21.01.2022 - Traffic management and safety works along Percy Street are well underway, so we thought we'd give an overview of the project, why it is happening, and how it is being funded. ? Percy Street was identified as a local high-risk road following a number of crashes in the area and ongoing safety concerns from the community.... ? Council was successful in receiving funding of almost $1 million for the project from the State Government’s ‘Safe Travel in Local Streets’ program. The project is fully funded through this grant. ? As part of the program intersections along Percy Street between Tyers and Wade Streets in Portland will be upgraded, including: Lighting upgrades between Tyers and Wade Streets A raised median between Tyers and Fern Streets A safer speed limit of 50 km/h between Otway and Fern Streets Single lane line marking between Fern and Wade Streets Angle parking and accessible parking where required. ? ? Yes, community feedback was integral in shaping the final design, and consultation sessions were held in 2019 and 2020. The valuable feedback received in these sessions and from the ‘Your Say Glenelg’ website was considered in the development of the final design plans for this project. ? Works are expected to be delivered by 30 June 2021. The contractor will be working to minimise any inconvenience and delays during the construction period. To learn more about the project, visit the dedicated Your Say Glenelg webpage: https://bit.ly/2NEJB75

04.01.2022 We know there has been a few questions asked of late as to what is happening over the festive season, particularly in Portland, so we thought we would quickly touch base. ' We had to make the difficult decision to cancel the popular Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve events on the Portland Foreshore for 2020. ... Given the ongoing uncertainty, limits on public gatherings and health and safety risks posed at the time of planning, Council was obligated to consider a COVID-Safe alternative. In lieu of these physical events we have worked closely with our local community groups, kindergartens, business groups and performers to create a series of inclusive virtual events. We encourage all community members to tune into the Glenelg Shire Facebook page on December 11 to celebrate a virtual Christmas Eve, and again on December 31 to celebrate a virtual New Year’s Eve, complete with performances from national and local artists. XMAS IN GLENELG: https://bit.ly/3mcdEPA NYE IN GLENELG: https://bit.ly/33o6vnY Alongside the Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve events, another iconic celebration has also, regrettably, been cancelled. The New Year’s Eve fireworks display over the Portland Harbour will not proceed for 2020. Once again, this decision was taken at a time when the official health directions were to prevent any large crowds from congregating. In order to comply with these COVID-Safe orders, Council, like many of its counterparts across the South West, had to cancel its annual fireworks display. The Portland Foreshore carnival and amusements, run by TPA Shows, is returning! The carnival is expected to arrive in Portland on 26 December 2020 for their annual summer visit.
