25.01.2022 I had the opportunity to visit some great local businesses in Gladstone today, who have benefited from the Palaszczuk Governments Small Business COVID-19 Adaptation Grants. This pandemic has been tough for so many Queenslanders, so it was great to hear how the Palaszczuk Governments economic recovery plan is helping local businesses keep their doors open and their workers in jobs. Lynda from Runway 7 Boutique has used the grant to upgrade their point of sale system to inte...grate with their online sales and to produce a new TV ad campaign. Grant and Natalie from Cooper McKenzie Marketing tell me that the adaptation grants are giving local small business just like Runway 7 Boutique the chance to adapt their marketing plans and in some instances invest in marketing their business of the first time. Generating new business opportunities for them too. ...and Cooper McKenzie were also successful in getting a grant, not for marketing though, I think theyve got that bit covered . Over 100 small businesses in Gladstone have received an adaptation grant and Round 2 is still open to applications in regional Queensland. 25.01.2022 Dropped into Jenmick Gear Cutting & Engineering in town today to check out their new SMEC CNC turning centre a fully automated combined lathe and milling machine capable of high precision and accurate machining. The new equipment was part funded through the Palaszczuk Government's Made in Queensland program that's helping local manufacturers move into advanced manufacturing, grow their businesses and employ more workers. This new machine does the work of three old machines ...and takes just a quarter of the time to finish a job. The company have already put on one apprentice and are looking to put another one on early next year.

25.01.2022 Backing Queensland manufacturing = backing Queensland jobs A $257,000 Manufacturing Hubs Grant means Global Manufacturing Group in Gladstone will create new jobs for six local workers and apprentices. These upgrades include replacing the 400 meter tower and the main judges and camper tower, track repairs and replacing the inside running rail - improving safety for the horses and riders. Country racing is integral to communities and residents living in regional Queensland. Small clubs like Gladstone are at the heart of communities... like ours, bringing people together and supporting local economies. This package is just another example of the Palaszczuk Government's commitment to regional Queensland.

22.01.2022 Hi everyone, quick update on returning International Queenslanders and potential regional locations in Queensland. The Queensland Government is working through options for quarantine hubs for international arrivals, including in regional Queensland. The Gladstone area has been identified as a potential to accommodate some returning people. NO GLADSTONE CBD MOTELS ARE BEING LOOKED AT.... The people returning are Queenslanders and are just trying to get home. These people are families and friends who want to get back home. Some of these people have been trying to get flights home for months and have had them cancelled. Hotel quarantine is very closely managed by Queensland Police Service and Queensland Health, with assistance from Australian Defence Force personnel, to ensure proper support, monitoring and supervision of quarantined people and keep the community safe. At this stage, the government is considering different options and I will keep the community informed along the way. Along with stringent border controls, social distancing and robust testing, quarantine is one of the most important tools in the fight to keep Queenslanders safe from COVID-19.
22.01.2022 **** RESTRICTIONS FURTHER EASED *** Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced a further easing of restrictions as Queensland continues its recovery from the pandemic.... The Premier said these were sensible steps back to normality after Queensland recorded 60 days without a locally acquired case. This is the result of the hard work of Queenslanders, the Premier said. Other countries are experiencing third waves with increasing numbers of daily cases. Queenslanders are able to enjoy our Queensland way of life and we have to keep up the good work. The changes will come into effect at 4pm on 17 November 2020. Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Yvette D’Ath said the pandemic isn’t over so we have to stay vigilant. We can’t forget the basics, the Minister said. That means keep up social distancing, stay home if you’re sick and maintain basic hygiene. Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said the good work of businesses and venues under COVID-19 Safe Plans, such as collecting contact details, complying with occupant density numbers, and providing hand sanitiser, had helped move Queensland to further ease restrictions early. Queensland’s COVID Safe plans have worked well to keep our community safe and help keep life as normal as possible, Dr Young said. COVID Safe Plans will be reviewed and updated in line with the further easing of restrictions, and government departments will work with their stakeholders to do this.

