As a respected and highly regarded member of the local, and indeed worldwide banding community he put Australia, Tasmania and Hobart squarely on the banding map. Layton will be sorely missed by all: his contributions to the banding community have positively influenced the lives o...f many. Our condolences to the Hodgetts family and the Derwent Valley musical community.

19.01.2022 We're thrilled to announce the appointment of Andrew MacLean as Music Director of Glenorchy City Community Brass. Andrew has been involved in community banding since the late 1960s. He started as beginner with the Skellerup Woolston Auxiliary Band on cornet. Andrew has played in concert bands, big bands, and brass bands in New Zealand, Great Britain, USA and Australia. He first conducted a brass band at the age of 14 and has since conducted brass bands, concert bands, choirs... and orchestras in New Zealand, England, USA and Australia. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Education (Music) degree and is a passionate music educator. Over the last 40 years Andrew has worked with many inspirational conductors and educators including Ola Rudner, Kevin Power, Eric Ball, Dr Nancy Weir, Norman Goffin, Patrick Pickett, and Richard Gill. Andrew is a passionate music educator and is delighted to be the new Music Director of the Glenorchy City Community Brass. Welcome Andrew!

17.01.2022 Congratulations to Rolf Miezitis, who was recently awarded life membership of Glenorchy City Concert Brass. Rolf has been a member of GCCB for 33 years. During this time he has made a significant contribution to the musical and social life of the bands as (to name just a few of his roles) playing member, assistant conductor, librarian, tutor, roadie and canteen supervisor. Congratulations again Rolf, you are part of the fabric of our organisation!

13.01.2022 Glenorchy City Concert Brass is delighted to welcome our new Music Director, Simon Reade. The A grade band has worked with Simon as a guest conductor on three occasions in the last few years and we are excited to have him take up the role permanently. Simon is a well known and respected musician both locally and nationally. If you would like to read more about him, there is a link to his bio in the comments.

12.01.2022 Tonight, the A grade band was able to return to rehearsals. It was so great to see everyone in person again and play together after such a long forced break. For many band members it is a rare event to be away from the rehearsal room for so long. We hope all of our interstate and international colleagues are staying safe.
