20.01.2022 Neighbourhood Centre Week 8th -15th May 2020 Whilst we may not be able to hold our annual events to celebrate, we thought we could come together as a collective and show case all the wonderful things we as Community Hubs, Community Centre's and Neighbourhood Centre's do to help support and enrich our local communities. Over our time working in the community we have seen and got to know many people from all walks of life. Listening, talking, assisting, and watching our com...munity and its people grow and achieve goals, in some cases, some may have never thought possible. We have been fortunate enough to build on our working relationships whether it be with community members, service providers or other work colleagues. There is a reason we do what we do & that reason is PASSION. Passion to be there for one and other and passion to help each other out in times of need. There is love for what we do, and we believe we have been blessed to have been given this opportunity. The best part of our job is definitely meeting a diverse range of people and being able to sit and have a good yarn over a cuppa. Every day for us is different..From our regulars that just pop in to say G’day, to our more vulnerable members of community who may need assistance and those who love to attend to our weekly programs and events. Each day is a blessing and we walk away with purpose and a sense of feeling as if we have made a difference! COVID 19 has had a big impact on all of us and affected us all in different ways. There has not been as much face to face contact and we have had to make significant changes to our day to day lives. From a service point of view, we have had to cancel our programs and events and think outside the box on how we can reach our community in different ways. By utilising social media such as Facebook we are able to share loads of fun and interactive family friendly ideas, stay connected with our communities and distribute much needed information and referral services So, make sure you look up your local Community Hub or Neighbourhood Centre to stay up to date.

07.01.2022 How did the 16 Days of Activism come about? The Mirabal Sisters, political activists whose deaths were commemorated with the establishment of The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. On 25 November 1960, sisters Patria, Minerva and Maria Teresa Mirabal, three political activists who actively opposed the cruelty and systematic violence of the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic, were clubbed to death and dumped at the bottom of a cliff b...y Trujillo’s secret police. The Mirabal sisters became symbols of the feminist resistance, and in commemoration of their deaths 25 November was declared International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in Latin America in 1980. This international day was formally recognised by the United Nations in 1999. In June 1991, the Centre for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL), alongside participants of the first Women’s Global Institute on Women, Violence and Human Rights, called for a global campaign of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. The 16 days begins with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and ends with International Human Rights Day on 10 December highlighting that violence against women is a fundamental violation of human rights. Why does this matter?
