24.01.2022 A very busy afternoon with a fast moving grass fire on Mcphee Road. With hard work of Glencoe, Ballogie, Kingaroy and Wooroolin Urban and two firefights aircraft. We managed to contain and extinguish the fire. Burning approximately 40acres. With Very High Fire Danager please be very careful with any open fire. It would be a very good idea to not have fires in these current conditions.

21.01.2022 Once again our thoughts and prayers go out to our NSW colleagues. Another NSW firefighter has died and 2 more injured with serious burns East of Albury. It is believed there truck was hit with extreme winds overturned. The conditions on the fire grounds and what they are facing in Catastrophic fire dangers must be overwhelming. Our thoughts and support is with them.

20.01.2022 Glencoe responded to a bushfire on Coverty Road Coverty this afternoon. Not the way we want to see 2019 out. But we all worked hard to contain the fire. Crews will be returning tomorrow to strengthen containment lines. Stay safe out there guys.... Happy New Year from all at Glencoe.

19.01.2022 Glencoe has been chosen to receive a wonderful donation from Sammi Claire Artwork. Through a group of artist Supporting Aussie Firefighters... We are so honoured to receive this beautiful piece of artwork from Sammie Claire. It will raise much needed funds to help support our Rural Fire Brigade and our community. Keep an eye on our page for our upcoming fundraiser. Thank you Sammi Claire, From all members of Glencoe Rural Fire Brigade.... I am pleased to share the Firefighters helmet I have finished painting that will be auctioned off. This little project I volunteered to be part of with other artists was to use our creative talents and paint old Firefighters helmets to help raise much needed funds. Funds from the first art helmet project will be given to needy brigades in the South Burnett region in Queensland. The helmet I painted will help raise funds for Glencoe Rural Fire Brigade in Durong. The helmet is a variety of Queensland native flowers and birds that have likely been affected by the bush fires over time. Just a little way for me to give back to the community and say thank you to all the Firefighters and Volunteers in Australia for everything you do. Living on a farm in drought conditions we know very well how important you are. Thank you for keeping Australian’s and our precious Flora and Fauna safe. Feel free to share my post, tag your friends and spread the word. 19.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we report the passing of former Nanango Group Officer and First Officer of Sandy Ridges RFB Mr Geoffrey (Geoff) Allcock. Geoff attended training last night to view and test the proto type QR52. Burnett Area Training Support Officer Steve Roberts was conducting the training and was shocked to hear of Geoff’s passing this morning, as Geoff seemed his normal self. After training Geoff arrived home and went through his normal routine before going t...o bed and passed away peacefully in his sleep. QFES is offering support for the family. Mr Geoff Allcock National Medal 15 Yrs. QFES Diligent & Ethical Service Medal 10 Yrs. Geoff was instrumental in the construction of the new fire station at Sandy Ridges and it will stand as a monument to Geoff’s commitment to the brigade and to the communities in the South Burnett. Geoff is survived by his wife Katrina, Son Adam and Daughter Melissa-Anne. Our thoughts are with them in this difficult time and also with the members/family of the Sandy Ridges RFB. Glencoe members would like to pass on our condolences to Geoff's family and to all of Sandy Ridges brigade members.

12.01.2022 We haven’t seen this much yellow on our Fire Danger Rating map in a while. Parts of the state are heating up and experiencing Very High fire danger. This means there’s a higher chance of fires igniting in these regions. ... Make sure your Bushfire Survival Plan is up-to date. If you can, avoid any activities that could spark a blaze, like the use of power tools. Contact your local Fire Warden if you have any questions about what this means for your area.

