16.01.2022 We've received our 11th response, from Ricci Steckoll candidate for Camden: "I have previously spoken about my commitment to emission reductions and meeting the Council's target of net zero emissions. I will absolutely ensure Council considers its impact on emissions reduction for all decisions made. (https://www.facebook.com//a.1175047900760/129039442255906/) To address climate change these are a few practical steps I would advocate for: ... 1) adoption of the Environmental Upgrade Agreement - allowing businesses and residents to upgrade their sustainability and environment systems on buildings whilst reducing energy and waste bills. 2) improvement of the number of tree canopy coverage which acts to absorb Carbon Emissions and reduce heat effects - in line with the Living Melbourne target of 27% by 2040. 3) strategic plan towards a sustainable city, where you can travel anywhere using public transport, walking and cycling in 20 minutes. This includes investing in cycling infrastructure and advocating to the State Government for more efficient public transport routes 4) installation of solar panels and waste management systems in all Council-owned buildings 5) further develop the educational and outreach programs around waste management, recycling and creating energy efficient homes" Ricci Steckoll’s Facebook page is: Ricci Steckoll for Glen Eira - Camden Ward For more info: https://www.ricci4gleneira.com/

02.01.2022 Glen Eira Council is looking for ideas and suggestions about how to make Glen Eira more sustainable, as they start to formulate their next 5 year Sustainability... Strategy. This is a great opportunity for all GEBUG members and supporters to tell council what they think, and show that cycling and active travel is a very important part of any sustainability strategy. There is a forum on Wednesday at 12 noon, where you can give your suggestions, https://www.haveyoursaygleneira.com.au/sustainability-strat you can send an email to [email protected] Or if you don't have a chance to join the forum on Wednesday, a quick and easy way is to jump onto the Have Your Say site and put a few quick and simple suggestions re safe cycle paths etc, and 'like' some of the other suggestion that have already been made along these lines. https://www.haveyoursaygleneira.com.au//how-can-council-su See more
