10.01.2022 Spring prescribed burning is underway. If you are affected by smoke, or suffer from asthma, here's what you need to know.

10.01.2022 Today is the inaugural 'Thank a First Responder Day'. Its hard to put into words just how much the individuals in our emergency services mean to us. Over thous...ands of kilometres from our capital city to the remotest corners of our State, those individuals step up to make a difference. Our devastating summer that drew the attention of the rest of the world seems so long ago, considering all that has happened since. First responders have continued to adapt to these challenges to protect and care for those in need. Thank you for battling fires both on our own doorstep and helping our fellow Australians over east, thank you for braving the storms, cyclones and floods and thank you for selflessly facing rough seas to make sure we are safe. This sentiment of thanks is a shared one, and the gratitude is evident in the heartfelt messages we see from the community everyday. Here are just a few of those messages from this past season. #FirstResponderDay #ThankAFirstResponder

08.01.2022 RESTRICTED BURNING PERIOD 1st of April 2020 the Shire of Mundaring will be in the RESTRICTED burning period until midnight the 31st May. It is a lit...tle bit different this year so please read and share the information below. With current circumstances we can all understand that Emergency Services or anyone for that matter should exercise SOCIAL DISTANCING and not come into contact with others unless absolutely necessary. It is therefore necessary to put in place special SOCIAL DISTANCING measures in relation to the Restricted Burning period and the issuing (or otherwise) of Permits. To limit the exposure/interaction the following conditions have been set out. 1. NO PERMITS will be issued until further notice (we encourage you to plan your burns for the open burning period when permits are not required) 2.Residents may burn if needed after 6pm so long as the following conditions are followed. 1sqm piles of garden refuse may be burnt without a permit between 6pm and 11pm ALL piles must be FULLY extinguished before midnight. (fully extinguished means no heat, smoke or steam and no white ash present where the fire was situated) and re-checked the next day There MUST be one adult person/s in attendance at all times, with running water able to reach 2 metres past any pile. Ensure smoke is managed and you notify your neighbours. Keeping in mind COVID-19 is a respiratory virus/disease, we dont want to aggravate those who may be sick, asthmatic or vulnerable having to expose themselves and others by going to the hospital/doctors for care. NO burning if the Fire Danger Rating is VERY HIGH or ABOVE 3. Fire Control Officers will be ACTIVELY patrolling the shire to ensure burning is not occurring during the day. Thank you in advance for your cooperation, take care and look after each other.

04.01.2022 Shout out to Make Tracks 4x4 Accessories in Midland for giving us a significant discount on a new air compressor for our Light Tanker appliance. An air compressor is an essential piece of kit for us when off-road driving. We often need to deflate our tyres when accessing fires in difficult terrain such as sand. We now have an air compressor for each of our appliances. That means they can now be more independent, not having to rely on being together to re-inflate tyres.

04.01.2022 Slow Down, Move Over No matter which road you’re traveling down in WA, the SLOMO law requires you to slow down to 40 km/h when approaching emergency vehicles who are attending an incident. It’s as much for your safety as it is for ours.

04.01.2022 This prayer is traditionally read at our Firefighter Memorial Service, which is usually held on a Sunday nearest to International Firefighters' Day. These word...s are a fitting tribute to those who have embodied what it truly means to be a firefighter, to risk their lives for the safety of others. Today, we honour those individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

04.01.2022 The Prohibited Burning Period in the Shire of Mundaring begins from 1 December 2020. All burning, including garden refuse piles is prohibited during this period. For more information, visit https://bit.ly/2XOIRNT

04.01.2022 "A lot of fatalities in bushfires are caused by people who just leave the decision to leave far too late." The mini-series explores how our weather is changing and what we can do to survive it. It starts tonight at 8.30 pm on ABC TV + iview

03.01.2022 After more than six years of service to Glen Forrest Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, our wonderful Treasurer, Ann, will soon be stepping down and retiring from the role. So, we begin the task of finding our new Treasurer. The Treasurer is part of the management committee of the brigade. The Treasurer's role is to manage the finances of the brigade, including receiving and depositing monies, maintaining records and presenting account reports at each monthly meeting (where there are snacks and drinks provided at the end). There are no pre-requisites for the role as we can teach you everything you need to know. It probably totals an average of a few hours per month in terms of time commitment. Please share this with anyone who might be interested in the role. If youre interested, please email our Secretary at [email protected]

02.01.2022 In case you hadn't heard, we are currently undergoing planning for an upgrade and extension to our fire station. Generous local resident, Val, will be holding a garage sale at 8 Cecil Street Glen Forrest on Sunday 2 February from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Val says:... Also costume jewellery, scarves, fabrics, books, CDs, DVDs and bric-a-brac.