12.01.2022 Rainfall update for 2021 In the first four months of 2021 we have had decrease in rainfall compared to 2020 in our local area. These are totals that have been recorded on Shellytop Road and might vary within the Durong area. In ... January 2020 we received 94.5mm February 2020 we received 123.5mm March 2020 we received 47.0mm April 2020 we received 7.5mm Total =272.5mm January 2021 we received 84.0mm February 2021we received 16.0mm March 2021 we received 123.2mm April 2021 we received 11.0mm Total = 234.2mm From 2020 rainfall we are still in deficit of 38.3mm for 2021. We all know how dry last year was and we are still behind for this year. As property owners we all know we have been in drought for a number of years. We all need to start to prepare our properties incase of a bushfire. We need to clean gutters, clear rubbish from around our houses, maintain our firebreaks. Be aware when using tools and mowers as sparks can start fires quickly. Insure there is access for our fire trucks to get into your property. We need your access to be clear of low hanging trees. Our trucks are 4 meters high, 3.5 meters wide and 8 meters long. If you see smoke or fire call 000. Have ready the following information so 000 can direct help to the correct location. *Name *Address of fire, (in rural areas, it can be of great help to give information of nearest crossroads, property name or landmark.) This helps getting trucks to the correct location. *Phone number Please don't hesitate to contact us, we are happy to help. Have you got your BUSHFIRE SURVIVAL PLAN? 12.01.2022 Whether it’s a house fitted sprinkler system or just sprinklers located around your house, many properties have been saved by this sort of property protection... during bushfires. When designing these systems, many factors need to be taken into consideration as prevailing wind direction and predicted fire conditions. Some sprinklers will not work in high winds so consider using a professional with knowledge of bushfire sprinkler systems. See more

11.01.2022 A big THANK YOU to all Rural Firefights and Support Members on Yellow Ribbon Day. Message received from the Emergency Services Chaplain for Burnett Area, Alan Sage. A big thank you for all we do for our community. Celebrating Yellow Ribbon Day!!! ... Commissioner Greg Leach's thoughts on why celebrating our RFS today is so important: "During last year’s bushfires, our selfless Rural Fire Service (RFS) volunteers showed how dedicated they are to keeping Queenslanders safe. RFS volunteers donated thousands of hours of their time, worked around the clock and even travelled interstate to help others in need. As the first fires of this season burn, our volunteers are answering the call once again. I am incredibly proud of all our RFS volunteers for the work they do both at incidents and behind the scenes. They truly are the first line of defense for communities across Queensland." #YellowRibbonDay #thankyouRFS #thinkvolunteer

10.01.2022 Do you need a fire permit and how do you find a Fire Warden? An application for a ‘Permit to Light Fire’ is made through your local fire warden. Contact details for fire wardens are available through the Fire Warden Finder. Following receipt of your application the fire warden may impose conditions on a permit to reduce unwanted risk or nuisance to other people, property or to the environment. The fire warden may refuse to issue a permit if they believe that appropriate safet...y measures cannot be reasonably achieved. A Notification issued under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 1990, does allow certain fires to be lit without the need to obtain a permit, except if the fires are not permitted under a local law or other legislation. If there is a local law in your local government area prohibiting the lighting of fires, a permit will not be issued by the fire warden unless you have obtained the written permission of the local government. Fires that do not require a Permit Provided adequate precautions are taken to prevent the spread of fire, the following fires may be lit without a permit except where such fires are not allowed under a local law for a part or all of a local government area: A fire in which neither the height, width nor length of the material to be consumed exceeds two metres; A fire lit outdoors for the purpose of cooking and warmth, if enclosed in a fireplace so constructed as to prevent the escape of fire or any burning material there from; A fire lit for the purpose of burning the carcass of a beast; A fire lit at a sawmill for the purpose of burning sawdust or other residue resulting from the operation of a sawmill; or A cane fire may also be subject to a notification and may be lit under certain conditions. If you are uncertain whether the above situations apply to you, and whether you need a permit or not, please contact your local Fire Warden for further clarification. Note: Most local governments provide alternative methods (other than fire) for the disposal of vegetation and waste materials such as refuse collections or disposal of green waste at a council recycling centre. Contact your local government for more information. https://www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au/Pages/fw_finder.aspx

08.01.2022 Dirty PPC is not a badge of honour - it could give you cancer!

07.01.2022 In the first two months of 2021 we have had significant decrease in rainfall compared to 2020 in our local area. These are totals that have been recorded on Shellytop Road and might vary within the Durong area. In January 2020 we received 94.5mm... February 2020 we received 123.5mm Total = 217.0mm January 2021 we received 84.0mm February 2021we received 16.0mm Total = 100.0mm So going by these figures we have received 117.0mm less rainfall so far this year. We all remember how dry it was in 2020 this year is already not looking good for our area, in regards to fire danger. At present no new fire permit will be issued and current permits are cancelled until we get rain.