22.01.2022 The Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail is gearing up thanks to $330,000 in funding from the Palaszczuk Government. The funding for concept designs has been locked in as part of a $10 million coup for rail trails across the state. This money will go towards funding the concept design for three new individual trails as the region bounces back from COVID-19, including: The Awoonga Lake Rail Trail (36.28 kilometres),... The Kalpowar Tunnels Rail Trail (31.2 kilometres) and The Burnett River Bridges Rail Trail (28.8 kilometres). For every dollar we invest in bike-riding, that means $5 returned in economic benefit to our region dollars crucial as we turn the tide on COVID-19. When we talk rail trails, were talking jobs in construction, jobs in tourism and new opportunities for local businesses. The concept design of these three trails, a partnership between Gladstone Regional Council, North Burnett Regional Council and the Queensland Government is another big step towards supporting local construction and tourism jobs. #supportlocal #UniteAndRecover

21.01.2022 Queensland has a clear plan for economic recovery, and we're already delivering it. What the LNP have is $23 billion worth of election commitments that they won't tell us how they're going to fund. We know that cutting, sacking and selling is in their DNA.... Last time they were in office, the LNP were preparing to sell the Gladstone Port and they need to tell the people of Gladstone whether they're planning to do it again. The LNP need to explain their plan and what they'll cut to fund it.

19.01.2022 Today at my shirts and signs stall we took the time to toast my loyal and dedicated supporter Karla Joan Sheppard on what would have been her 32nd birthday. There is no more appropriate time than now to send special thanks to my good friend retiring Member for Mundingburra, Minister Coralee ORourke whose portfolio encompassed the disability sector, for her compassion and untiring work for every Karla in Queensland during her time in the Queensland Parliament.

17.01.2022 Five years ago today I visited my lovely friend and loyal supporter Karla Joan Sheppard as she recovered from major surgery in the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. 17.01.2022 COVID-19 Update: No new cases today. The Deputy Premier also confirmed this morning that consideration was being given to underutilised FIFO work camps in Central Queensland as possible quarantine locations. As I said earlier in the week it was in the very early stages. This consideration has concluded and they wont be progressing with this option. ... It is important to note that this does not change the Palaszczuk Governments commitment to help Australians get home by taking additional overseas arrivals into hotel quarantine. Because we know that many Australians have been stranded overseas as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and we know how difficult this has been. As of 27th September QLDs cap will be expanded to 700 per week, and as of 4th October it will be expanded to 1000 per week.

10.01.2022 Disappointed I couldn’t attend the presentation night for the Gladstone Amateur Boxing Club last weekend but the photos filtering through are testament that the Club is ending another year on a hugely successful note. Congratulations to my good friend and loyal supporter Mick Daly for being named at the celebrations as a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition and appreciation by the The Rotary Club Of South Gladstone of his contribution to the community through the GLADSTONE AMATEUR BOXING CLUB. Well deserved Mick.
10.01.2022 The Palaszczuk Government has given Queensland’s domestic, family and sexual violence service providers a $2.5M boost to assist the sector in responding to the impacts of COVID-19. It is fantastic to see the Strong Communities Ltd as one of the successful recipients and as they assist victims of domestic and family violence and support them in the safest and most appropriate way for their induvial needs. The Strong Communities Ltd is well placed in our community, working with victims and perpetrators of domestic and family violence and the additional funding of $56,387 will assist with the increase in demand.
10.01.2022 BREAKING: The Premier is providing an important COVID-19 update
10.01.2022 As the final school bell sounds for Gladstone's Year 12 students this afternoon. I farewell and congratulate the class of 2020 who have experienced a year like no other. They have shown so much courage, resilience and patience during what’s been a very difficult time with COVID-19.

And now they are here in Gladstone, to expand their vital service. Today I represented Minister Di Farmer MP at the offi...cial opening. The Palaszczuk Government has invested $400,000 in Act for Kids Gladstone to provide counselling and support services to children and young people who have experienced sexual violence. It's one more milestone on the project that will deliver water security for Central Queensland, including Gladstone. Great to join Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor Tony Williams to mark the occasion.

Only a Labor Government can deliver the outcomes for our next generation. Thanks for the support to all of the superstars wearing red in Gladstone.
09.01.2022 Honoured to be sworn in as Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing and Minister for Water with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk MP at Government House this morning.
09.01.2022 Coercive control is a form of domestic and family violence. We need legislation to better protect victims. Today, we’re announcing who will chair a new independent taskforce to consult with survivors, service providers, experts and the community.
09.01.2022 The polls are open. Thanks to all the volunteers working on polling booths across the Gladstone electorate today. Spreading the message that 2020 is not the time to risk Deb and the LNP.

