24.01.2022 President John McCann has penned a passionate letter thanking Jaye Bowden for his contribution to the club, highlighting the long legacy he inherited and the incredible legacy he leaves: "The Bowden name has long been associated with the Glenorchy District Football Club," Mr McCann wrote. "Although Jaye took on the mantel of that greatly respected name and champion tradition from grandfather Roy, father Michael (and maternal grandfather Norm Handley) at KGV, he did it in his ...own way. "Jaye has always been a thorough professional, going about the process of harnessing his great talents in an unassuming way to assist this Club to achieve great outcomes. "His personal style over time has made him a respected Club life member with players , coaches, volunteers, staff and importantly supporters. "Jaye loves the Club and has stayed incredibly loyal to it in the face of many lucrative offers elsewhere and of course the wearing down burden of injury. "For that we will always be appreciative, and fortunate that he played at the club for such a long period..." 23.01.2022 Missing a bevy of midfield prime movers, the Pies needed some guys to step up big time on the weekend at KGV. 22.01.2022 A huge thank you to all our wonderful Volunteers for their incredible work in what was a testing year for many in our community. Not only did they keep our senior teams running, get our junior sides on the ground, get bingo humming again, pack to be trucked around Tasmania to those in need and deliver parcels to people's doors in our Northern Heartland , or ... ... they also followed the COVID rules at our Volunteer Thank You Night at KGV! ... Thank you so much to all our volunteers, you are truly the best!

22.01.2022 Get along to KGV today to see our girls take on Kingborough at 12.30pm!

22.01.2022 The Clarence, Glenorchy and Launceston Football Clubs are strongly committed to maintaining high-level women's football in Tasmania. Following AFL Tasmania's decision to cease operating the Tasmanian State League Women (TSLW), our three clubs are now investigating all options to maintain a high-level women's competition, both on an interim basis for 2021 and a sustainable long-term basis beyond. We are now meeting with commercial, football and community partners - who share o...ur view that women's football needs both high-level and community-level competitions to cater for all participants - to try and achieve those goals. The growth in women's football in Tasmania in recent years has been significant, but the growth that will occur in the coming years, as new generations of talented and committed players emerge from junior girls competitions, will be at another level altogether. Our clubs believe it is vital to have an aspirational pathway for these girls to strive for - as is the case with women's state leagues in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia - local role models for them to emulate, and professional environments for them to develop to the best of their potential. The nine young women drafted to the AFLW from TSLW clubs is testament to that, as is the impressive rise in standard of the TSLW in recent years, something that is widely-acknowledged in the football community. We stand firm that high-level women's football must be maintained in Tasmania in 2021, while we work to identify the best state-league model to cater for the huge increase in talented female players who will soon emerge into senior ranks, and those are the outcomes we are committed to. Sandra Boland - President Launceston Football Club John McCann - President Glenorchy District Football Club Margaret Sutherland - President Clarence Football Club

Perri won the Best Player in the Finals award for our TSLW team this year, and set the tone with her incredible intensity all through the season. Read more about her great achievement here: https://womens.afl//another-prespakis-named-in-2021-academ... Perri's selection is on top of Clarence's Sam Banks being one of just 21 players selected into the 2021 AFL Academy and North Launceston premiership star Rhyan Mansell being added to Richmond's pre-season squad. With Launceston's Isaac Chugg and North Hobart's Patrick Walker recently making it 8 former Tasmanian State League players scooped up by AFL clubs in the past three years, the TSL and TSLW continue to produce great talent and great football!

13.01.2022 Unfortunately we couldn’t get over the line to give retiring star, Jaye Bowden, the perfect sendoff, but he was brilliant again today in the Pies nail-biting 3-point loss against North Hobart. Many thanks to the The North Hobart Football Club who formed a guard of honour after the game to salute the ‘Prince of KGV’.

13.01.2022 Jaye Bowden kicks the first goal of the match in his final game, and we are away at North Hobart Oval!

12.01.2022 A great opportunity to get involved as part of the Junior/Youth Sub-Committee. A very rewarding experience and one that really shapes the next generation of our great club. Why not get involved?

