25.01.2022 Storm tips and tricks - stay prepared
23.01.2022 The team was out and about today responding to residents impacted by the first bit of decent rain in a while. Today's jobs included building damage and tree branches fallen down. SES volunteers are trained and regularly practise skills to work on a roof to keep everyone safe. To assess and make temporary repairs on rooves volunteers must use a roof safety system (SWAHs) to prevent any falls from the roof they are working on. Members must wear a full harness and be attache...d to the roof working line. This gives them the ability to move well without the risk of falling off the roof. The team made temporary repairs to stop or minimise more water entering the house until more permanent repairs can be organise. With rain fallen branches are not uncommon as the team saw today. As the trees absorb water from the rain, the branches often get heavy and can break, falling to the ground below onto whatever is in its path. Avoid parking your vehicles under trees the next couple of days as they may be heavy with water and may break away. Stay safe. If you have storm damage call 132500, life threatening emergencies 000. 21.01.2022 This weekend we celebrate our families .Their support allows our members to continue to attend to our community in their time of need. 2020 has placed increased pressures on everyone but with their commitment as well as our members dedication we have been able to maintain response. We thank you
21.01.2022 In the early hours of this morning, one of the SES Glen Eira Unit crews responded to an incident where a vehicle crashed into the kitchen of a family home, the room in which their dog sleeps. The crew worked with #FireRescueVictoria and #VictoriaPolice to secure the home until permanent repairs can be made. Mr Vic, the Italian greyhound, got such a fright and ran off but the good news is he was found unharmed by a caring local later in the day and the family has been reunited after such an ordeal.
20.01.2022 So perhaps not the weather would have liked to see the year out but its 2020 still... We are Victorians, and it takes a lot to stop us so if you are out and about or off around the state this weekend, enjoy but make sure you take care to avoid risks of trees or branches falling on your campsite etc. Also with all the rain, choose a spot away from areas that may flood eg river banks or low lying areas. Stay safe and have a ball this new year's eve. Remember 132500 for storm and flood emergencies and for life threatening emergencies 000 https://www.facebook.com/366206527540/posts/10157771043777541/

14.01.2022 World Tsunami Day. Did you know that SES is the control agency for Tsunamis. We all know here in Victoria it's unlikely we will experience a tsunami but it's still important to know what to do. Don't forget many of our favourite holiday destinations are threatened by tsunamis every year. Make sure you know what to do if you find yourself facing this emergency. https://www.facebook.com/366206527540/posts/10157651948957541/

12.01.2022 Sausages are sizzling and the drinks are cold. Come down to Bunnings at the Link (Corner Centre and Warrigal Roads) and see our team for your essential Saturday Bunnings sausage and support your SES Glen Eira Unit continue their great work.
11.01.2022 Tonight's training involved temporary repairs for damaged rooves using a safety system to keep members working on the roof safe. Members put time into training on the new lighting trailer which was used to light the scene. Mother nature even assisted to provide realistic weather situation members often work in. Nothing stops these awesome members.
09.01.2022 So proud of all the women volunteering in the Victoria State Emergency Service in a variety of roles but especially proud of all the women in our Unit who give their time and skills to the Community. And all the women in our families who support all of our members fb://photo/10157933196717541?set=a.380649967540
09.01.2022 Today's ANZAC service at Bentleigh RSL. We honour those that gave their lives and those that returned home having gone through so much for the freedom we are privileged to enjoy today. We thank our own member, Tony for his service. #bentleighrsl #gleneira
08.01.2022 Tomorrow is set to be one of Melbourne's hottest days this summer. Remember to take care and take precautions to avoid over-heating and requiring emergency services. Stay hydrated, stay cool and have a great day!!
08.01.2022 Thank you to such a wonderful community for feasting on sausages yesterday and making our Bunnings sausage sizzle so successful. Thank you to Bunnings for hosting our April BBQ and for the unexpected support when our last one got cancelled by the snap lockdown in February. Thank you Bakers Delight at Link, Oakleigh for donating all of the bread for our bbq. We can't thank you enough. #bakersdelight
06.01.2022 Happy new year from all of us. The Glen Eira Unit Volunteers have had a challenging year as has the rest of our community. We are so grateful to be a part of such an amazing community. We thank you all and wish you a happy new year and hope that 2021 brings everyone all so much joy and success with your family and friends.
06.01.2022 This weekend our recruits completed their General Rescue assessment. After delays from COVID and its restrictions, their patience and dedication paid off. Congratulations to Elisabeth, Sam, Liam, Thom, Shai and Gavin, well done all of you.
06.01.2022 Early this morning our Unit received an alert to another attempted break-in at our Unit. While nothing was stolen this time, more damage has occurred which will need to be repaired and replaced. This is truly difficult for our members to see our Unit as a regular target for would-be burglars. The Unit's limited funds will now need to be used to make necessary repairs and to strengthen the security and surveillance in order to protect our volunteers' safety and our vital emergency response vehicles and equipment, which in turn protects the Glen Eira Community.
04.01.2022 Congratulations to one of our long standing and dedicated members, Sean visited North Frankston Rotary club and spoke to them about SES and what we do. He was subsequently presented with the Paul Harris Fellow Award for his commitment and service to the Community. Congratulations Sean we could not be prouder. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=3194296720669879&id=288189867947260

Call 132500. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of the Christmas weekend
04.01.2022 Grand final day is here!!! We got a downfall over night but is easing now just in time to enjoy the game. May the best cat win . We may have lost the grand final to Queensland but the cup will still be coming home. There is a lot of water around so a great day to enjoy the big game at home. Stay safe and dry whatever you do today. If you need assistance from SES please call 132 500, for life threatening emergencies call 000.
04.01.2022 After a lengthy delay due to COVID, last weekend and this weekend members from Glen Eira Unit joined other SES units to assist families who were impacted by the Bunyip bushfires March 2019. The chainsaw crews have been privileged to be working on multiple properties to try to make a small difference in these families' recovery.