08.01.2022 A big shout out to my awesome 2020 Crew, on the campaign trail in red army colours every day. What a fantastic team.
08.01.2022 Had the opportunity this morning to have a tour of the Gladstone Hospitals West Wing (old Mater). There is extensive work to be carried out including a refurbish of the operating theatres to Qld Health Specifications, refurbish and upgrade to the amenities, purchase all new equipment and beds and full upgrades to theatre and building and IT. As you can see there is a lot that needs to be done before we can start seeing private and public patients in the wing. Was great to see... and talk to Oncology Patients who are now getting treatment in the wing as well as hearing that the existing tenants are carrying on business as usual. Thanks everyone for your patience while the upgrades happen and we are looking to start surgeries by the end of March next year. Great also to hear that they have signed up five visiting specialists and have local general surgeon Dr Rob Schreiber utilising the public facilities until the West Wing is open. This has been another $20 million investment in health additional to the new $42 million Accident and Emergency. See more

08.01.2022 This pandemic has been really tough for a lot of us. Looking after Queenslanders mental health is as important to our recovery effort as any other health or economic initiative. At the beginning of the pandemic we moved quickly to invest $28 million in community health and mental health services. Recently we announced an extra $46.5 million to support Queenslanders mental health and well-being through programs across the state.... And now, Queensland Health have launched the Dear Mind campaign. The website has some really good tips and resources for keeping on track during the uncertain times were experiencing. Check it out here - https://mentalwellbeing.initiatives.qld.gov.au/ Remember to make time for yourself, check on your mates and be kind to each other.
08.01.2022 Sending a huge shout out to the amazing staff in my Electorate office in Gladstone and my Ministerial office in Brisbane. Thank you all so much for the loyalty and devotion to your respective roles, you are appreciated by me every day.
08.01.2022 Today is White Ribbon Day 2020. It’s important that we all play our part to stamp out domestic and family violence in our community. Here in Gladstone we have the Coordinated Response to Domestic and Family Violence (CCRDFV) who coordinate a community based response to domestic and family violence. I encourage everyone in our community to donate to the local CCRDFV online or pop down to Bunnings on Sunday the 22nd to purchase a sausage sizzle. http://gladstoneccrdfv.com.au/get-involved/#donate
07.01.2022 I signed the pledge to oppose outsourcing of frontline health, education and ambulance services - United Workers Union. Deb Frecklington and the LNP have made $23 billion of election commitments while promising not to borrow money or raise taxes. So that can only mean one thing: cuts.... When she was Campbell Newmans Assistant Treasurer, Deb Frecklington sacked 14,000 workers. The question for the LNP is simple, cut what, cut where, cut who? Pictured here with some of our vital public servants, Yolanda who is a School Cleaner and Nick who is a Paramedic.
07.01.2022 Congratulations to the talented local Clifton Schulke and crew with rave reviews happening after the Premiere of Container at Gladstone Cinemas tonight.

