21.01.2022 GDFC 2020 ‘Roy Cazaly Medal’ - Junior Products Star. This past Saturday at the annual ‘Roy Cazaly Medal’, it was great to see some of the fantastic products of our Junior Club recognised. Jude Saavedra won the U/18s B&F, while Brandon Oates took out the Development League B&F as a 16 year old in his first season of TSL football. Both Jude & Brandon have come through our Junior/Youth ranks and are fantastic representatives of the excellent pathways on offer a...t our club. Both have also been involved as leaders in the Fall/NAB Academy and have a very bright future ahead of them. Ty Turner was also awarded for his strong performance in the Development League, whilst Callum Thompson & Luke Nicholson also took out awards as excellent products of the Claremont Junior Football Club. The future at GDFC is bright and the talent across the Northern Suburbs is evident. Congratulations gents, some massive achievements here. #HotPies #TheNest

18.01.2022 U13 GIRLS - Season Review! Stepping out of the junior league and into their first year in the youth competition, what a debut it was. Fielding the same team from the previous year with a couple of omissions the girls had a cracking season fielding only 12 players with their first loss not being until round 5. They continued to dominate until the semi-finals where they were only just knocked out of the big dance. The girls had an incredible season showing so much dedic...ation, improvement and loyalty to the nest. For the first time for this team, they participated in the Beakley medal count and B&F evening. A notable mention for Brooklyn Jones who came third in the count for her age group at the Beakley Awards! Also a big congratulations to the following award winners: BEST & FAIREST WINNER - Brooklyn Jones BEST & FAIREST RUNNER UP - Holly Bristow MOST CONSISENT - Aivah Sproule MOST IMPROVED - Brooke Dare COACHES AWARD - Lilly Holbrook-Dobson GOLDEN BOOT - Brooklyn Jones Coach Taylah Emanuel was incredibly proud of her group, she had this to say... ‘This is my second year with these girls and its amazing to see the dedication of the same faces showing up to training each week, we get others coming and going but I know I can rely on these girls. They are unrecognisable in comparison to last year and it just says so much about them as players and as a team. In such a difficult year I’m so proud to have such a resilient, hard working, talented team who persevered regardless of the situation. Id also like to say a big thanks to the parents who not only made sure the girls showed up each week but helped me out with admin roles, goal umpiring, and whatever else I asked. Couldn’t do it without them! I have been working closely with the club and we have some big plans for this team girls for 2021, stay tuned. Congratulations girls on a great season and we can’t wait to see you back in 2021! #HotPies #TheNest #ThisGirlCan

14.01.2022 100 GDFC Games for Zak Maynard. In Round 1 of the 2020 season, Zak played in his 100th game for our club. From there, Zak went on to have a ripping season where he finished runner-up in the league B&F and kicked 63 goals in 11 games to take out the league leading goal-kicking with an average of 5.73 goals per game . He also found the time to sneak in a premiership win as part of our U15C team. Just as his family has been across the years, Zak has remained loya...l and committed to our great club. In great reward for his effort, Zak played 2 games in our U/18s this year as a 15 year old and looks well on his way to success at a Senior level. Congratulations mate and thank you for your service. We can’t wait to see many more games from you in the Black & White. #HotPies #TheNest

13.01.2022 U/15G Team Review. Playing in an incredibly tight competition with a mixture of new & returning girls throughout a COVID impacted year; this year was a challenging one to say the least! The girls were putting in big work and making massive improvements ready for a huge 2021 season prior to the shutdown of community football. Upon their return, the girls carried on the great work and were fantastic early in the season as they won 3 of their first 5 games along with a g...ritty draw against North Hobart. But in the back-half of the season and as the long season took its toll through numerous injuries, the girls narrowly missed out on finals. Congratulations to all of their 2020 Award Winners; BEST & FAIREST - Hayley Browning BEST & FAIREST RUNNER-UP - Mikayla Booth COACHES AWARD - Brooke Thornton MOST CONSISTENT - Halle Whitehead MOST IMPROVED - Lucy Hollingsworth The girls’ first game against Sandy Bay White was a real highlight, as well as their courageous loss to eventual Premiers Claremont by just 10 points in Round 9. It was also great to have 4 members of the U/15 Girls play with our Premiership winning U/17 Girls. Throughout the ups and downs of a challenging year, the girls showed plenty of promise and character. A huge thank you to Nick Brooks, Leigh Wagner & Jamie Preshaw for your work in supporting the girls throughout the season and developing their football. The amazing team managers of Julie Whitehead and Jo Fisher ensured the girls and coaches were always ready to go and that things would run smoothly; you guys did an amazing job! To the various parents, friends and family who assisted with goal umpiring, transport, pre-game hair ties etc your support is very much appreciated. We can’t wait to see these girls back in the Black & White ready for 2021. #HotPies #TheNest #ThisGirlCan

