25.01.2022 South Australia will reopen its borders to regional Victoria from midnight tonight, the Premier Steven Marshall has confirmed. But SA is maintaining a hard bord...er with Greater Melbourne - that will only be lifted after 14 days of no community transmission in Victoria. Currently that would be on February 25. 25.01.2022 Hope this includes the river.
24.01.2022 We need to have this trailer placed in Red Cliffs for all to see. I hope somebody has some land available to allow the restoration to be finished.
24.01.2022 And rightly so.
23.01.2022 Meanwhile the Murray Basin Rail Project sits abandoned by the State leaving rail as a third world option to move freight around Victoria. What a disgrace.
23.01.2022 This is of great concern to our region.
23.01.2022 At last a court makes a sensible decision
22.01.2022 Former media and political adviser to the Howard government Ian Hanke says if the Andrews government’s Omnibus bill is pushed through upper house it would mean the civil liberties of Victorians are swept away. More: https://bit.ly/2SbXcRU

19.01.2022 100 years ago today - The Weekly Times reported on the progress of the clearing at Red Cliffs, and what was likely to happen next. Their photographer also got a... good look at how things were going. "No time is being lost in clearing land at the Red Cliffs settlement, near Mildura, and making small blocks ready for soldier settlers under irrigation methods. The illustrations in another part of this issue of 'The Weekly Times' furnish an excellent idea of the work that is engaging the attention of 300 men, whose activities are being directed by expert officers of the Water Commission. When in the district recently, Mr Cattanach, chairman of the Water Commission, informed intending settlers that the land was being cleared as fast as possible so that it could be allotted in suitably sized blocks to qualified soldier settlers. Numbers of qualification certificates had already been given to men working in the Mildura-Merbein district, and at Red Cliffs, but another meeting of the Qualifying Board was desirable in order to discuss the merits of men working at the Cliffs who had not yet qualified. It was possible that men who had not a great experience on the land might thus be given a good chance. The Commission, Mr Cattanach said, meant to keep the clearing of Red Cliffs land in their own hands. The timber question was serious, and the cutting must be kept under one control for fear of wastage. No valuable wood should be destroyed. The value of timber had advanced 50 per cent. Considerable work had already been done at Red Cliffs, and considering that many of the men were not used to the labor, the result was good. Up to date clearing had cost about 13 an acre. As the men got more used to the work the cost would perhaps be reduced to 11. As there would be from 7 to 8 worth of timber an acre the cost of clearing would work out at about 4 an acre. The irrigated area would be credited with the value of the timber. It was expected, said Mr Cattanach, that blocks averaging approximately 15 acres each and covering 5000 acres, would be ready for allotment at the end of the present year. Although it was difficult to obtain suitable machinery and pumping outfits, it was anticipated that irrigation water would be available in August of next year. In regard to the price of land to the soldier, it was believed that it could be fixed at 16 an acre over a term of 36 years. The Commission was trying to make 5000 acres available as soon as possible, and he had no reason to believe that they would not be able to make things go by the date stated; in the meantime they were trying to make the men as comfortable as possible. The co-operation of the men with the Commission was needed, and the Commissioners thought if that could be obtained prospective settlers would be glad they came to Red Cliffs. Replying to questions at a meeting of men who are working at Red Cliffs, and are hopeful of obtaining qualification certificates, Mr Cattanach said it was hoped that by the time the land was ready there would be blocks available for all applicants. It was felt that the men who stuck to the Commission in getting the work through would have a big chance. It was considered 15 acres would be sufficient for men to make a good living. The Commission would try to supply a limited quantity of water for domestic and other purposes at an early date. It would be difficult, concluded Mr Cattanach, to say how many certificates would be issued at the end of the present year, but the number of blocks available should break the back of the demand. The first allocation in December should fairly well exhaust certificates in view.
19.01.2022 As I keep saying, this is the regions biggest issue and it needs to be addressed urgently by the State Government. The Deputy PM has made it quite clear the responsibility lies with the State to fix the mess they have made.
18.01.2022 The State Government continues to ignore Mildura’s need for fast reloable freight transport. While we are voiceless in Spring Street they will continue to get away with their abysmal treatment of country Victoria.

16.01.2022 EXPENSIVE PARTY: Police have dished out $24,780 worth of fines after they caught 15 people partying at a house in Mildura. 16.01.2022 Andrews wasted government funding in the first stage of the Murray Basin Rail Project as identified by the Auditor General and now looks set to waste another $200 million and the MBRP is nowhere near complete, will Andrews ever deliver decent infrastructure to Victoria?
15.01.2022 This government could not be more shameful, they are destroying Victoria for no reason at all.

13.01.2022 Raised this issue with Andrew Broad about 4 or 5 years ago and the Feds weren't interested, this move is the most sensible and reasonable one that could be made. This will protect the workers from the dodgy operators and also safeguard their health and safety. We need these people as they are honest, hard working and reliable. Bring it on.
13.01.2022 Excellent article in the Heraldsun
10.01.2022 STAY MASKED Victorians will be required to wear face masks when outside the home for some time to come. And face shields, bandannas and scarfs will no longer be acceptable: https://bit.ly/36piR1x
07.01.2022 Good article and food for thought as Victoria faces huge debt, collapsed economy and a tough road to recovery.
06.01.2022 Great sign for our local economy
04.01.2022 And now for the good news
03.01.2022 It’s about time Labor delivered a project properly as promised, up to standard, meeting specifications and on budget. Their attitude to Rural and Regional Victoria is abysmal, they clearly have no vision for anyone outside of Melbourne. We are Victorians too. Jacinta Allan has dumped the MBRP today claiming it is for another government to do. Labor has failed the people, failed to deliver a project and basically conned the Federal Government out of $200 million. Victoria is in a mess and needs a nee Government that has an ability to govern honestly with accountability.
03.01.2022 At least this project is well underway with Federal support.