Your dedication and hardwork makes such a difference to the students, teachers and the entire school community. THANK-YOU! Tag a teacher aide you know to show your appreciation
06.01.2022 I am getting pretty tired of comments that our Government is anti-coal and only concerned about renewables. We are committed to a plan toward renewables because it is the future. But, and this is important, Queensland and particularly regional Queensland was built on the back of many industries and in particular coal. I know how valuable the resource industry is to our State, its probably no more evident than right here in Gladstone. ... I stood on the grass with the workers from the Gladstone Power Station and I am committed to projecting their jobs. We know that there are many more years of coal mining and coal exporting to come, which is why our Government has endorsed plenty of large scale coal projects. I spoke about the Queensland resource sector in Parliament this week.
06.01.2022 What a great night on Saturday night at Gladstone Gladiators Swimming Club's 2019-20 Season Presentation Night. The Club had some great success this season despite the COVID disruptions. They will be back even bigger and better next season I am sure. Well done to all the award recipients. The Gladstone Aquatic Centre will undergo major upgrades during the off season thanks to a $1.23 million investment from the Palaszczuk Governments Works for Queensland Program. ... Including: Replacing starting platforms on 50m pool, pool shell investigations and tile repairs. Renewal works to the main amenities and 25m amenities buildings including bringing the disabled amenities up to Disabled Discrimination Act standards. Resurfacing of the Aquatic Play Park area, including the upgrading of the existing aquatic play equipment. Filtration plant upgrades including UV protection and backwash tank to 50m pool.
06.01.2022 Early Childhood Educator's Day is a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge and thank our early childhood educators for the great work they do day-in-day out. Particularly during these unprecedented times. The early childhood workforce has played such an incredibly important role in supporting Queensland families through the COVID-19 health pandemic by continuing to provide safe and engaging environments for children to play and learn. Along with parents and carers, educators a...re among the most influential factors on child wellbeing, development and learning. Which is why we have invested $80 million in a strategic plan to grow our qualified early educator work force and provide them with mentoring and leadership opportunities. Today I say thank you to all the early childhood educators across our great region.
06.01.2022 Yesterday I spoke in Parliament about the fantastic East Shores 1B Parklands development. This great community space has generated over 300 jobs and highlighted the importance of keeping the Gladstone Port in Queensland hands. The Port of Gladstone is truly a multi-commodity port driving our resources sector, our tourism sector and our agricultural sector. Plus everywhere you look in our region great community spaces are created and maintained by the GPC, including the award... winning East Shores. The Palaszczuk Government is investing in this profit making, job generating asset an integral part of the economic prosperity for our region and our state. The prosperity of the Gladstone Port means secure jobs for locals. I was thrilled to put this important project on the public record in Parliament. Gladstone Ports Corporation Auckland House Hutchinson Builders
06.01.2022 This is why I back Annastacia Palaszczuk MP.
06.01.2022 Only a few hours left to vote in this crucial election. Thanks to the red army for staying strong and sticking around at our polling booths. A vote for Labor is a vote for stability, security, and a plan for our economic recovery post Covid.
05.01.2022 Was excellent to have Minister Leeanne Enoch MP in Gladstone to visit Roseberry Qld to review the range of services they provide to the young people and families of the Gladstone community.
05.01.2022 Today is Yellow Ribbon Day, a day to say thank you to over 1,700 Rural Fire Service volunteers across the Gladstone Electorate. Last year across Queensland we saw how devastating the bushfire season can be, and it is thanks to our Rural Fire Service volunteers for giving up their time to keep us safe. THANK YOU! Since 2015 we have delivered more than 330 new appliances to Rural Fire Brigades. Thats an average of around 60 new trucks every single year. ... If you know an RFS volunteer, make sure you take the time today to say thank you. #YellowRibbonDay #YRD2020 Here is a collection of some of my favourite pics from over the years with our local RFS volunteers.
04.01.2022 Fantastic morning overlooking our magnificent harbour at Spinnaker Park for The Professionals Pink Ribbon Breakfast raising awareness and funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. A great surprise when Annastacia Palaszczuk MP paid a visit and took the opportunity to mingle and chat with guests. Thank you to all who attended and supported this great cause and thank you to The Professionals for hosting this fabulous successful event.
04.01.2022 It’s now starting to become clear who is spreading the vile posts on social media, this is disgraceful and needs to stop. To sit at a polling booth and take photos of people volunteering and then degrade them is beyond politics. Pretty sure your last name gives away your cover and all of your troll names, Clementine,
04.01.2022 Proud to have been reappointed as Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk MP and to be given new responsibilities as the Minister for Water. I am excited to get back to work championing regional Queensland and the manufacturing industry right around the state as we recover from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. I'm also looking forward to building on the Palaszczuk Government’s strong record on water security in Queen...sland. Unfortunately, I'm currently dealing with an injury which has left me in hospital and unable to attend today's swearing-in ceremony with my ministerial colleagues. I'll be back in action as soon as my condition allows.
04.01.2022 Queensland motorists are urged to lead the way and drive so others survive for National Road Safety Week, which runs from Sunday 15 November to 22 November. Each year, about 1200 people are killed in crashes on Australian roads, and another 44,000 are seriously injured. The Palaszczuk Government is delivering a record $25 billion for better roads and transport across Queensland, but we all have to remember to drive safely and avoid the fatal five.
04.01.2022 Love the Gladstone Christmas spirit, if you’re out and about head out to Katrina Boulevard and see the Municipal Band playing Christmas Carols. Playing till 7.30pm
03.01.2022 Dancing is back! Thanks to the hard work of all Queenslanders, we're easing restrictions further and it's time to get back on the dancefloor!
03.01.2022 *********** $34 MILLION *********** FOR GLADSTONE REGION SCHOOLS New classrooms, multi-purpose halls and facility upgrades will be part of a more than $34 million investment in new, modern school facilities across the Gladstone region under a re-elected Palaszczuk Labor Government.... Eight local schools will share in the funding that will provide important upgrades for teachers and students, while supporting local jobs during the economic recovery from COVID-19. There is millions of dollars being invested to improve schools across Gladstone and surrounding region. I’m proud to see the Palaszczuk Government investing in projects such as new multi-purpose halls, new learning spaces and better disability access included in these projects, Mr Butcher said. I’m especially pleased to see this funding will provide improved access to facilities for all students, ensuring our kids can participate fully in all school activities. It’s also great to see additional works to keep pace with growing enrolments at our schools. This new investment continues our government’s strong financial support for Gladstone region schools, including the $66.6 million investment in the new Calliope State High School. Only a Labor Government will continue to invest in our schools and teachers to provide better opportunities for local students now and into the future.