13.01.2022 U/9 Girls - Season Review. What a season for the these little legends! Starting the year with 6 players, word soon spread about all the fun we were having! Before we knew it, we had 10 girls signed-up and were the largest team in the U/9 Girls competition. Coached by Jack Anders & Joel Berry, the improvement from these girls throughout the year was absolutely incredible. They brought energy, positivity and a strong team spirit to what was a challenging and ‘s...top-start’ year. The U/9 Girls competition was a fun and supportive one to be apart of and we wanted to thank Claremont, Clarence and Kingborough for the fantastic battles we had throughout the season. Rain, hail or shine, these girls were often playing when other games had been cancelled! We can’t wait to see these girls continue to grow and develop as they transition into the 2021 chapter of their football journey. Absolute legends and full of good vibes, congratulations on a great year girls. #HotPies #TheNest #ThisGirlCan

11.01.2022 Photo & Medallion day for our Auskickers this Sunday! With photos, mini-matches and medallion presentations, it’s set to be a pretty exciting day for our little legends. With the session this Sunday, a friendly reminder that there is NO AUSKICK TONIGHT. If all Auskickers could wear their GDFC gear on Sunday, that would be fantastic. See you there! ... #HotPies #TheNest #LittleLegends

08.01.2022 U/15C - Season Review. Starting their pre-season with challenges of low numbers and no official coach, the boys were then challenged further due to the impacts of COVID-19 and a break from footy. With this break, we as a club put in the time to appoint a consistent coaching group to take the boys forward and once they returned for the shortened season, there was no looking back! The focusses for the boys throughout the year were simple; skills, decision making and wor...k rate. With PK & Deegz working with Scotty and Reg, the boys were doing many of the drills and structure work that was being implemented across our TSL program and you could really see the boys rise to the standard that was being set for them. Congratulations to all of their 2020 Award Winners; BEST & FAIREST - Izayah Conrad BEST & FAIREST RUNNER-UP - Brodie Laycock COACHES AWARD - Zak Maynard MOST CONSISTENT - Blake Belbin MOST IMPROVED - Indi Woolley BEST IN FINALS - Kayne Edge GOLDEN BOOT - Zak Maynard (League leading goal-kicker) The clear highlight for the fellas was their Grand Final win against Huonville. The boys were yet to beat the Lions during the season from their 3 previous attempts; that all changed in the Grand Final! In a game where momentum swung back-and-forth, the boys showed resiliency, toughness and grit in holding on for a 4 point win. A huge thank you to coaches Reg Berry, Scott Taylor, Paul Kennedy & James Deegan; Runner Dean Saunders and Team Manager Sally Saunders. Without the energy and commitment that you displayed throughout 2020, there is no way the boys could’ve done it! To all of the parents who assisted with goal umpiring, banner making and any other odd jobs that popped up, your help is very much appreciated! In the coming week, we are excited to be formally announcing our Youth Boys coaches and we hope to see all of these legends back in the Black & White. #HotPies #TheNest

06.01.2022 2021 - U/14 Boys Coaches. We’re excited to announce that Joel Berry, Tim Doyle & Jed Morgan will be returning to coach our U/14 Boys for Season 2021. After a massive year of improvement and heading into their 3rd year at the helm, we can’t wait to see this group continue to develop and really challenge the top teams in their competition. Joel, Tim & Jed are still waiting to hear on the status of prized Runner/Commentator/Basketballer Sam Berry and just how much... he’ll be able to commit with his increasing study commitments. Outside of Sam’s indecision, we’re pretty confident with the guidance and experience that these three will continue to bring to our 14s Group. If you’re a boy heading into Grade 8 next year and you’re keen to give football a try, contact our Facebook Page directly for more information. #HotPies #TheNest

