25.01.2022 FOLKS AND THAT IS IT - THANKS FOR THE FANTASTIC RESPONSE, WE HAVE GREAT NUMBERS COMING TO THE HWY FOR THIS FRIDAY NIGHTS SENIOR PRESENTATIONS. ON LINE LINK TO PURCHASE TICKETS IS NOW CLOSED

25.01.2022 Great turn out for our first junior pre-season session on a coolish night. Preseason will continue next and every Thursday at the same time same location. ALL NEW AND EXISTING PLAYERS WELCOME.

25.01.2022 Greetings all It’s been 9 days since our previous COVID update as a result of the shutdown of community sport and subsequent temporary lock down of the state. With positive updates since being provided by both government personnel and BaseballSA there is very high hopes that community sport will resume as originally intended from December 1st. That could mean we return to competitive matches as early as next weekend. This is obviously subject to further announcements from t...he government and league but if achieved is a very positive outcome. We ask that you maintain close contact with your coaches and / or your relevant playing operations managers (Grant & Justin) for further updates. We also need to expect further and ongoing restrictions relating to how we play and train in respect to COVID related requirements (on top of those previously in effect). These will no doubt be communicated and evolve over time. As such in order to share the load and compliance aspects we will be asking for further engagement from many of our playing group, parents and volunteers in completing the COVID Marshal online training and assist us in doing our part to make community sport safe in this challenging times. When baseball does recommence I am asking all our members to re-familiarise yourself with requirements around code of conduct and behaviour management. Be it in your capacity as players, parents, spectators or officials. Community sport is expected to provide an inviting environment for all and on behalf of the board we ask you to assist us in as we seek to improve our efforts in this space. Some changes around the club including upcoming events etc are as a result of the impacts of the COVID shutdown and potential gathering restrictions etc so please keep a regular eye on our updates and communications and support our club events wherever possible. Stay safe and I look forward to seeing you all back at the club very shortly. Cheers Bender P.S. the link to the COVID marshal training is https://marshal.clickontraining.com.au/

22.01.2022 REMINDER Nominations to [email protected] for Facilities Manager close tomorrow, Thursday 13th August. Extraordinary General Meeting scheduled for Thursday 20th August @ 7.45pm.... Nomination forms available at:- www.glenelgbaseballclub.com.au//Glenelg-baseball-club-new-

22.01.2022 Looks like we’re all systems go, after a couple of false starts this weekend the GBC’s Jess Maslin, Alice Prokopec & Craig Handy (coach) will be part of the women’s showcase. They’d all love to see as many GBC fans out there cheering them on.

22.01.2022 Plenty happening at the club over the weekend, it kicked off today with our working bee, a cracker of a day and a cracker of a turn out with good numbers showing up to dig in and help. Things were made a bit easier with the use of some big boy toys from our newest sponsor Kennards Hire demonstrated by head coach Andrew Qualmann. Tomorrow the momentum continues with all senior teams training, including a come and try for womens baseball. Stay tuned for more updates as the lead up to the season amps up.

22.01.2022 Super happy with the appointments of Bianca and Alice to guide our juniors. Quality people.

21.01.2022 Dear GBC Members, By now presumably you have heard the initial announcements regarding the SA Government mandated shut down of community sports. Initial indications are that this will apply for up to two weeks but will be reviewed as they understand the situation around the recent COVID cluster/outbreak in Adelaide. This announcement is no doubt devastating to many of you who after months of uncertainty had only begun to return to something resembling the normalcy that comes... with the baseball season. We are still awaiting any official communication from the league regarding impact specifics and if the shutdown is full and complete or if modified baseball training or events may occur during this time. As such and until further notice please consider all training and events at the GBC to be postponed. 2020 has been trying for us all and the impact of this pandemic continues to be felt across our community. During this forced shutdown please do not lose contact reach out to your teammates and officials and continue to ask how are they handling things & ‘are you ok’? Some official events and other matters at the club may need to be postponed, rescheduled and potentially cancelled we will communicate those impacted when appropriate. Many of the updates to this situation will be found on our club social media pages (especially Facebook) as it allows for easy sharing and communication of relevant league and government updates. Please ensure you are following us via these channels to stay as updated as possible. As always myself and the rest of your board and other club officials are available don’t hesitate to contact me directly if you require. Stay safe, stay strong and keep up the recommended hygiene and social distancing measures and hopefully we’ll be back on the diamond before long. All the best, Craig Bender Handy President Glenelg Baseball Club

Congratulations to Millar and his blokes on an outstanding season.

