25.01.2022 SMALL BUSINESS REBATE SCHEME NOW OPEN Small businesses in NSW will get a helping hand with a $1500 rebate scheme now open, assisting in the payment of NSW and local government fees and charges, such as licences, council rates, and registration fees. Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies MP said the Small Business Fees and Charges Rebate, which was announced in November’s Budget, would provide support for eligible NSW small businesses, sole traders and non-profit organisations.... It’s important that we support small businesses, including those right here in Western Sydney to recover from the impact of the COVID pandemic and encourage business growth by reducing the cost of running a business, Mrs Davies said. The NSW Government has committed close to $500 million for the new scheme, which shows our commitment to the small businesses of NSW. Minister for Finance and Small Business Damien Tudehope said a small pilot program would start this month before it rolled out state-wide and businesses could access the scheme through Service NSW. Many licence fee waivers are about to expire and I encourage small businesses below the new 2020-21 payroll tax threshold of $1.2 million to apply for this new rebate scheme, Mr Tudehope said. This will help hundreds more businesses, along with entrepreneur and family businesses across the state, ensuring they have more money in their pockets as NSW continues its post-pandemic recovery. Under the scheme, small businesses, sole traders and non-profit organisations can apply to be reimbursed up to $1500 for NSW and local government fees and charges that are business related costs. These include: Food authority licences Liquor licences Tradesperson licences Event fees Council rates Business vehicle registration fees The scheme cannot be used for fees and charges specifically excluded under policy guidelines, such as fines and penalties, and will only be available for those charges and fees that are due and paid after 1 March 2021. It will be available via Service NSW in early April and will run until 30 June 2022. The scheme will allow eligible small businesses to draw down on a $1500 credit to offset the cost of eligible NSW and local government fees and charges. 17.01.2022 FIRST PEEK AT DESIGN FOR GLENMORE PARK HIGH SCHOOL’S NEW PERFORMING ARTS AND LEARNING CENTRE Plans are forging ahead to deliver a new performing arts and learning centre at Glenmore Park High School, with the first designs now released by the NSW Government. Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies MP welcomed the progress on the project and said she was excited to share the first images of the centre with the community.... I’m proud that the NSW Government is delivering this exciting project at Glenmore Park High School. It will benefit the high school, many other primary schools and the local community for years to come, Mrs Davies said. Glenmore Park High School’s new performing arts and learning centre is part of a $50 million program to deliver new and upgraded halls at 10 schools across the state. Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said she was proud that the halls program will benefit more than 6,000 NSW public school students. I’m delighted to see the new designs for the hall projects as this is a really important program for our schools, Ms Mitchell said. The new and upgraded halls will be custom designed to suit each school’s needs, including features such as dedicated performing arts spaces, sports courts, canteen and storage facilities, out of school hours care facilities and covered outdoor learning areas. As part of the planning process for some of the halls, the Department of Education will look at opportunities for community use as well as the possibility of sharing some of the facilities with neighbouring schools in the area. Current planning for halls includes developing a master plan and concept design, which will be shared with the local communities as the project progresses. The Department of Education is working to complete the detailed hall designs and initiate a tender process before the end of this year, with construction scheduled to start across all projects in early 2021. The NSW Government is investing $6.7 billion over four years to deliver more than 190 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. This is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.

14.01.2022 Mayor confident of a Penrith win, hints at public holiday to celebrate Penrith Mayor Karen McKeown OAM has thrown the City’s support behind the Penrith Panthers this weekend as they look to secure their third NRL premiership title. Penrith City Council and the Penrith community will be cheering on the Panthers come Sunday night, Cr McKeown said. Our community has rallied around the Panthers since their inception into the league in 1967 and that support is evident everyw...here you look around Penrith at the moment everyone is displaying the team’s colours and in some cases houses and businesses have been painted in the Panthers colours to show their support. Cr McKeown said that so many in the community have drawn inspiration from the team in what has been a challenging year for everyone. The team has provided hope to not only the Penrith community, but also the fire ravaged communities they visited earlier this. It’s those visits that lift the spirit and strengthens the resilience of communities, Cr McKeown said. Asked what it was that will see Penrith come out on top, Cr McKeown said there’s just so many things that point towards a Panthers victory that you cannot ignore their significance. It’s been 17 years since the team last won the Premiership, they’ve had 17 wins in a row leading up to Sunday’s game and a win in the grand final will make it an NRL record for the most wins, Cr McKeown said. In 2003, the team won a with a father/son combination and in 2020 the Cleary’s have shown that has worked really well for them. Plus, Penrith have won two of the three grand finals they’ve played in, while the Storm’s winning record of grand finals is almost half that. Cr McKeown said a victory on Sunday night against the Melbourne Storm would see Penrith celebrate long and hard. I may need to consider declaring a public holiday for Monday so we can celebrate the win properly it would be un-Australian not to, wouldn’t it? 14.01.2022 Young girl sexually assaulted at Penrith play centre; investigation underway Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad are investigating the sexual assault of a toddler at a play centre in Sydney’s west. Emergency services were called to the play centre on Mulgoa Road, Penrith about 12.20pm yesterday (Sunday 26 July 2020), after a two-year-old girl was found injured.... Police have been told the girl’s mother was looking for her for a period of time prior to her