04.01.2022 U/16.5 Team Review. This group did themselves proud from the moment they started training last November, putting in a huge pre-season and showing great improvement as a result. Despite having nine U16-eligible players promoted up to the senior list, this group stayed strong and averaged more than 20 players per night at training during the season as they built up some outstanding camaraderie and operated in a highly-professional manner. Congratulations to all of... their 2020 Award Winners; BEST & FAIREST - Jarrod Greenwood BEST & FAIREST RUNNER-UP - Jack Males COACHES AWARD - Declan Modrijan MOST CONSISTENT - Jakob Quarrell MOST IMPROVED - Fletcher Salter The highlight of the year was a thrilling 5-point win over Clarence, a team this group had never beaten all the way through juniors, and who defeated them by 215 points at the start of 2019. The game see-sawed throughout, but a brilliant second quarter and a resilient final term to hold off the charging Roos proved the difference. Two other highlights were a pair of incredible night games at KGV, one a two-point win over the second-placed Southern Storm, the other a two-point loss to a quality North Hobart outfit, the boys showing on both nights they can play high-quality football and compete with the best. A huge thank you to team manager Kelly Males and coach Paul Kennedy, along with Ross Meredith, Jordan West, Elissa Burgess, Ali Blackwell, Peta Barnett and Braidy Simpson, who all provided great support to the boys throughout the year, and a big thanks to Zach Ion, Jaidyn Ford-Wolfe and Fletcher Salter for their help on senior match days. We can’t wait to see these boys back in the Black & White for season 2021. #HotPies #TheNest

02.01.2022 U/13 BOYS - Season Review! What a massive year of improvement for these legends. As a team who won 0 games in 2019, it was amazing to see these boys not only win some games, but make their way to a semi-final! At our recent Youth B&F evening, the following boys were award winners from this group:... BEST & FAIREST WINNER - Nayte Dobson. BEST & FAIREST RUNNER-UP - Ethan Conallin. MOST CONSISTENT - Callum Hickey. MOST IMPROVED - Seth Tonks. COACHES AWARD - Harry Tew. Coaches Joel Berry, Tim Doyle, Jed Morgan and Sam Berry did a phenomenal job in developing strong relationships with the boys and strongly contributed to enhancing the skills, knowledge and values of the boys. We thank the coaches for their contributions throughout the year, whilst we also thank team manager Claire Maynard and resident goal umpire Steve Tew for their volunteer contributions. Coach Joel Berry has said on the year... ‘These boys are an incredible group to coach and I’m so lucky to be apart of their football journey. We really focussed on looking for action as opposed to excuses when times got tough. We wanted the boys to understand that both life and football will throw us challenges, but our responses will shape the results we receive, not the challenges themselves. I’m so thankful for my assistant coaches and team staff and we couldn’t have done it without them. I can’t wait to get back to work with these legends and further watch them develop as footballers, young men and proud Glenorchy players’. A great year fellas and we can’t wait to see you back!

01.01.2022 U/17 Girls - Season Review. With a couple of false starts and plenty of challenges, these girls have had an incredible journey at the Nest. Starting their season with strong numbers at training and plenty of effort and talent on display, there was a tonne of potential across the group. Ups and downs throughout the year, we loved seeing the girls progress throughout the year. Congratulations to all of their 2020 Award Winners; ... BEST & FAIREST - Talia Drake BEST & FAIREST RUNNER UP - Hayley James COACHES AWARD - Frankie Stringer MOST CONSISTENT - Nakisha Grimsey MOST IMPROVED - Zoe Woolley GOLDEN BOOT - Nakisha Grimsey BEAKLEY MEDAL RUNNER UP - Hayley James The clear highlight for the girls was their Grand Final win against Claremont. Heading into North Hobart Oval, the girls were full of nerves and excitement. In an incredible game played in wet and cold conditions, the girls powered through overtime to emerge deserving winners. A huge thank you to coaches Lance Rowbottom, Laura Negri and Taylah Emanuel, along with runner Sarah Seabourne. Your calm and consistent nature with the girls went along way in their success. To all of the parents who assisted with goal umpiring, banner making and any other odd jobs that popped up, they couldn’t have done it without you!
