOME Getting ready for a bush fire may be easier than you think. The top five things to do: 1. TRIM overhanging branches. 2. MOW your grass and have a cleared area around your home.... 3. REMOVE materials that can burn around your home. 4. CLEAR and remove leaves and debris from your gutters and around your home. 5. PREPARE a sturdy hose that reaches all around your home. Get more top tips at www.myfireplan.com.au

12.01.2022 Whilst we hope that the weather remains this moist, we are still getting ready and honing our skills for the fire season. Recently we have been able to conduct a broad range of brigade training from AED/CPR training to local area familiarisation. Two weeks ago, one of our members taught us how to use the AED’s fitted on all of our trucks. This is his day job and we are very thankful to have a diverse range of expertise in our brigade. ... We were training our newer members in navigation and our local area. Yesterday, you may have seen a few fire trucks driving around town for a radio and navigation exercise.

11.01.2022 Today 2 of our members passed their Basic Firefighter assessment with Blaxland and Mt Riverview RFS.

10.01.2022 Yesterday our brigade was honoured to be presented with a $10,000 cheque from the Glenbrook Panthers. Funds were raised during the fire season by the Panthers Group and football players. We would again like to thank our community for being so generous.

08.01.2022 This Saturday 10am-2pm Blaxland Rural Fire Brigade are hosting a Get Ready event. This is a brilliant opportunity for community members to have questions answered, get help planning and updating their Bushfire Survival Plan. For more information see the event link below.

08.01.2022 This morning 3 three of our members, along with members of neighbouring Blaxland and Mt Riverview brigades assisted Blue Mountains Police Rescue and Paramedics. Yesterday afternoon a local bushwalker was unfortunately injured near the Florabella Pass walk in Blaxland. By the time paramedics were on scene yesterday, it was too late for helicopter extraction. Paramedics stayed with the man overnight until he could be winched out by the Toll Ambulance Rescue helicopter this mor...ning. Local RFS volunteers and Police rescue carried the man to the helicopter winch point early this morning. *The patient has been removed from the winch photo for their privacy and we all hope for a speedy recovery.