being found by a member of the public in a storeroom. Officers from Nepean Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene. The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect. 12.01.2022 A new way to play at The Carriageway A recent upgrade has created a more contemporary and inclusive playspace at The Carriageway in Glenmore Park. A bird nest swing, star rider, swings, spinner and talk tubes are just some of the elements of the $80,000 project, jointly funded by Penrith City Council and the NSW Government’s Everyone Can Play Grant Scheme. ... Penrith Mayor Karen McKeown OAM said Council was committed to providing residents, both young and old, with outdoor spaces that encouraged play, rest and relaxation and a healthy, active lifestyle. The new playspace at The Carriageway was designed in consultation with the community to ensure it met their wants and needs, and we are confident it will be enjoyed for many years to come, Cr McKeown said. Member for Mulgoa Tanya Davies said the NSW Government’s Everyone Can Play initiative aimed to provide people of all ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds with an opportunity to play. Inclusive playgrounds provide wonderful spaces for families and friends of all ages and abilities. The new Carriageway playspace will be a great place to play, relax and connect as well as helping make the Glenmore Park community even more inclusive, Tanya Davies said. Cr McKeown thanked the NSW Government for its investment in the City. We appreciate the government’s support to realise these upgrades and other projects under Council’s 15-year Sport and Recreation Strategy, Cr McKeown said. We recognise that working with the government and planning with, not for, our residents is the best way to achieve great outcomes for our community. Council is upgrading 25 playspaces across Penrith over the next five years. To find out more, go to penrith.city/playspace-upgrades. 10.01.2022 NEWS JUST IN COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS EASED Gatherings in outdoor public spaces and group bookings at restaurants will be increased to 30 people under a relaxation of COVID-19 rules. ... From this Friday, 23 October: 30 people can gather outdoors in public spaces (previously this was 20); 30 customers per booking, and 30 customers per table at hospitality venues (previously the rule was a maximum of 10); In addition, as of last Friday 16 October, corporate functions of up to 300 people can now be held at any appropriate premises, including at restaurants, subject to a COVID-Safe plan (previously just function centres). Additionally, from 1 December, the number of people who can attend weddings will be lifted to 300 people subject to the four square metre rule indoors and two square metre rule outdoors. This will allow people to make plans and book venues knowing the capacity ahead of time. Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the NSW Government remains focused on managing COVID-19 and opening up the economy in a COVID-Safe way. These changes will provide a big boost to our hospitality venues, Ms Berejiklian said. As we ease restrictions and find new ways to get businesses moving it is vital that customers and venues continue to be COVID-Safe. Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said this was another important step in driving our economic recovery while returning to life in a COVID-Safe way. We continue to remain focused on stimulating the economy, keeping businesses in business and people in jobs, Mr Perrottet said. The easing of restrictions and safely increasing capacities will lead directly to more jobs and more opportunities for businesses across NSW, which is integral for the State’s recovery. Minister for Health Brad Hazzard said lower case numbers are a good sign but we are by no means out of the woods. It is vital as we ease restrictions people continue to do the right thing, stay home if unwell and get tested, even with the most minimal of symptoms, Mr Hazzard said. Minister for Jobs, Investment and Tourism Stuart Ayres said the NSW Government remains focused on creating jobs and stimulating the economy, key goals of the NSW Government’s COVID-19 Recovery Plan. We want to see NSW get back on track in a COVID-safe way and this is another important step, Mr Ayres said. NSW Health Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said people still need to continue to follow the personal hygiene recommendations, maintain physical distancing and wear masks in indoor settings where you cannot physically distance. As we ease restrictions, we all need to maintain COVID-safe behaviours and practices, Dr Chant said. Businesses wishing to take advantage of the relaxed restrictions must use electronic methods, like QR codes, to record and keep contact details.

07.01.2022 NEW COVID-SAFE SCHOOL GUIDELINES RELEASED NSW public schools have been provided with updated guidelines to help them manage the 2021 return to school in a COVID-safe way. Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said the main update to the guidelines is that parents and carers of children in Kindergarten, and Years 1, 2 and 7 will be able to enter school grounds on the first day to drop off their children in a COVID-safe way. ... The first day of school is an incredibly important day, especially for those children starting Kindergarten. I am so thrilled that despite the challenges of the pandemic, parents and carers will be able to take part in this milestone event in their child’s life in a COVID-safe way, Ms Mitchell said. The NSW Government has worked hard to get the balance right for day one of school to ensure we provide a sense of normalcy whilst keeping people safe. Parents and carers attending on day one and beyond are urged to follow COVID-safe practices, which include physical distancing, hygiene practices and not to mingle in or outside the school. Schools will provide relevant information to families about the processes for their school prior to the first day. Parents, staff and students are not required to wear face masks at school but in line with Public Health Orders, masks must be worn by those aged 12 years and over on any public transport. Similarly, students aged 12 and over must comply with the Public Health Orders around masks at all other relevant locations within the community, and also during external school activities. Parents are asked to avoid coming onto school grounds unless the visit complies with the current school guidelines, such as volunteering at the school canteen or visiting the uniform shop. Schools can still plan for sporting carnivals, excursions and overnight camps, and special events such as concerts, with a COVID Safety Plan in place. Materials and support for planning are available to schools. https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families
