25.01.2022 Sunlight is the main source of blue light, and being outdoors during daylight is where it is most prevalent. There are also many man-made, indoor sources of blue light, including fluorescent and LED lighting and flat-screen televisions. Protecting your eyes at all times and in all situations is vitally important. One of the easiest ways to do so is to have a multi-coating on your lenses. These coatings, as part of their functions, block UV light, protecting your eyes from the rays that will harm your eyes.

25.01.2022 Santa has his eyes tested every year to make sure he's ready to take the sleigh out on Christmas Eve. Make sure you have your eyes tested regularly by calling us on 62729407 to book an appointment, or book online at https://glenorchyeyecare.com.au/

24.01.2022 So many different eyes, all doing the same job, in so many different ways. From the eyes of an elephant, with a visual range of only 8 metres, to the chameleon with it's individually moving eyes, to the peregrine falcon, who can see up to 3 kilometres away, there are no two eyes the same. Not even in the same head! #amazingeyes

23.01.2022 Heterochromia is a generally benign condition affecting the iris (the coloured part of your eye). With heterochromia you may have two different coloured eyes, or you may have different colours within the iris of one or both eyes. It's relatively common within certainly breeds of cats and dogs, but rare in humans. Most cases are present at birth, but in some people can develop the condition as a result of an illness. If you notice your eyes are changing colour, it is time for an appointment with your optometrist. Otherwise, just enjoy the beauty of nature in these glorious photos.

22.01.2022 Here are a few more strange and unusual frames that you won't be finding on our racks, but it's fun to look and giggle. #whatweretheythinking #statementspex #overthetopmuch?

21.01.2022 Remember Mum's nagging about "Eat your greens"? Well, turns out she was right. Green vegetables, especially leafy ones, have lots of lutein which does wonders for your eyes (and the rest of you).

15.01.2022 It's coming on to Summer and we have a new range of sunnies! Polaroid sunglasses were actually the world's first polarized sunglasses, being invented in 1937. Some people ask what the difference is between polarized lenses and other sunglass lenses. Plain tinted lenses are placed in a vat of dye and they soak up the colour, which reduces the intensity of light. That suits a lot of people, but others have a glare sensitivity, and that's where polarized lenses come in. Polarization has a special filter that cuts out glare as well as light. Polarized lenses are also excellent for seeing INTO water, which makes them excellent for fishermen and other water sportsmen. #Polaroid #polarizedsunglasses #cuttheglare

06.01.2022 It's Avocado day! These fruit were first eaten in Mexico as far back as 8000BC. Cultivation followed from approximately 3000BC. Originally known as the alligator pear, the fruit is now popular worldwide and known as the avocado. A single ounce of avocado contains 80 micrograms of luteinmost lutein supplements only give you 10 mcg! So, what is lutein? It's an anti-oxidant that directly benefits your retina. This means avocados help prevent age related macular degeneration. #Avocados #Avocadoday

01.01.2022 Astigmatism is a common eye condition that occurs when the cornea or the lens of your eye is not spherical. The surface of the cornea is shaped more like a football instead of round like a basketball, which is the usual shape, so it causes blurry vision, as seen in the bottom example in our picture here. An eye examination and new glasses will fix the problem for you and you can go on your way to a new life of no more blurriness. Contact us online at https://glenorchyeyecare.com.au/ or ring 62729407 to make an appointment.

01.01.2022 There are several small adjustments we can make to ease eye strain. Consider posture and lighting and, if necessary, adjust chair, desk or computer positions. #makeitworkforyou #glenorchyeyecare