11.01.2022 It was great to have the Sherrins out again last night as our 16-20 year-olds returned to on-field training. It was also fantastic to see some of our leaders, including Harrison Gunther and skipper Brayden Webb, back on the track early to help our emerging stars. Despite the windy conditions it was a sharp night, and a strong start to our march towards 2021, with 56 players on the track across two intense sessions.

11.01.2022 Have you ever wondered how the team uniforms magically turn up game after game sparkling white?? Well it is a big thanks our wonderful volunteers known as the ‘Motley CREW’. Peter Grub, Leon Carr, Ray Careless, Barry Connolly & Peter Warburton- not pictured* are who we know and love as the motley crew, they among other things spend their Monday’s scrubbing & washing the men’s Jerseys. Until recently the motley crew have been using the facilities at the local laundromat. ... The ‘Sunday school’ have changed this, they generously donated $1000 for a brand new much needed washing machine! We also received a second-hand washing machine, giving us our own little laundry mat. Armed with the new laundry facilities at KGV, with a little help from our old mate Sard Wonder Soap (which they swear by) the Motley Crew continue to without complaint serve our great club. Our Biggest thank you to The Motley Crew for your commitment to the GDFC & The Sunday School for making this happen.

10.01.2022 On Saturday night, our club was delighted to award Leigh McAdam the prestigious Danny Ling Medal as the best clubperson of 2020, due to his immense work as part of our Northern Heartland Community Project. Leigh stepped up enormously to help our local community during the uncertainty of the COVID outbreak, packing countless food hampers at Foodbank Tasmania, and volunteering week after week to deliver food parcels on behalf of the West Moonah Community House and the Migrant R...esource Centre Tasmania. Club coach Paul Kennedy said: "Leigh's contribution this year has been remarkable and completely selfless, giving so much of his time to help out others in a time of genuine need and uncertainty. "For some in our community who lost their jobs or housing, the impact of COVID is ongoing, and Leigh continues to give his time to deliver food every week. He is a most deserving winner of this award." Congratulations and thank you Leigh!

07.01.2022 After 243 games and 547 goals as a Magpie, one of Glenorchy’s greatest, Jaye Bowden, is calling time on his illustrious state league career. Bowden arrived at KGV from Brighton juniors as a 15 year-old, and debuted in the senior team as a defender in 2006 aged 17. Of course, he would go on to make his name as a damaging midfielder and prolific goal-kicker, becoming just the second Glenorchy player after Peter Hudson to kick 500 career goals in Round 3 last season, when he... booted six goals in a 62-point win over Clarence at Bellerive. After 17 years of calling the place home and the countless number of memories and life-long mates that I have made, the time feels right for me to call it a day, Bowden said. I can't thank everybody at the club enough for the contribution they have all made towards my career, be it big or small, with the things we have achieved along the way. Bowden played in the 2007 and 2008 SFL premiership sides and had arguably his best season to lead the Magpies to the 2016 TSL flag, booting 85 goals in 21 games to firmly etch his name in Glenorchy folklore. It’s rare in this day and age to be able to farewell a player who is truly a living legend of the club, coach Paul Kennedy said. The fact Jaye contributed at such a high level for so long, helping the club to multiple premierships and playing his entire career at Glenorchy when so many other options beckoned, means he will rightly be talked about in the same breath as legends like Cazaly, Hudson and Ling when people look back over the history of our club. Bowden has claimed a record six Roy Cazaly medals as Glenorchy Best & Fairest and led the club’s goalkicking six times. He earned Life Membership of the club in 2015 and became the first player awarded TSL Life Membership last year. Bowden also represented Tasmania on seven occasions, won three Alistair Lynch medals as TSL Best & Fairest, three Peter Hudson medals as TSL leading goalkicker, and has been named in the TSL Team of the Year nine times. Bowden’s final game in front of the Magpie faithful will be this Sunday at North Hobart Oval, and the Glenorchy District Football Club will host celebratory events in Jaye’s honour next season.

06.01.2022 We're so proud of Zak! He has done an incredible job this year, as did all his U15 teammates - their improvement was amazing. One thing we absolutely love at Glenorchy is helping our youth boys grow into good young men who set a great example!
