25.01.2022 I’m SO EXCITED that Dietitians Australia and I are putting on a never-before-offered 6-part webinar series on the psychology of eating, weight, and body image! This training takes you through from the psychology behind these complex challenges through to the practical application of compassionate, evidence-based, and innovative strategies to support your clients who experience these all-too-common concerns! Best of all, the training welcomes all non-dietitians (such as nutritionists, intuitive eating counsellors, students, and other nutrition experts!) and - being completely online - can be done from the comfort of your own home (or office) anywhere in the world!!! For more info click here: https://bit.ly/3bqqS6P we’d love to have you join us and take the journey with you

16.01.2022 What a time in Sydney! I’ve been there for the last week recording my Audiobook (you know, the one you pushed to help make happen? ). On the first day - which was highly tough emotionally and practically - I realised that I couldn’t get the audiobook done in the quality you deserve in the time I had planned. With the help of my awesome publishers at @hachetteaus , the sound team at AUDIOBRIEN and my awesome team (thank you @emmasparenburg and @anchoring_nutrition ), I made... two hard decisions. 1) To NOT aim to finish it in the trip I had booked (I’ll be coming back again soon), and 2) To spend enough time before recording sessions doing a final polish up of the script (audiobook is different to book-book, and I knew in my heart the script I had been given - although great - wouldn’t be what it could be to be the most clear, easy to listen to, and transformational resource it could be - this meant spending hours after a recording day editing the following day’s recording - see picture two - and editing all weekend too!). While I’m exhausted - I feel like I’ve been hit by a Mack truck - I’m so happy we’ve done it this way, and want you to know that I will NEVER cut corners when it comes to helping you free yourself from Thinsanity so you can live the awesome life you are meant to live! I’m also really proud of myself for doing it this way (just as I did with the book book!) and there’s a lesson in here for all of us. Sometimes you have to do what you know is right in your heart, get all the support you can to help you through, and work your butt off, spending yourself in the pursuit of a cause that is meaningful to you. #thinsanity #audiobook #intuitiveeating #bodypositive #psychology @ Sydney Domestic Airport Terminal 3 See more

14.01.2022 Can you LOVE your body healthy? This time last week I was fortunate enough to present to about 300 @woolworths_au staff that the answer is a resounding YES (a few participants were lovely enough to stick around after to take this snap!). Thank you to @steviewring and @felicitycurtain for organising this wonderful and empowering event - the way you look after your people is amazing! I get the feeling the world is opening up to these ideas ... #bodyimage ... #bodypositivity #intuitiveeating #joyfulmovement #loveyourbody See more

14.01.2022 Hi all! This is Emma, Glenn's practice manager :D Glenn's just asked me to post here to let everyone know he won't be able to do a Facebook Live event this evening as he has a client issue he's dealing with. He said he will reschedule another live Facebook video where he will read something special that *didn't* make the book! I don't know what this is either, but knowing Glenn I'm sure it will be good!! :D

14.01.2022 Just Love Pears Nutrition made me into a meme! What is something that YOU can do this weekend to take care of yourself? I'm going to finish work early tomorrow, nurture my social self, and go to the pub! Seriously ;-) <3 :-D (Ps Just Love Pears is a great dietitian and health coach, be sure to give her a follow!) :-)

14.01.2022 Well, the audiobook is done ... I want to thank firstly my social media followers for pushing so hard to have the book made available in audio format. Without you it may not have happened, so I want you to know that (as well as getting your audiobook ) you’ve helped me on my mission to help as many people free themselves from Thinsanity as I can! I’d also like to thank my book publishing team at @hachetteaus and the audiobook publishers at @wavesoundaustralia for having fait...h in the (surprisingly massive) project of turning Thinsanity into an audiobook, as well as the team at Audiobrien for the countless hours spent putting it all together (especially Bruce - pictured in the last photo - who I’m sure needed the bottle of wine I gave him as a thank you for guiding me, supporting me, and graciously allowing me to say the same sentence seven times when he probably thought it sounded fine the first time)! A massive shout out to @emmasparenburg and @anchoring_nutrition for helping me ensure that EVERY WORD of the translation from book text to audiobook script was crafted to give the listener the best possible experience - and therefore the best ability to digest the sometimes counter-culture, nuanced, and abstract ideas in the book with the greatest of ease. The photos here are not glamorous - they represent the hundreds of hours editing, unnerving trips to Sydney, throat-straining recording sessions, and painstaking sound editing - the pain put into making the project what I know will be a wonderfully transformational agent-of change, and helping that many more people make peace with food, find joy in movement, love their bodies healthy, and otherwise free themselves from Thinsanity so they can live the awesome lives they’re supposed to live! (PS I don’t know exactly when it will be out, but soon, and if you ask for a discount because you already have the book-book I will tell politely tell you that I can’t because it’s up to the publisher - but secretly I will feel like throwing eggs at your house ) LOVE YOU PEEPS, happy Saturday!!! #intuitiveeating #psychologyofeating #bodypositive #thinsanity #audiobook See more

