If you are choosing to light a candle, please ensure it is monitored by an adult and extinguished properly. You might like to mark the event by using a torch or outside light. Thank you and stay safe.

17.01.2022 Going camping this summer? Make sure to follow these tips to ensure your campfire does not become a bushfire.

16.01.2022 We are sharing this from one of our firefighters, Liam, who has recently spent some time with strike teams working on the East Gippsland fires. It has been a devastating fire season so far for many regions around Australia but thankfully the recent rainfall has given fire crews and those affected some much-needed respite. It has been an honour to assist these communities in their time of need, but we know there is still a lot of work to be done to declare these fires under co...ntrol and ensure safe access to impacted areas. We would like to acknowledge the amazing collaboration between emergency service agencies and support organisations during this time. Our members have worked alongside dozens of local, interstate and national response parties with those paid and volunteering working together flawlessly towards many focuses from wildlife rescue and machinery operators to the Red Cross supplying community support. Interstate efforts and assistance from foreign countries also cannot be overlooked. We have worked alongside USA and Canadian fire crews and the Singaporean Air Force's support was pivotal in flying two Glengarry Volunteers with a CFA District 27 strike team into Mallacoota earlier this month to relieve local crews whom had been working tirelessly for the community while their own properties were lost and livelihoods impacted. A huge thanks must also go to all those working in the background and to the broader community who have been so generous. Our firefighters have received comfort pack donations personally which on a long deployment is a much-appreciated luxury. We have also seen the amazing reactions from locals when receiving donated bales of hay arrive by helicopter to feed their starving stock and others receiving donated food supplies after being isolated from the local store for many days. You should all be commended for your contributions. Our thoughts especially go out to the families and friends of the 3 firefighters from NSW RFS, 2 firefighters and 1 contractor from FFMV, and the 3 aerial firefighters from the USA who have tragically lost their lives while working to protect to communities across Victoria and New South Wales from these devastating bushfires. You will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace and condolences to the loved ones of all that we have lost.

15.01.2022 Are you burning off safely? With the weather warming up, now is a great time to start preparing for fire season. Every year, brigades are called out to out of control burn-offs. By doing the following you can make sure your burn-off remains safe and under control: Register your burn-off with ESTA 1800 668 511.... Check local council restrictions. Check the weather forecast for the day you are lighting your burn-off and the following 3 days. Make sure to keep an eye out for strong wind forecasts. Clear an area 3 metres around and above your burn-off. Have an adult always in attendance. Have sufficient water on hand to extinguish the burn-off. Fully extinguish the burn-off before leaving. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/burning-off

15.01.2022 Wellington police will be conducting a vehicle check point operation along Traralgon-Maffra Road on Friday and Saturday. The operation will target anyone from m...etropolitan Melbourne or Mitchell Shire who is travelling for any reason other than one of the four prescribed by the Chief Health Officer. Anyone who is found to be in deliberate and blatant breach of the Chief Health Officer’s directions will be fined. Reports of suspected breaches can be made via the online reporting tool: go.vic.gov.au/clbQNe For information, updates and advice about the outbreak of coronavirus, visit https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus

14.01.2022 Further demolition works are being undertaken at the Hazelwood coal mine today.

13.01.2022 There has been a huge effort in the last few weeks from Victoria's emergency services, and we at Glengarry Fire Brigade have played our small part. We have had members commit to single and multiple day strike deployments in the last 3 weeks. Four firefighters from Glengarry spent their New Year's Eve on a strike team working in the Sarsfield and Bruthen areas. These crews deployed shortly after the fires had swept through these areas. This strike team was tasked with patrolli...ng and blacking out, as well as checking in on local residents where possible. Between the 9th and 12th of January, 2 firefighters from Glengarry joined up with other staff and volunteers from District 27 brigades to crew a strike team in Mallacoota. The strike team was flown in by Chinook helicopter due to the lack of safe road access. They were tasked with preparing infrastructure for further fire threats and responding to local calls to give Mallacoota brigade a rest. Before returning home, the strike team safely escorted a convoy of about 70 vehicles to Eden in NSW. The strike team crews returned home on another Chinook. District 9 and 27 are currently rotating crews for a task force of tankers and ultralights in Swifts Creek. We currently have one firefighter from Glengarry in Swifts Creek, working alongside other members from District 27. Fire crews in Swifts Creek have been busy helping the community in many ways, including a Barefoot Bowls event at the bowls club next door to the base camp. A mammoth effort is still required to contain and control these fires, and it is likely that further crews will be required. Despite the rain over the last few days, we are not out of the woods. There is still many weeks of the fire season to go. As well as providing a number of crew members to strike teams, firefighters from Glengarry have been ready to respond to any local calls as well.

13.01.2022 The Fire Danger Rating for West and South Gippsland today is VERY HIGH. Please take care in the hot conditions today. Make sure to check fire danger ratings daily by visiting https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warn/total-fire-bans-and-ratings

12.01.2022 The Fire Danger Period has now been lifted for Latrobe City and Wellington Shire. If you are planning any burning off, please ensure you follow your local council by laws and always register your burn-off. This limits unnecessary callouts for our firefighters. More information on burning off can be found by visiting https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/burning-off

08.01.2022 Almost 20% of burns admissions to The Alfred are caused by people throwing petrol or other accelerants on open fires. We are urging all Victorians to stay safe this weekend if you are around an open fire. We really don't want to come to your house (no offence)