11.01.2022 JOE GLUYAS - 100 DIVISION 1 GAMES Tomorrow nights Division 1 game at Adelaide, brings about another milestone game, with young gun Joe Gluyas suiting up for his 100th Division 1 game. With a surname like Gluyas, Joe was always destined to be a GBC future star and it started right back in this back yard when he used to don his dad Andrew's catchers gear any chance he got. When it finally came time to venture onto the hallowed fields of the GBC Joe was actually too young, and ...was only allowed to train but not play for Ben Alexander's under 13 team. Next next season with his dad as his first coach, he began his GBC career. Joe has been a member of many state and charter teams including the 16's championship winning team and the Armada charter team that represented Australia. Throughout juniors Joe played in numerous grand finals including 13's, 15's & 17's but it wasn't until the U19's - Don Rice League team that he tasted premiership success at the GBC, something he says has been a highlight of his time at the GBC. Joe recalls receiving his first glove from club legend Dale Ziersch and rates Zeddy as his all time favourite GBC player. Whilst in his time in Division 1 he rates Brammer from Port Adelaide as his toughest opponent. Aside from team success, Joe is the current holder of the Dave Doonan Memorial Award as the best outfielder in the club, and noted that he and father Andrew both won 'The West Beach Trust' award and I believe are the only father / son in the history of the club to both win the award. The Gluyas family are all massive supporters of Joe, along with Andrew, Joe acknowledges a mountain of support he gets from his mum Sue, grandfather Jim, uncle Patty, and younger brothers, also future stars Darcy & Conor. Whilst he would also be remiss to not acknowledge Nathan Davison who has always looked out for him and given timely advise and encouragement. Please join me in wishing Joe best of luck for tomorrows game.

10.01.2022 Calling all interested past and present interested masters players. GBC is intending to have a team in the new Baseball SA Monday Night Masters this season. 05.01.2022 CONNOR HILL - 100 DIVISION 1 GAMES It is with great pleasure we announce that Connor Hill will suit up for his 100th Division 1 game in the 2nd game of the double header against Adelaide at home on Sunday. Connor's road to 100 games in one of persistence and thoroughly well deserved.... Hilly started his GBC journey with good mate and ex GBC player Brandon Russo when they came down as part of the School of Nativity tee ball team, and were tapped on the shoulder by club Life Member Peter McGearey. Hilly's early love of baseball was just that feeling of coming down the club and playing with mates. Hilly recalls his first coach as being life member Chris Abbott, and attributes a lot of his early development to Ringer, together with really blossoming under the tutelage of Marty Beyer, Gary Rice in his junior days and then team mate and pitching coach Matt Williams once he reached seniors. He also loved playing under Dale Ziersch as coach in Division 1. Connor made numerous state junior teams 14's, 16's and 18's and featured high up regularly in the league awards. Played in many junior grand finals without ever getting the chocolates, but rates being in the squad as part of the our most recent Div 1 flag as a highlight of his career to date. Hilly recalls making his Div 1 debut against Sturt and thinking how easy is this hitting a double in his first at bat. He rates club legend Jamie Kloeden as the best player he's seen in his time at the GBC, and Steph Welsh from Goodwood as his toughest opponent, saying he's given up more home runs to him than he's gotten him out. After winning the clubs award for player of the finals in 2018 Hilly suffered a nasty injury sliding at Gawler early in 2019 that required 12 screws, a plate and total ankle reconstruction. A year out of the game it is a testament that Hilly is back and playing good baseball. Connor's parents Cathy & Rian have been great supporters of not only Connor but also the GBC. Cathy a long time scorer and the late Rian was a treasurer and Coopers Trophy winner, and would be proud of Connor's achievements. Please join me in congratulating Connor