11.01.2022 In this special excerpt from the Thinsanity audiobook, I share the SURPRISING TRUTH about the Body Mass Index, from its unexpected origins to its unethical manipulation by big business to turn a profit. I advocate for a re-interpretation of BMI categories based on actual science (not paid-for/company sponsored science) and acknowledging the harmful effects of weight stigma, and even ponder the possibility that we’re all (finally) ready to be free of it This is a game-changing section of the audiobook (that is actually different from the book-book, as we had to work through some ‘legal issues’ before I could completely share these truths with you ), so please follow the link below to listen, and I’d love to hear about your thoughts and experiences with BMI! 10.01.2022 What are your favourite - and most RANDOM - ways to deal with emotional eating, non-hungry eating, or food cravings? I asked the members of our Twelve Month Transformation to 'think outside the box', share some creative ways that work for them, and try some new ones too ... Here's a great response (shared anonymously here with permission): "Since I mostly hit the pantry when I'm bored at work (work being at home, these days), I've 'borrowed' some of my daughter's clay and I've just been 'doodling' with it while I work. Nothing fancy, just random little figures and what I'm calling planets, but it keeps my hands busy and away from the food. And I can mash them up and start all over again, so no clutter! Win-win-win." See the first comment for my random (but effective) non-food mood manager, and I'd love to hear YOURS!

10.01.2022 Health Professionals! Weight stigma - and how it enters our health care practice - is such an important issue. Here is a study that takes only 10 mins to complete, but can help us understand - and reduce - it: https://tinyurl.com/y3pegsga Please look into it if you have the time :-)... (Ali Car) See more

07.01.2022 ‘Yes, that’s right: the BMI categories were not always as low as they are now’. We may say we don’t believe in BMI, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t affect the way we feel about ourselves. To my mind, the creation and manipulation of the BMI to suit the needs of big business was the first institutionalised stigmatisation of people living in heavier bodies, and underpins any desire we have to lose weight for medical reasons.... And it turns out, it’s TOTAL BS!! To find out more, listen to a special free excerpt from my new audiobook check it out here: https://bit.ly/3fv2mU3

02.01.2022 I actually hate the term ‘corona kilos’ To me, the fact that people are losing their jobs, not able to see their families for months on end, and even dying and we are worried about weight gain is an embodiment of the ‘thinsanity’ that I try every day to help people escape. But just because the person in the hospital bed next to you has an amputated leg, it doesn’t mean your broken leg doesn’t hurt as a practicing psychologist I know how heavily corona kilos are weighi...ng on people’s minds. So, I wanted to give you some extra support to help you overcome any concerns you are having about your eating, physical activity, and of course, weight during this undoubtedly strange, challenging and uncertain time. So, together with my colleague, world leading tapping researcher and master trainer Dr Peta Stapleton, we have put together a ‘tapping for corona kilos care package’, containing some mindset tips that my clients are finding super helpful at this time and, of course, some tapping! If you’re struggling with COVID-19 especially the affect it’s having on your eating, physical activity, or weight please check it out: https://bit.ly/2UHwpOW

02.01.2022 Normally I’m speaking (a) to a room of people or (b) to a computer screen while everyone is online ... today I did a bit of both speaking to a quiet auditorium (about 12 people who worked in the building were allowed in!) while all the other attendees tuned in online! It was a great morning and I’m so thankful to Joh from QuEDS for inviting me to talk about what our practice, some free resources we’ve developed, and my book can do to support people who experience eating dis...orders. It was also wonderful to sit in on the second presentation and hear the details of what @eatingdisordersqld have to offer - what was wonderful for me to learn about was the amazing support services they offer carers and families of people who struggle with eating disorders (please check them out if this is relevant for you!). Some wonderful little conversations were had and I’m sure some great bonds will be made and strengthened, even if we did have to socially distance (see last photo!). . . . #eatingdisorderrecovery #eatingdisordersupport #eatingdisorderawareness #anorexianervosarecovery #bulimiarecovery #bingeeatingrecovery See more

02.01.2022 Tapping is certainly a novel technique, and one a lot of people misunderstand. Admittedly, less than 10 years ago, I was a certified doubter myself! Until Dr Peta Stapleton's research came out, scientifically studying it (and showing some seriously amazing results!). Since her original tapping study in 2012 (and over several subsequent studies that I outline in the blog relating to this post), I have slowly become a convert, eventually developing an online program with Peta, ...and now becoming an advocate, researching our online program in two peer-reviewed journals (that I also discuss in this blog - the data in the image are results from people completing a worldwide clinical trial of online tapping!). Certainly, any new technique is going to have its critics, but I believe with the evidence amounting for it now, it's hard to argue that there's not something to it (indeed in this blog I present some data to suggest that it may be more accessible, work more quickly, and last longer than some of the things we traditionally do to take care of ourselves). The link to the full blog is here: https://bit.ly/2Z5pYqw Happy reading, and I'd love to know your thoughts on this innovative and unique technique! See more
