13.01.2022 The opening of the Glenorchy RSL Special Olympic Bocce Courts held on 20 May 2012 was blessed with pleasant weather and good company, with Minister Scott Bacon, Glenorchy Mayor Stuart Slade (also President and Chairman of RACT) joining Special Olympic Athletes and Officials, Bocce Tasmania and Glenorchy RSL Bocce Club Members to help celebrate. All went very well, with the President of the Bocce Federation of Tasmania Andrea Ramondino formally welcoming every one to the celeb...ration, who then invited Minister Scott Bacon to say a few words on this fantastic achivement, all whilst a BBQ was cooking up a storm. Special Olympics Tasmania General Manager Alison Mosely replyed to the Minister and Presidents speaches. Both Andrea Alison commented on the collaboration across all forms of Government, and their respective organisations, that occured in completing the project. The first official end of Bocce played on the Glenorchy RSL Special Olympic Bocce Courts was played out in front of very enthusiastic Special Olympics Athletes and supporters as well as Glenorchy RSL Bocce Club players, with a training session held soon after for the Special Olympic Athletes run by coach Michael Mundy. It was great to see Special Olympic Athletes mixing with Bocce Club Members, with both Minister Bacon and Glenorchy Mayor Stuart Slade also proving that they may have a hidden talent for bowls sports. Check out some of the photo's from the day in our facebook photo album. The Special Olympic Bocce Athletes in the will be training at the Glenorchy RSL Bocce Club each Sunday for the next 10 weeks. Anyone interested in participating or helping out with Special Olympics Bocce in Southern Tasmania can ring coach Michael Mundy on 0419 567 051.
