24.01.2022 Mr and Mrs Grebe are excited to announce the arrival of five chicks. Mum and babies are doing well. Everyone is at home in the 8th watercourse. Mr and Mrs Grebe are slightly overwhelmed with the task of feeding five little mouths. We aren't 100% sure, but we think this is the same pair successfully who fledged three chicks last year. 17.01.2022 @glenelggolf's Biodiversity Manager, Monina, has been learning how to look after a hive kindly donated by a beekeeping member. Bees are under threat around the world, and Australia is the only country which hasn't had the destructive Varroa Mite. There are over 1,500 native bees species in Australia, most of which are solitary bees.... More and more clubs are making space for bees on their land, providing a much-needed boost for biodiversity but also selling branded honey and using it in recipes at the clubhouse. When the creek overflows, it can cause flooding at the nearby airport. Last year, the club used 180 megalitres of water. This year, it has pumped 120 megalitres into its aquifer which is yet to be used. The water storage ponds are filtered ...by various native plants. These ponds also provide habitat for local birds, frogs and turtles. This is part of a remnant population of Lomandra leucocephala ssp robusta. It is declared rare in our area by @saseedbank. It is currently in flower and smells amazing!
