24.01.2022 NSW Health is calling on people in the Rouse Hill area to get tested if they have even the mildest COVID-19 symptoms after the state’s sewage surveillance progr...am detected traces of the virus in the area. The catchment takes sewage from approximately 120,000 people. Fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 have been detected in samples taken on Thursday 5 November from the sewerage system that drains parts of Quakers Hill, Castle Hill, Annangrove, Kellyville, Box Hill, Kenthurst, Glenhaven, The Ponds, Rouse Hill, North Kellyville, Kellyville Ridge, Beaumont Hills, Stanhope Gardens, Baulkham Hills, Glenwood, Bella Vista, Parklea, Acacia Gardens and Norwest. The positive sewage result can be due to shedding of the virus by someone who may have previously had the illness, with the virus ‘shedding’ through their system for up to six to eight weeks later. NSW Health continues to remind the community to be vigilant for symptoms and come forward for testing. Symptoms like a runny nose or scratchy throat, cough, tiredness, fever or loss of taste or smell can all signal COVID-19. After COVID-19 testing, you must remain isolated until a negative result is received. Find your nearest COVID-19 testing clinic here: https://www.nsw.gov.au//how-to-protect-yourself-an/clinics There are more than 300 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW. Sewage testing for molecular markers of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, started in July, adding another tool in the fight against the global pandemic. There is no evidence COVID-19 is transmitted via wastewater systems.

07.01.2022 Yesterday turned out to be an interesting day. With the predicted weather conditions, we were very aware of the likelihood of fires occurring. Mid morning we were called out to a branch in the electricity wires in Tecoma Dr, that was smouldering. While we were there, other fires occurred at Middle Dural, and Northmead, where one house was lost. We were asked to remain at station as the weather deteriorated significantly, with very high wind gusts occurring. The wind caused ...power lines to be bought down in Pitt Town Rd, Maralya, causing a fast moving grass and bush fire. Glenorie Brigade was responded along with the multiple brigades from across The Hills District, FRNSW and out of area crews from Hornsby and Hawkesbury Districts. Multiple helicopters were also sent to assist ground crews. Fortunately there were no properties lost, although we did conduct property protection as the fire impacted on homes. Thanks to all our members who spent their Sunday at the station and on the fire ground. See more
07.01.2022 Residents across New South Wales are urged to monitor weather reports and health advice as the state is expected to experience heatwave conditions in the coming... days. The Bureau of Meteorology warns temperatures are generally expected to increase over the weekend. As the weather heats up, motorists are also reminded it’s not only an offence for children or pets to be left unattended in a vehicle, it can be deadly. Everyone needs to take care in hot weather, but some people are at higher risk of heat illness, especially if they are older, live alone or are socially-isolated. Remember to; Stay well-hydrated Avoid alcohol and hot or sugary drinks Limit your physical activity Try to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day Wear light, loose-fitting clothing made from natural fibres like cotton Regularly check your forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology on radio, TV, internet or App Get advice from your doctor about whether your medication and/or your medical conditions may affect what you should do if it gets extremely hot Make sure you know who you are going to call (who may need help, and who could provide help to you if needed); make a list of telephone numbers and make sure they are current. If you can, it's a good idea to spend some time in an air-conditioned building. For more information please refer to the Beat the Heat website: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/beattheheat Livestock and pet owners are also being urged to ensure adequate clean water is always available and that shading is provided where possible. Additionally, no animals should be left in confined, unventilated areas. Members of the public should also regularly visit the Rural Fire Service website at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au for updated bush fire warnings and information. For updated weather forecasts and warnings visit www.bom.gov.au.

04.01.2022 UPDATE - Road is now open, the branch is still in the wires and will be attended to by the power company at some stage over the afternoon. 01.01.2022 We'd like to give a big thanks Rob and his team at Glenorie Bakery. While we were on standby yesterday, at short notice, the bakery provided lunch for our crews, meaning we were well fed before we were called out again. Thanks so much for the support, and the tasty pies and pastries.
